Aug-11-18  Tiggler: Well I am certainly not worried: I do my best work when hammered.
Aug-12-18  Caissanist: I have no idea how much <Sargon> plays chess but I imagine that, if he wants to comment here in anything but a strictly administrative capacity, he will do that under a separate, totally anonymous account. That's what Daniel did, and in hindsight it seems that he got a lot more respect that way than he would have if most posters here had known he was <Sneaky>.
Aug-12-18  Caissanist: To <Sargon> or any other admins: although I applaud your efforts to keep this site going under difficult circumstances, given the current uncertainty I do not feel comfortable providing you guys with a credit card number. Please post a followup when you can provide some assurances in that regard, and I will be happy to renew my premium membership.
Aug-12-18  Big Pawn: I would never give my credit card number to this site now, not with the fascist libtards trying to take control and ban me. I would trust those lowlife people with a turd, let alone my cc number. The one on file here is out of date, so I'm not worried about that.

Daniel proved he was a trustworthy person, and no one has doubted that, but with people like <Zanzibar> and <CHC> and <Winston> trying to claw their way behind the curtain, there's no way I'm giving up any credit card info.

Another one looking for sympathy, fishing for everyone to say, <Twinlark, I hope you're not going to go!>

heh heh

He isn't going anywhere. Just watch.

(libs lol)

Aug-12-18  morfishine: Any idea when the chessgames email inbox will be monitored? Thnx, morf
Aug-12-18  zanzibar: <twinlark> another crushing lost, argh!

Sorry to see you go, a pillar of the community. And a tremendously humble contributor (tremendously humble, and tremendously prolific in contributions).

Best of luck to you - though I hope you change your mind down the line.

OK, bye!

Aug-12-18  zanzibar: <morfishine> good question.

<Sargon>, no matter how pressing his other obligations - should start posting updates on some kind of schedule here.

Even if only to perfunctorily say there's nothing new to report.

It's an important, and sensible, recommendation.

Annie K.: The Kibitzing Search has always been one of the first features to be refused when the site is under load.

Daniel used to fight off DDOS attacks on a daily basis. Archiving efforts may be taking their toll too. Nothing that actually damages the site, just temporary access problems.

BTW - AFAIK Chessgames has never, ever, stored CC numbers. They were used and deleted. <Sargon> has recently been working on a setup for a recurring payments option, but that isn't in effect yet, and even that wasn't supposed to store CC information.

Keeping up with happenings here at this time is a nerve-wracking experience - it's not a surprise that people feel they need to stay away for their own peace of mind. It also won't be a surprise when they come back later. Hotel California. :)

Hi <Annie>

Do you happen to know why cg.com would receive DDOS attacks daily?

Seems odd to target a chess website...

Aug-12-18  zanzibar: It's a little like being in the internet version of <Lord of the Flies>.

I actually think there could be a sociological PhD inside all the drama of this saga.

Annie K.: <thegoodanarchist> Your guess is as good as mine.

But DDOS attacks are very common on most any site.

Aug-12-18  thegoodanarchist: <DWOB> posted this in <Annie K>'s forum:

<Dr Winston OBoogie: Annie...

some action needs to be taken so I'm just posting this here for you. One user has <<completely>> lost his mind and is turning this site into trash - I'm not exaggerating. People are leaving the site, I just want you to take a look at these posts.

... <something> needs to be done about this person.>

I replied that Daniel Freeman never banned <DWOB>, despite hundreds of attacks from <DWOB> directed to Daniel himself. Over the course of quite some time.

And also, <DWOB> when he was posting under different accounts, drove away a GM!

But Daniel didn't ban him! Despite his many many second chances, now <DWOB> is going to <Annie K>, trying to get people banned, for posts that are far less vile, and far less numerous, than what <DWOB> himself posted to Daniel!

<Annie K> deleted my post!!

So I am making my same point here. I want the community to know what's going on, the shameless double standard, hypocrisy and intolerance.

Annie K.: Yes. I don't want that in my forum.
Aug-12-18  thegoodanarchist: My message is to everyone at cg.com:

Try to show the same tolerance to others, that you received from Daniel!

Please stop trying to get other users banned! It will do nothing but tarnish Daniel's legacy.

  Annie K.: <thegoodanarchist: < Annie K.: <Yes. I don't want that in my forum.> But you are OK with <Mark>'s post?>>

Yep. It's my forum. Deal with it.

Aug-12-18  thegoodanarchist: < Annie K.: Yes. I don't want that in my forum.>

But for the most egregious offender in cg.com history, the one who attacked Daniel more than everyone else combined, who also chased away GM Nigel Short, it is OK for him to go to your forum to request bans on people for his own vendettas?

Could you please explain why that is OK, but my post simply reminding people of the facts, the history of <DWOB>, is not ok?

Because I honestly don't get that.

Aug-12-18  thegoodanarchist: < Annie K.:

Yep. It's my forum. Deal with it.>

I am dealing with it.

And of course I understand it's your forum.

But do you have a valid reason for suppressing the truth while entertaining personal vendettas? Other than your whim?

  Tabanus: Bot-bot.

If Hotel California will not let you in either, then perhaps <twinlark> can come back. Never say never.

Aug-12-18  zanzibar: <Annie K>, for the record, many thanks.

We all know it's a difficult time for <CG>, all around.

The truth is all over the site for all to see. Your post in my forum was not crucial evidence of it. My forum, my whim. I'm done with this subject. You can keep going on about it if you like. :)

Oh, and nobody is going to get banned <just> because another poster asks for it. That's just hysteria.
