And again, i'm really sorry, i hate turning someone's death into money issues.

Yorkshire Fog: <Tiggler> I agree that ephemera are not vital, but Sinquefield is a premier tournament featuring both World Champion and Challenger in a WCC year, and will surely need to be in a future archive. Today's news is tomorrow's history after all.

Edwin Meijer: <Yorkshire Fog> I could be wrong, but somehow i think there wont be live coverages anymore for some time, and that probably includes coverage of the upcoming world championship.

Yorkshire Fog: <Edwin Meijer> I hope you're wrong, but live coverage is less important than a proper Tournament Page, which I think can only be set up by CG Staff.

Aug-13-18  jith1207: <Edwin Meijer>: in case of site shutting down, normally the company is expected to refund the amount within a month or so. You can check the consumer forums. In case it goes 404 and you didn't get refunded, you can raise consumer complaint against chessgames LLC. I am sure there would be lot of fellow members, who can connect through Facebook groups or other channels to discuss before raising a joint complaint or legal enforcement in worst case. Good to discuss about such implications now. It might be wise to agree on a channel now with interested users and start a social media group to connect if required later?

Regarding the tournament page, there might not be a tournament page for upcoming events like Sinquefield Cup unless <Sargon> is able to get hold of that task this week. But World Championship is full three months ahead and I would expect the admins to get it right much sooner. We would be thinking too far ahead and worrying too much, if we say now that we would not have a WCC tournament page.

Edwin Meijer: <jessicafischerqueen> i missed the minus sign in your earlier post. Anyway, just losing $350 like that sounds a little absurd if you don't mind me saying. I just purchased it last october.

I hope it will. Internet won't be the same without it.

Aug-13-18  jith1207: <Edwin Meijer>: I think the esteemed users are making fun of your question in most depressing way. Federal Trade Commission might be the best place to start in case of not getting refund:

https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/featur...

There would be lot of discussion forums online where people pose a question regarding their complaints and interested people and experts might advise the best course of action. You can Google using different terms and find out suitable place. I'm sure a similar case like this would have been discussed online with fair example of precedents. One such forum is this:

http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/disc...

I'm not a social media person as well, but if there ever is a proper use of such, wouldn't it be the best place to find lost chessgames users if the site had to stop being operational? You can always create a social media account anonymously and we are here in a primitive social media forum created in the advent of internet, which evolved into different concepts like we have available in the market now.

OhioChessFan: jith, he ain't getting a refund. It's laughable-hence the jokes-to think he would.
Aug-13-18  zanzibar: <<Tiggler> This thread, for example, is a place where technical issues used to be raised but there are almost none mentioned recently.>

I wish we could talk about technical issues here again. But it might take a day or two more.

It's a coming - but till then, it's kinda absurd to suggest.

I think there's a lot of legitimate, non-technical discussion to be had.

Aug-13-18  Caissanist: I wouldn't expect technical issues to be discussed much here for a while yet. <Sargon> inherited a less-than-polished code base, and he is obviously taking some time to figure out what's going on under the hood. That's what you do when you inherit a big pile of spaghetti legacy code--you don't change anything until you can be very very sure that your new changes won't have any unexpected side effects.
Aug-13-18  zanzibar: Technical challenges...

1) Root access - it all starts here.

2) User suspensions - the hammer.

3) Live games - like <twinlark> said, it's a car horn endlessly horning.

4) PotD, GotD, PotD - as someone smartly mentioned, this could just be hacked to resynch with some old year in the past (2007?) to synch up for a good while.

Eventually, volunteers could preload selections on a weekly or monthly basis.

5) Adding new tournaments, and once again implementing a Live Game.

Of course, the major job is to right the ship - so that old and new users feel secure about renewing or joining. To repeat myself, periodic updates by the admin would go a long way in this department.

Just my 2c.

Aug-13-18  Tiggler: <But that's not the issue right now, is it.>

So what exactly is the issue, <Edwin>? To me it seems that the site is running quite smoothly, apart from a few people acting as if it is an uneasy cease fire in a Middle Eastern war zone. If that's what you think: do the obvious and scurry out trying to get some groceries while you have the chance.

Aug-13-18  zanzibar: <Tiggler> "scurry out"?!

Can't you be a bit more, er, diplomatic?
