 | | chessgames.com: Please do not view the presence of Peter on the World Team as a "Chessgames decision." Our only decision was whether or not to terminate the game before it began. We concluded that the proper thing to do was to leave this decision up to the Chesssgames members. If you want to abort the game, it is absolutely your right to vote for "0-1" out of protest. We intend to add a rule to our official Help Page, when this game is over, which specifically outlaws this kind of thing. The wording may be something like this: "No member of a team may live in a domicile in which there exists a computer with access to the opposing team's discussion forum. If you share residence with another Chessgames team member, please email chess@chessgames.com before registration, and we'll ensure you play on the same team." If such a rule already existed, we would certainly hold Natalia to it. However, we're not going to improvise a new rule out of thin air and enforce it ex post facto. And so we're left with the choice between a game with Peter on the World Team, or no game at all. The choice is up to the Chessgames members. Regardless of your decision, rest assured there will be more Chessgames Challenges in the future. |

| Sep-02-10 | | SugarDom: I'm not worried about Zhdanov...
Why let him spoil the fun?...
With <OD> on the World Team, we're almost invincible... C'mon let's bring it on. Let the games begin... :) |

 | | chessgames.com: <rapidcitychess: Hello, would you make a Kramnik avatar soon? I'd just like one. Thanks.> We know that not everybody is skilled at making 48x48 pixel GIFs so we'll add a few more GM avatars soon, including a few of GM Kramnik. |

| Sep-02-10 | | YouRang: <chessgames.com> If Zhdanov voluntarily offered to withdraw his name from the World team roster in order to save the situation, could you accomodate him? |

As I posted on the game page, that is the best solution. It does not appear, however, that he is inclined to do so. |

| Sep-02-10 | | whatthefat: <chessgames.com: And so we're left with the choice between a game with Peter on the World Team, or no game at all. The choice is up to the Chessgames members. > The ball is in Peter's court. If he wants a sham of a game, then so be it. You say that the only reason he is allowed to remain on the team is that you had no pre-existing rule preventing him from joining the game. But are you aware that in Natalia's previous game against a "world" team, he assisted her in the analysis? |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | twinlark: What's done is done, and I suspect ceegee feel awful already. It's up to the team whether it wants to continue. |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | rapidcitychess: BTW, when do the new avatars come? Thanks. |

 | | chessgames.com: <YouRang: If Zhdanov voluntarily offered to withdraw his name from the World team roster in order to save the situation, could you accomodate him?> Of course. In fact we do that for members all the time, e.g. when somebody signs up two accounts by accident. <whatthefat> <But are you aware that in Natalia's previous game against a "world" team, he assisted her in the analysis?> No, we were not aware of that. <rapidcitychess: BTW, when do the new avatars come? Thanks.> Give us some time please; as you can see we've got our hands quite full. |

Here is the link:
http://pogonina.com/index.php?optio... The offending comment is:
<My husband and baby (Nikolai is just 4 months old) were the ones who supported me the most. When Peter Zhdanov, who has been following the game quite closely, suggested a plan starting with 31.Rd3 and exploiting the weakness of the f7-square while marching with pawns on the queenside, I liked it. I knew that my position was better, but at this point it became clear that White will probably win this game unless something unexpected occurs. It was funny to learn after the game that leading chess engines don’t see this idea at all!> Perhaps it was not her intention to receive "family support" this time around, but the precedent raises some serious ethical questions. |

| Sep-02-10 | | e4d4: <chessgames.com> It is your reputation at stake. It is for you to take a stance, not just Natalia/Peter. |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | twinlark: <e4d4> They can't, it's up to the team whether it wants to continue the game, or not. |

 | | Annie K.: <e4d4: <<chessgames.com> It is your reputation at stake. It is for you to take a stance, not just Natalia/Peter.>> They *have* taken a stance - the best one available to them: let the team decide, and know that 0-1 is, as far as they are concerned, a very acceptable decision. Now it's up to the team to stand by them. Vote 0-1! |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | Open Defence: <chessgames.com> will you at least allow those of us who feel this is very unfair to have our names withdrawn from the team ? |
|
Sep-02-10
 | | chessgames.com: Even though this matter is basically out of our hands at this point, Daniel just wrote a heartfelt email to Natalia Pogonina to try to persuade her and Peter to change their position. As an "open letter" it is available for all to read here: Natalia Pogonina |
|
| Sep-02-10 | | Open Defence: but if this attempt fails will you allow us to at least withdraw from the game? we would not want to be associated with it under these circumstances, if we knew this before hand we would not have signed up |
|
Sep-03-10
 | | chessgames.com: <OD> I understand your concern, but let's see what happens tomorrow and then revisit that issue. A lot can happen in a day. |
|
| Sep-03-10 | | Hesam7: <CG.com> given the sensitive nature of the current vote in the world game. I would appreciate it if you guys took measures so that accounts created in the past 24 hours can not vote. My worry is that Peter (btw you should read his most recent post) would create them in order to defeat the 0-1 protest move. |
|
| Sep-03-10 | | AgentRgent: I'm skeptical that Mr. Zhdanov would resort to such actions himself (although as an "IT-specialist" he would certainly be capable of it). That said the voting does seem suspicious.. Overwhelmingly the posts are for 2. 0-1 yet the other option is getting a silent trickle of voters at strangely regular intervals. |
|
| Sep-03-10 | | SugarDom: OK...
I vote 1-0! |
|
Sep-03-10
 | | chessgames.com: We are watching the voting very carefully and will continue to pay even closer attention as 2pm draws close. Don't worry, we're pretty hard to fool at these things. Of course we look at IP addresses, but that only weeds out the rookies. For the real hackers we have much more sophisticated methods that we will not disclose publicly. |
|
| Sep-03-10 | | AgentRgent: <chessgames.com> Excellent to hear, Thank you |
|
| Sep-03-10 | | truefriends: Can this result in a recount? :-) |
