| Oct-14-09 | | Hesam7: <CG.com> you might want to contact the people who run www.kramnik.com they have a nice picture for this game: Tal vs Sveshnikov, 1988. |

| Oct-14-09 | | Benzol: <chessgames> I'm fairly sure that in the last lot of game submissions I uploaded a correspondence game between O'Kelly and Ahlbach played in 1938. Since it doesn't seem to have appeared can you tell me what happened to it? |
|
| Oct-14-09 | | whiteshark: <chessgames.com> Did I miss the announcement who will play <The World> the next time and when the game will start? |

 | | chessgames.com: <Benzol> We'll take a look for it and let you know. There is a "known bug" that has to do with uploading a game at the precise instant an admin is processing your last batch--I hope that didn't bite us in this case. More likely there were run-of-the-mill rejections due to some nit-picky technical detail. A report will follow. <whiteshark> Sorry, we haven't made an announcement yet. We are actively finding the next challenger. We'd love to introduce a name you know from the OTB tournaments--somebody like Ivanchuk, Leko, et al, but it's hard to get these players to commit to games that can last so long, due to their very frenetic schedules. The next Chessgames Challenge may very well be a rematch between an opponent you've already played, and there's nothing wrong with that. |

 | | Stonehenge: <CG> Thanks, here's another one: Adams vs A J Whiteley, 1981
So it should read: games played 1984-2009. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Stonehenge> Thanks very much, and you are 100% correct -- but we have to ask you to please use the Error Correction Form unless the error is some sort of an emergency. (By "emergency" we mean, for example, if the player of the day had mistake, or the game of the day, so correcting the problem would actually be a time-sensitive matter.) We do appreciate your help, and GM Adams deserves a perfectly accurate page, but if we too eagerly accept corrections on this forum it ends up turning into a endless litany of minor database mistakes. Thanks for understanding! |

| Oct-15-09 | | apple pi: I was going to purchase premium membership, but the payment page was flagged by my security (Trend Micro) for having "invalid or outdated security certificate." Having a pathetically low knowledge of computers, I don't know what this means. Could you give an explaination? I want to make especially sure that the transaction is free of risk. |
|
| Oct-15-09 | | zanshin: <apple pi> When a website is receiving confidential information (such as financial data), it is helpful to have a security certificate. There are different levels of certification. The basic levels allow you to transmit secure data using secure protocols (the 's' in 'https' means secure). Higher levels verify the identity of the website. The company issuing the certificate is basically testifying publicly that you are who you say you are, and/or that your financial information is safe. The highest levels of security offer insurance in case you lose money to a company it has verified as secure. There are many companies that offer security certificates. The best known would include Verisign and Thawte. Security certificates expire after certain periods. The warning you got indicates that <CG>'s security certificate needs to be renewed. |

 | | chessgames.com: <apple pi> We actually knew that we were scheduled to pay the renewal of our secure certificate but we were told that the deadline was October 19th. Of course we have every intention to pay the fee, but why you would get this message several days in advance is a mystery to us. It's actually possible that the clock in your computer is a few days off. That would explain the symptoms of this weird anomaly. In any case rest assured that our SSL (https://...) connection is just as secure today as it was yesterday. |

|
| Oct-16-09 | | zanshin: I guess I should have added that as in <CG>'s case, I know from first hand experience that the invalid security warning is not always accurate. |
|
| Oct-16-09 | | whiteshark: The German <Schachbundesliga>, season 2009/2010, starts today. 273 players from 34 countries play for 16 teams in the highest German chess league. There will be a live-coverage of all games. Main page: http://www.schachbundesliga.de/

| Oct-19-09 | | whatthefat: <chessgames.com>
I'm not sure how this would go down with everyone, but have you considered offering a challenge directly to Rybka designer Vasik Rajlich? It's possible that the Rybka team would be interested in testing the latest version of Rybka on a high speed cluster against the World Team. The match could be marketed as: can you beat the world's strongest computer? The only downside I can imagine is people bemoaning it as a Rybka vs. Rybka game, but it may be a perfect opportunity to belie that interpretation of all the World games. |
|
| Oct-19-09 | | zanshin: <whatthefat> That's an interesting suggestion. <The only downside I can imagine is people bemoaning it as a Rybka vs. Rybka game,> But what else is new? ;-) |

 | | chessgames.com: <offering a challenge directly to Rybka designer Vasik Rajlich> We've had that idea but I don't think we've taken it very seriously until you described it in such detail. It is an interesting suggestion that we could discuss for quite some time. However, to respect the suggestion and take it seriously, such discussions are best kept private. We do thank you for the idea. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Open Defence> That's odd -- what was the symptom? Does the button that reads <Kibitz!> work (take you to the preview page) or does the problem come later when you try to press <Post Kibitz>? |
