| Sep-02-10 | | imag: Hi, I found a minor error on the main Chessgames Challenge page. The link on the Natalia Pogonina's photo points to www.chessgames.com/perl/challenge?gid=0000000 which is of course incorrect. |

 | | chessgames.com: Natalia Pogonina informed us that her manager, Peter Zhdanov, is closely involved in all chess related projects in which Natalia participates. Win lose or draw, Mr. Zhdanov intends on preparing a follow-up article on the match, to be posted on http://www.pogonina.com. He prefers to follow the game from the inside for the sake of reporting on it accurately after it is over. We've further been informed that Peter and Natalia use separate computers, and accidents involving one of them inadvertently signing into the other's account are impossible. Taking that into account, Mr. Zhdanov may remain a member of the World Team, in a managerial and journalistic capacity. |

 | | chessgames.com: With that out of the way, some miscellany:
<Stonehenge: Talking about photos: find the mistakes here: Manuel Golmayo De La Torriente> I give up, what are they? Daniel copied the caption from a newspaper, with some help from Google Translation. <imag: Hi, I found a minor error> Thanks--it's repaired now. <moronovich: <notyetagm> Yes,<Dark Nolan> IS Gata Kamsky> At first we were skeptical as well, but it's true. User: DarkNolan really is Gata Kamsky and we're very proud to have him join us. <rapidcitychess: Are we going to have another Battle of the Brains soon? Please?> We will have a team-game but computers will be allowed this time around. It won't start until the Pogonina match is well underway. After that one a computer-prohibited game is in order, probably Battle of the Brains IV, unless there is great interest in another Fischerandom game. <Hesam7: ...Isn't it nice to have a page for the tournament for the sake of consistency and continuity? All the past versions of the rapid match have their own page.> You're right, we'll put that online shortly. Our apologies for not covering it while it was happening. |

 | | al wazir: <CG>: So Zhdanov "prefers to follow the game from the inside"? If he is not communicating with Pogonina, then he is aware of only the white team's plans, ideas, and discussion. He doesn't know anything about what the black side is planning or thinking. So he is only following HALF the game. Why not have him follow the OTHER half instead?? |

|
| Sep-02-10 | | Open Defence: <cg.com> if you say we have to grin and bear it we probably will, but we dont like it, I for one would like to just get on with the game, but I do believe you have made the wrong decision |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | achieve: We are not dictated here to "grin and bear it" <OD>-- Many have left the team already and for well documented reason. Perhaps (pretty sure, actually) you should replace the "we" by I/me. And to close this with a general remark, I don't think we should voice our opinios and grievances spread over both the challenge page and this one. As far as <I> am concerned, the spirit and purpose of the challenge have already been damaged beyond repair. <cg> Good luck and wisdom for future decisions |

Win lose or draw, Mr. Zhdanov intends on preparing a follow-up article on the match, to be posted on http://www.pogonina.com. He prefers to follow the game from the inside for the sake of reporting on it accurately after it is over. > Yeah, it's fine that he wants to write an article about the game. But is there such great demand for this article that it can't wait until after the game is over, when he (and Natalia) can view the World comments freely? Probably, his intentions are fine. But it's not hard to imagine that comments made during the game will make it from husband to wife. Whether it happens or not is less important that the appearance that it could easily happen. This appearance does have a "putting off" effect for the World team, IMO. In fact, I don't think he is doing Natalia any favors, because if she should happen to win, his presence there will discredit her effort, even if it was honorably attained. I think both Zhdanov and cg.com should reconsider. |

| Sep-02-10 | | truefriends: I'd like to inform chessgames.com that in the NP vs WORLD-game a group of (leading) players has decided to vote 0-1 if PZ is not removed from the white team. Please do something before this game is over! |

| Sep-02-10 | | dakgootje: <<cg.com> if you say we have to grin and bear it we probably will, but we dont like it, I for one would like to just get on with the game, but I do believe you have made the wrong decision> Looks like we are grinning back instead. 0-1 currently has 25 votes, compared to 21 for c4 and we all know how hard early leads are to bend back. I'd like to play this game actually but with the current situation I'll support the protest. |

 | | tpstar: <chessgames.com> It might be helpful to have Natalia and Peter review the Arno Nickel page for his experience with both team events. When the games were completed, GM Nickel was very gracious and helpful, interacting with team members at length about their contests, and all of the group's kibitzing was unlocked for future reference. This was a very positive and instructive experience for everyone involved, in contrast to the present disagreement getting the game off to a bad start. Now is a good time to remind everyone that Natalia and Peter are members of the group and thus they are protected against personal attacks. |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | achieve: <more like bending over> how appropriate. Spineless agression is all you are left with and all you ever were and will be with. |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | Open Defence: <achieve> where is the spine in 0-1 ? |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | dakgootje: Lady, gentleman, let's all just go for a quick afternoon-walk in this cold summer and regather our thoughts. The admins will have gotten the message a lot of players are not amused, so let's use our 23 remaining hours better than fighting between ourselves. |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | achieve: <OD> Non-compliance and refusing to bend over no matter what. Btw - the details of our opinions about this unfortunate situation might be better continued, in case, at eg Dakkie's forum. We have very different back-grounds. |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | dakgootje: You are very welcome to discuss further at my forum, the 'world against pogonina'-gamepage is not the place though, and those wanting to analyse should not 'suffer' from these discussions so to speak. |

 | | chancho: With all due respect <Deffi>, this is not about spine. It's about fairness. The routine that the team has had in the past.... A successful routine at that, is being tinkered with by having the manager of the opponent right in there watching what the team is doing in terms of the moves they are contemplating, etc. Why not study those methods after the game is over? Why now, and knowing this guy is her manager?
You may be ok with that, and I respect you nonetheless, but this will only cast doubt and uncertainty in how the team reaches their consensus
(perhaps that was the idea behind Zhdanov joining the world team just like the conditions in 24 hours to make a move, etc.) |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | hms123: <chancho> <deffi> The problem with the Pogonina/PZ situation is that many of us are in professions where ethics and conflicts of interest matter. We take such things seriously, perhaps more than we should in this case--but then again, perhaps not. PZ claims to be a journalist--fine with me--but even journalists sometimes worry about conflicts of interest. The admins haven't helped by dropping him, explaining why, and then allowing him back in, and then defending that action. In retrospect, the admins allowed the Pogonina/PZ combo to change the World Game from being a "team game" to being a "vote game". IMHO, this initial mistake has led to all the protesting that we see now. |

| Sep-02-10 | | technical draw: <Talking about photos: find the mistakes here: Manuel Golmayo De La Torriente> Easy, it's a chess game and no one is smiling except the guy that looks like Salvador DalĂ. |

| Sep-02-10 | | YouRang: I can appreciate cg.com not wanting to offend guest professional players, and particularly those who, like Natalia, actively participate in the site, such as offering expert commentary during live games and now, offering to play a "world vs. pro" game. We should be grateful for professionals like this, IMO. However, maintaining <confidence of honesty> is such a vital part of any endeavor, and chess in particular. Look at the damage done in cases where cheating is suspected (toiletgate, anyone?). For that reason, I find it hard to believe that Natalia and Zhdanov would be too offended if asked to abide by cg.com's original and understandable stance that Zhdanov should not have access to the discussions of the team working to defeat his wife. The request for him to leave is not an accusation of cheating, it is simply removing the conflict of interest. As I stated earlier, his presence will only taint the outcome, and consequently this article that he plans to write will be worse than worthless. It has already caused a great deal of unnecessary turmoil on the world team with people quitting the game, people voting for protest moves, suspicions deepening, and things generally turning ugly. It would be a shame if this matter caused the game to be aborted. |

| Sep-02-10 | | rapidcitychess: Hello, would you make a Kramnik avatar soon? I'd just like one. Thanks. |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | hms123: <rapidcitychess> You can make your own avatar and send it in. That's generally how it works. <HOT TIP: If you are a premium member and you have your own graphic that you'd like to submit to our avatar library, send a 48x48 pixel GIF (non-animated) to chess@chessgames.com.> |
