Feb-16-10  whiteshark: The game B Predojevic vs Ehlvest, 2010 of recent Aeroflot Open is an incomplete duplicate to B Predojevic vs Ehlvest, 2010 and should be deleted.
Feb-17-10  Caissanist: Shouldn't Vietnam's second player be listed as Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, rather than Ngoc Truongson Nguyen as he is now? Wikipedia and most other reference sites have him that way, following the Vietnamase custom of putting the family name first (as Chessgames does with Le Quang Liem).
Feb-17-10  soldal: Caissant, you're right, of course, and it's the same with some Chinese players, like Hou Yifan (Yifan Hou here). It's the source of much confusion among kibitzers (and irritation for nitpicks like myself).

However, the paradox is that those Chinese and Vietnamese who are named correctly on their player page etc, are listed wrongly in the Player Directory (Player Directory), and vice versa.

Thus, if you search for Le, you'll find him as "LIEM, Le Quang" in the directory, and Wang Hao and Wang Yue as "HAO, Wang" and "YUE, Wang" respectively. OTOH, Nguyen and Hou are correctly listed as "NGUYEN, Ngoc Truongson" and "HOU, Yifan".

So, if we're bound to let the directory understand a player's last name as his/her family name (are we?), the question is how the current mess should be sorted out.

Feb-19-10  SugarDom: CG sir, i can't seem to find the searching tips anywhere on the site, except for the single tips below the search field.
Feb-19-10  hms123: <SugarDom> Try here: chessgames.com chessforum
Feb-19-10  SugarDom: Thanks hms123

They said it was in beta mode and they are going to upgrade the search features. Have they done that?

Feb-19-10  zanshin: <Sugar> Yes, I believe the advanced search features are operational.
Feb-20-10  SugarDom: Thanks, Zanshin...

To everyone: On another matter, i have been experiencing difficulty in fully loading CG pages that sometimes i cannot kibitz for a whole day. Is it just me or are you observing the same thing?

Feb-20-10  hms123: <SugarDom> I am not having difficulty. Are you using the latest version of <Java>? if not, perhaps you should upgrade.
Feb-20-10  SugarDom: hms, it only happens on certain a time slot of the day...

From 10 am to 10 pm in my place. 0200 to 1400 hrs UTC.

I approaches those time, loading pages (this site only) gets slower and slower. Is it the traffic?

This might be a problem with your ISP. I never have problems loading the pages in the times you mentioned.

chessgames.com: A good time ago we had a time slot Chessgames site actually slowed down, and the log files proved it. It was because of back-up and maintenance software that ran at 4:00am each morning. Our Indian members were not pleased.

But that problem has been long fixed. Our newest measurements show that we are a very fast site (especially considering the large content on most of our pages) and this performance stays level all day long.

Feb-23-10  Open Defence: actually I experienced a slow site, but it was only at Bangalore (at Delhi it was fast) turns out there is a problem at my ISP in Bangalore...

chessgames.com: <1. h4: You might find this helpful, <chessgames.com>: Game Collection: Possible Future Puzzles - Proudly created and compiled by me! :)> Thanks a lot 1.h4!

<whiteshark: ceegee Is it possible to do a search for games with pawn promotion, underpromotion and multiple (under-)promotions> No, we don't have any support for promotion-based searches, sorry. Maybe one day we can assign games attributes like "multiple queens", "promotion", "underpromotion", "opposite side castling", etc., but for now you have to rely on Game Collection Search.

<Annie K.: The new graded shading on the My Favorites Page takes some getting used to, but it's a good idea.> Our assessment exactly. It's important to distinguish between people on "right now" vs. people on in the last month or even longer. Perhaps with slightly muted colors we can convey the same information; we are still playing with it.

Mar-03-10  frogbert: <chessgames.com>

feature request/wish - and conceptually a simple one too!

in any game list, it would've been immensely useful & time/click-saving if we could access the tournament page directly for those <gids> that are linked to a <tid>. at least for "static" searches like the games on a player page this shouldn't be too expensive.

Mar-04-10  whiteshark: The 11th European Individial (Men+Women) Championships will start this weekend (5-19 March 2010) in Rijeka, Croatia.
