 | | chessgames.com: <RonB52734> <A few oddments: (1) in my "history" of games that I've viewed, clicking "longer list" doesn't seem to give me a longer list.> This would be true if you have a short list to begin with. We can sign into your account and try it out for ourselves.
<I submitted a small correction to the annotations in Maroczy vs H Suechting, 1905 and I notice it has not changed. I'm just curious whether this is a matter of time, or policy?> It's a matter of time, but since you brought it up we went and corrected the typos you mentioned. <Open Defence: <cg.com> I got that weird, "Invalid Page ID" error message when I tried to kibitz a couple of times but it seems to be ok now...> That can be a result of pressing the back-page button on your browser. If you can replicate it faithfully without using the back-page button we'd love to know more about it. <<CG> Any chance of processing my last lot of game submissions any time soon?> You know we'll always get to them Benzol. Thanks as always for your contributions. <SugarDom: I'd like to complain about your admin not removing racist kibitz after we made complaints. What's with the double standards?> If by "racist kibitz" you mean the misspelling "Failipinos", we thought it over, and concluded that it could easily be a case of ignorant spelling. If we prosecuted every typo, we'd have no lime left over for anything else. On the other hand, if this individual is actually making racist remarks, surely you can come up with better examples than the solitary misspelling you cited. In that case, of course we would take action. <tpstar> <I would like to complain about two posters who continually violate the Posting Guidelines - personal attacks, racist insults, death threats, profane lyrics, "COWKAYSHUN" - who then come here to play the victim. What's with the double standards?> Of course you are free to blow the whistle, but first you may want to make sure that the people you are blowing the whistle on are not already on probation. Our probation list grew by a few members recently. Incidentally, when it comes to death threats, that is a violation of rule #4 and we take that very seriously. We don't know what post you are referring to but we implore you to point it out to us, if it isn't already deleted. |

 | | chessgames.com: <pulsar: Did <CG> tweak the site? I don't like the vertical blank white space after the scroll bar at the right side at all.> We added a Google Analytics "tracking pixel" near the top of the page. We tested it on several platforms to make sure it was invisible as advertised, but if it is distorting your page layout we'd like to find out about it. Ideally, send us a screen snap-shot and information about your browser and your operating system. If you are not savvy at screen snap-shots then just the browser/OS info will suffice. |

 | | Annie K.: Hi <cg.com> - I just updated my email address, and no problem there, but I caught a typo in your (re)activation notice: <Your account Annie K. has been activated for <kibtizing> on Chessgames.com.> And while I'm here, thanks for using another one of my puns for GOTD! :) |

However, i still don't feel so secure that we will be protected from racist remarks here as you seem to be practicing selective "blow the whistle" response. In the meantime, i will take a vacation and observe whether you are really serious in taking actions against racist kibitzers... |

| Mar-22-10 | | SugarDom: What i mean is, i don't mind if my posts get deleted as long as you are also deleting the other offending kibitzes. Please level the playing field.
Fair with no bias.
Thank you... |

| Mar-22-10 | | Open Defence: I'm pretty sure it was not because of using the back button, but its been a while back since it happened, is there anything i can collect other than a screen shot if it happens again ? |

| Mar-22-10 | | Bradah: And if you had deleted Nina Meyer's post when complained poured in, that would have been the end of it, but no, you didn't coz you may had a good laugh at it. It might have been humorous to non Filipinos but was an insult to many. Did it ever occur you you why people were complaining? |
|
| Mar-22-10 | | SugarDom: Bradah please stop now.
I have blown the whistle on nina myers.
If admins still don't take action, i will take it as a loss and resign from CG. |

 | | tpstar: <Bradah> I am thrilled that my project led to you leaving, and I would do it all again right now. You have been nothing but trouble since the day you arrived, with your "Yugo blood" insults and your "put a bullet between your eyes" posturing and your "snitches get stitches" threats and your obvious anti-"COWKAYSHUN" racism which has come to represent the entire Barangay Wesley. I am very glad you acted out on my game yesterday, because now everyone will remember who you really are. You are bad for chess, you are bad for this site, and you are bad for Wesley So. Enjoy your life as NN. |

I would not have deleted my history as I have been known to use the feature on occasion. |

 | | chessgames.com: Regarding misspellings/distortions of ethnicities which can be construed as racist slurs: We don't like them, and we don't put up with them. If somebody uses this practice, please do not repeat the slur in public, even on this forum where you cite it as an example. Just blow the whistle and we'll remove the slur, along with any posts that quote it (even those that denounce it). In the case of "Failipinos" we honestly did not notice that the poster may have intentionally created it to contain the root word "fail". To our eyes it just looked like a really shoddy spelling, and nothing more. In retrospect, we may have been wrong. If the poster in question continues such practices then they will be dealt with accordingly. If not, then there's no problem. |

| Mar-22-10 | | hms123: <CG> <RonB52734> I just tried my <History> list and I found the same thing: both the shorter and longer lists go back to 2/20/2010. I am certain that I never deleted my history of games visited. |

 | | chessgames.com: <RonB52734: [ my Game History Page ] only goes back to 2/20/10 in either mode for me. I would not have deleted my history as I have been known to use the feature on occasion.> Wait a minute -- 2/20/10 is one month ago. You do realize, the Game History feature only remembers games you saw in the last month? The logic is as follows:
1. By default, it shows the most recent 200 games, in reverse chronological order (today's games at top), up to 30 days back. 2. If "long list" is selected, show the most recent 2000 games, up to 30 days back. 3. Every day at midnight, records of games viewed more than 1 month ago are purged from the GameHistory table. (That's what enforces the 'up to 30 days back' clauses above.) In a perfect world, we would not perform step 3 at all, but instead keep these data forever. However, for technical reasons we have to keep some kind of brakes on it to conserve server resources. The GameHistory table already has half a million records as it stands. So in summary we don't see a problem here, just a misunderstanding of how the feature works. It may be that our arbitrary limit of 2000 proves to be insufficient for some members. 2000 games in a month is 67 games a day; quite a high number but not impossible. We would consider raising it to 3000 or 4000, but beyond that, we think truncating the list is more of a feature than a bug. |
|
| Mar-22-10 | | hms123: <CG> Thanks for the explanation. It's worth knowing that we should find another way to keep track of those games that we visit and find interesting. <Game Collection> would be one obvious way to do it. |
|
| Mar-22-10 | | RonB52734: Got it. Thanks for the explanation, and glad to know how it works. |

| Mar-22-10 | | frogbert: <cg.com: first you may want to make sure that the people you are blowing the whistle on are not already on probation> by observing ... nothing? (inactivity)
or is there some way of positively getting a <confirmation> that someone is on probation? puzzled. |
