Aug-21-18  thegoodanarchist: <Annie K.:

As far as the PotD goes, I kinda doubt Sargon got around to finding the emails of the volunteers that he is supposed to forward to Kevin yet, but I believe Kevin himself had also prepared selections that were not yet utilized. So there should be a batch to start with that Sargon could get easily (he knows how to contact Kevin).>

Who is Kevin? Is he going to help <Sargon> maintain the site?

Does he have a forum for bug reports or is he monitoring this forum?

<We don't talk about the Player of the Day... ;s>

Is this humor, like <Fight Club>? Or is the POTD script hopelessly messed up?

Aug-21-18  thegoodanarchist: < nok: Nobody cares for xxx of the day, except for the puzzle>

I think <Game> of the day is popular too. I see lots of comments IF we get a good game. If we get an obscure game between weaker players just for the sake of having a bad pun, then you are right - people don't like that.

offramp: <Big Pawn: Looking at the list of members who have kibitzed the most, I see that <Saffuna>, formerly <Jim Bartle> has kibitze over 77,000 times!!>

And a few of those posts have been about chess, so I guess he/she knows how to play the game.

I'm not complaining about anything. On the contrary. I think a special place for the kibitzer with the most kibitzes should be created on the homepage.

Or at least some kind of annual award should be announced with pomp and circumstance.

77,000 posts!!!

That's an amazing post count!!!

saffuna: You certainly have complained many times that I and the other liberals don't respond to you. Shall we check how many times you have written "crickets" or "scalded dog"?

You want to have it both ways.

Aug-21-18  Big Pawn: <saffuna: You certainly have complained many times that I and the other liberals don't respond to you.>

Not because of your post count! I make note of your failure to respond when I present evidence during a debate and you suddenly go quiet.

But seriously, <Jim>, all politics aside, 77,000 posts (!!!) ought to be noticed. That dwarfs everyone else.

77,000!!!

See? You want to have it both ways. Your typical style.

Annie K.: Kevin has been in charge of selecting the PotDs for Daniel. He sent his selections to Daniel, who would make the final decisions and upload them. He has a CG account, but is not a regular member.

As for the Players of the Day, seriously, most of the time they are selected based on their birthdays. Exceptions are special occasions such as Valentine's Day and the holidays.

The Openings and Quotes are, I think, on fully automated cycles, but Sargon should check anyway, just to be sure.

Aug-21-18  zanzibar: <<Annie K> Exceptions are special occasions such as Valentine's Day and the holidays.>

Or, importantly, the recently deceased.

  Annie K.: Yes, indeed.
Aug-21-18  jith1207: <Nok>: speak for yourself, when you say puzzles are the only biggest use of daily features. Opening explorer and GOTD are very useful and helpful here, though weeks without quote of the day might not be too bad. You see more comments on puzzles games, because... Eh... People comment on their results and variations to the puzzle? It's not hard to see why that gets more noticeable, but admins would know which features are most used in daily basis. I agree getting up the tournament page for current events is a priority, but the daily features on home page may help a lot of beginners and players as they prefer, and them being broken would give the site a bad look instantly.
Aug-21-18  morfishine: I would like to gift a member with a premium membership. How do I do that?

And it is W-A-N-N-A-B-E

Much thanks in advance.

Aug-21-18  morfishine: But <TD> since you are already an esteemed and highly respected premium member, you are also able to sustain your membership, unlike other losers or gnats or net-trolls on this site

Annie K.: Yeah, nothing says "site in big trouble" like a broken homepage. Even if absolutely nobody used any of the daily features, this point alone would still make ensuring they don't run out the #1 priority.

<morfishine> this may work: Gift Membership Page

Aug-21-18  JimNorCal: Annie (or anyone), does anyone follow stats for CG access. Are people beginning to slip away?

I notice that Kibitz comments seem to take longer before they slide down and page out .... which could be because fewer comments which in turn could indicate fewer visits

Aug-21-18  zanzibar: Can somebody tell me when chessgames.com was first registered as a domain name?

I have sources saying 1998-07-01, but is that 100% accurate?

.

Aug-21-18  zanzibar: Does anybody know if Alberto Artidiello ever had an account, or if he ever commented on <CG>?

What year did he sell off his interest?

.

Aug-21-18  JimNorCal: Thanks <WannaBe>! I had a feeling you would know :)

This page is also chockful of interesting info details.

Chessgames.com Estimated Traffic
Daily Unique Visitors: 123,752
Monthly Unique Visitors: 3,766,621
Yearly Unique Visitors: 45,169,480

Aug-21-18  JimNorCal: All the more interesting Alexa stats require a paid subscription LOL.

Looks like CG has dipped a bit lately compared to other sites of similar rank. But that doesn't tell you if we dipped or they gained. And the display does not display any comparisons of CG with itself.
