chessgames.com: <Did you explain the difference in the Fuel numbers 1996 vs 637 in my post? Or did I missed it?> I saw it but didn't understand until now. It was a bug misreporting your Fuel. If you look again you'll see it reads correctly. Thanks for pointing that out enough times for me to get it through my skull :-)

chessgames.com: Thanks <Tab> — a few games were rejected due to low ratings but they didn't change the leaderboard. Karpos Open (2015)

offramp: I now have 62 brilliant people on my favourite list. They all appear in that tasteful teal colour. Is there no way you could make it that we could assign a colour to a favourite? Or a color to a favorite.

So I could have SallySimpson in teal but <tga> in red, for example.

Tabanus: <CG> Karpos Open (2015) edited. No wrong game results found. Five players in top-29 have 8 games: Saduakassova with an unplayed win, Kraemer with an unplayed loss, and Haznedaroglu, Koksal and De Moura (played games, lowest rating in parentheses):

1) GM Haznedaroglu vs WFM Lena Miladinovic (2190), round 2
2) WCM Duru Okuyaz (1890) vs FM Ege Koksal, round 1
3) GM Petar Drenchev vs IM De Moura (2410), round 6

Just telling you this in case they dropped out because of the rating limit (1 and 2). It may also be they were not in the original pgn.

Oct-08-17  zanzibar: <ChessGames> Do you have automatic detection filters for users who consistently invent sock puppets?

And is there a procedure for reporting suspected sock puppets?

(Note - this isn't an issue of flagging one offending post. Each individual post may fit within the guidelines - but the consistent invention of sock puppets doesn't).

Also, is there any transparency to the process?

I would like to know if certain suspicions are valid or not. A reasonable, and apropos, concern in this current climate of cyper-hacking.

chessgames.com: <zanzibar> When an admin clicks on a member's name, in addition to being able to see the IP address, devices used, etc., it also shows a report of other accounts likely to be the same person (if it detects any such thing.) As an easy example, if there are other accounts from the same IP they would show up, and obviously other accounts that use the same email. It gets more sophisticated than that but I don't want the sock-puppeteers to know all our tricks.

As for reporting it, if you think it's necessary do so by email to chess@chessgames.com.

Note that simply having two accounts is not a violation of the rules. The worst things that one might do are cheat at one of the contests like the Chess Bookie, or skirt a probation. Just having a joke account like <N0B0DY> isn't an infraction.

<Also, is there any transparency to the process?> We don't have a firm policy on the subject but historically we've never been very open about what we discover. For instance if we find that users A and user B are really the same person, we might insist that they put an end to it, but that happens behind the scenes. I don't come here to announce that user A and user B have been discovered to be the same. This is partially because it's almost impossible to be 100% certain, and it also falls in line with our normal policy of keeping infractions confidential.

So anyhow, if you want to email me your suspicions I'll look into it, but even if you're right, don't expect me to say anything. You might however be able to draw conclusions if suddenly one of your accounts of interest fall into disuse.

is a recently finished Swiss with 12 GMs and 10 IM's. The pgn (bottom of page) this time as well with unknown quality.

Oct-09-17  zanzibar: <chessgames> thanks for the reply.

I was a little curious, partially because I know you occasionally ban (or threaten to ban) certain posters - so it's natural to wonder about your counter-measures.

Obviously, I'm not worried about <NOBODY>, but rather <SOMEBODY>.

Still, while I appreciate your reply, I'll just take my own usual counter-measures. EZ enough to do.

After all, it's just a little problem for me, though I somehow suspect a big problem for you - ha!

Cheers.

  kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com

I noticed the pronunciation player on various player pages is still based on Flash, as it asked for an install for this. Flash is on it's way out because of security issues I believe. There are alternative players that you may consider using :

https://www.shoutmeloud.com/best-ht...

I think it would be good to migrate away from Flash and use an HTML 5 one instead.

Cheers, K

Judge a favorite by the content of their character, not the color of their favorite label.

chessgames.com: K-Crusher: <I think it would be good to migrate away from Flash and use an HTML 5 one instead.> You're absolutely right. Incidentally, on mobile devices that absolutely cannot have Flash, the feature appears just as a small link directly to the mp3.

Each one has a link that says something like <[x] terminate this analysis>. Just click on the errant ones and they'll go away, leaving you with 4 slots left.

Oct-10-17  caracas1970: Thanks for help, it works

Red brings out my eyes, of course ;)

Of course! The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Look, I am not making this up, just because of the exchange between you and <offramp> - I have thought the same about it as he has! It would be nice to assign different colors to different favorite posters.

But I am so used to disappointment in life that I never bothered to ask.

Oct-11-17  zanzibar: <CG> looking up a player I found the following entry for <Notable Games>:

<🏆 12th Teplice Open>

Could somebody remind exactly what 🏆 is used for(*), and why a tournament shows up in place of an actual game.

Is this a new thing? From when?

(*) I thought this was a toggle for leaderboard/player listing.

  chessgames.com: I don't believe you found that in Notable Games, it's in <Recent Games> where you see a 🏆.

We decided to make the Recent Games section also make mention of the most recent tournament they played in. The trophy symbol in that context simply denotes that a tournament is being referred to (the individual games follow below it). This way, if you want to see how a player is doing in a recent event, just click the event-link at the top of the Recent Games list.

Oct-12-17  zanzibar: Yes, <CG>, my mistake, but still <Recent Games> is about individual games, and not tournaments.

Not sure if I agree with the philosophy of mixing, my natural preference would be to add a <Recent Tournaments> section.

Oct-12-17  AylerKupp: <Annie K.> I would like it also. There are several users whose username I would like to see in white on a white background. :-)

  WannaBe: <chessgames.com>

I must be doing something wrong, which is definitely possible...

<erony> made a comment, that White missed a winning move on 50.??? in this game:

Xie Jun vs Hort, 1995

I selected Computer Move Analysis, put in <50.> in the box, selected 4, clicked on "Request Analysis", and got an error message box:

<PGN DID NOT PARSE PROPERLY I COULD NOT PARSE: [
50b - .
]
TRY = 50.
FEN =
EN PASSANT = >

Then I went over to the laboratory page, and entered the FEN of position 50.??? selected 4 for my Fuel, and selected "Request Analysis".

After a minute, it was still going... So I stopped the analysis.

Finally I used (3) Move Analysis option and pasted the PGN, and it went through...

Also, Option (1) Position Analysis the grey words in the FEN box can be improved. "Paste FEN here and push the ANALYSIS button."

"Paste FEN here, and click the REQUEST ANALYSIS button below." would be better wording.
