Aug-14-18  zanzibar: I could add a few more, er, "qualifications", to <Focus>' CV!

.

Aug-14-18  TheFocus: <zanzibar> Your envy is showing.
Aug-14-18  zanzibar: <Focus> - maybe so, we'll know better after the book comes out... ha.

Anyways, you have a real <CG> page, which does make me a little envious.

Nikolai Brunni

It's maybe the better forum for info about your CV + book(s).

I know you are eager to see what I have edited. I sure am.

I am not clear on what <CV> is.

Aug-14-18  parisattack: I haven't seen a great deal of <TheFocus>' work - but I have seen enough to know it is top flight, gold standard and worth the wait.

As to it taking time to complete - as Justin Wilson said, "When it's did; it's done!"

Of course, I much enjoy your work <Zanzibar> and appreciate the effort that has gone into it. I sometimes hesitate to go to your site, knowing it will be difficult for me to leave.

Aug-14-18  zanzibar: <parisattack> thanks, that is indeed a great compliment!

Oh yeah, tell that <Brunni> guy he should also post info about his up-coming book here:

Great suggestion!

Thank you <parisattack>. I have always enjoyed our chess conversations.

Aug-14-18  TheFocus: <parisattack> <I sometimes hesitate to go to your site, knowing it will be difficult for me to leave.>

I have to agree.

<zanzibar> I know I have said mean things about your work, but looking at some of your work and your site, I have to say that you are not a third-rater.

I hope you continue to do good work for the site and especially for yourself.

Aug-14-18  JimNorCal: <focus>, CV is the word Euros use that corresponds to the American word resume (rez oo may not ree zoom)
Aug-14-18  TheFocus: <JimNorCal> Thank you, sir.
Aug-14-18  optimal play: CV = curriculum vitae

<A curriculum vitae (English: /kəˈrɪkjʊləm ˈviːtaɪ, -ˈwiːtaɪ, -ˈvaɪtiː/) (often shortened CV, resume or vita) is a written overview of a person's experience and other qualifications for a job opportunity. It is akin to a résumé in North America.>

Is this book coming out your Fischer tome?

Aug-14-18  TheFocus: <optimal play> <Is this book coming out your Fischer tome?>

No. I am mostly working on editing older classics for now - converting the Descriptive Notation into Algebraic - so none of my bios I am working on are ready yet. I am working on a series of tournament books.

The first book, though, is a reprint of a famous player's <Best Games> book.

I think a lot of people these days avoid books in Descriptive, preferring to buy only books in Algebraic.

Quite a lot of older classics are being updated so we may see quite a few coming out from different authors.

Aug-14-18  optimal play: When is your Fischer book due for release?
Aug-15-18  TheFocus: <optimal play: When is your Fischer book due for release?>

I'm really not sure. With all the other work I have going on, the bios are pushed to the back burner.

I did however release this Fischer information on Eliot Hearst's page:

<In the May 11 issue of the Mechanics Institute Library, the two tournament games played between Eliot Hearst and Bobby Fischer are presented with Hearst's annotations.>

Aug-15-18  optimal play: Why have these other works been given priority over your Fischer bio?

How long now have you been working on your Fischer bio?

Aug-15-18  TheFocus: <optimal play: Why have these other works been given priority over your Fischer bio?>

I have several bios in production, of which Fischer is one of them. I wish I could spend full-time on just bios, but finances are running short and I may have to return to work in the private sector again.

I quit work 18 months ago to write full-time and began pursuing other projects that would not take so long as a bio would.

So, until I am able to publish a bio, other works will dominate my output.

And, I never wanted to put out just one book. I wanted to wait until I had several books ready.

<How long now have you been working on your Fischer bio?>

Since the day he died.

Aug-15-18  optimal play: Good luck with your projects.

I'll take a look at your forthcoming books.

Aug-15-18  TheFocus: If there are anymore questions regarding my work, please direct them to my Player page instead:

Nikolai Brunni

This page is not the proper page for that. Let's respect the function of this page.

Tabanus: Absolutely. I should have mentioned that your works in the Tournament Index labeled "Based on an original collection by User: TheFocus" are here in CG. They are useful but rather bare. In theory, the Bistro "editors" could do more with them. But we've always been a pathetic bunch, IMO. Including myself.

Yes, quite a few entries in the TI need some major work. They are a little thread-bare.

I will make an effort to help out in that regard.

I am not an Editor, but maybe I should apply with the new owner.

Yorkshire Fog: <JimNorCal> <Zanzibar> It looks as though Zanzibar chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #30192) was wrong about the Live Game being banished from the Home Page. It seems to switch off at 1830 UTC and switch back on at 1000 UTC the next day. Also it still lives in the database as game #1926258. This is linked to as Carlsen vs Svidler, 2018 in various places around the site, including game #30 of the Biel Tournament.

offramp: Does anyone else get mixed up with JimNorCal and JohnBarleycorn?
Aug-15-18  thegoodanarchist: <offramp: Does anyone else get mixed up with JimNorCal and JohnBarleycorn?>

Not I.

"NorCal" is Northern California. So his user name makes me think of when I lived in San Jose. It was a fun time.

<JBC> is from Germany.

If I know where someone is from, or is, I just think of that geographical location when they post.

<JimNorCal> is to my left. <JBC> is to my right. :)
