 | | kingscrusher: Chessgames.com: Thanks for taking note of the Opening traps idea. Here is another which might be of interest. The Olympiad has a tonne of games: Chess Olympiad (2010) I really would like to video annotate a few ones which members of chessgames.com have expressed particular interest already. Is it possible to introduce a "Number of Comments" column which is sortable on the Game list view of a tournament - so I can see the most commented games, and perhaps video annotate those as higher priority ?! Also maybe it would emphasise the most interesting games as well for everyone else to simply view. Okay I know some games might have irrelevant controversial arguments, but for a lot of games, it might highlight particularly interesting ones chess-content wise. |

 | | kingscrusher: Also btw, how about using possibly in the future a game grid view with sortable columns - like for example that Wiki has. So the column headings would all be clickable for ascending or descending. So you could sort games by no. of moves, etc, as well as potentially by number of comments. |

 | | chessgames.com: <I really would like to video annotate a few ones which members of chessgames.com have expressed particular interest already. Is it possible to introduce a "Number of Comments" column which is sortable> It's possible, but we'd like to point out that our new feature "Hot Games" on the homepage partially satisfies this need. The algorithm for being "hot" takes into account the number of comments posted, and also the number of views the game has received and the number of times it's been recently added to game collections. It's a good measurement of the collective interest in new games (but won't do you any good for tournaments that are long over). |

No matter what games users may choose to put in their collections, The Game of the Century will always be notable for Fischer; the Opera House game, for Morphy.> Ah, yes. And let us not forget the Immortal Game, Anderssen v. Kieseritsky |

cg.com, hello! I made the following request on 9.17.2010 and maybe it got lost in "the sea" of posts. Here it is again:
<... on Koltanowski's bio there is no mention of the fact that he was Dean of American Chess for some time.It would be nice if you could remedy that omission for the big guy, may he RIP.> Would it be possible to update the bio to reflect that he was Dean of American Chess? Sorry if I am being too pushy about it, but I really admire the guy and feel that it is deserved. |

 | | chessgames.com: <thegoodanarchist> Unless there is an egregious error we tend not to edit the biographies ourselves--but you're welcome to post requests like that here as volunteer biographers tend to read this forum frequently. <computer chess guy> Thanks a bunch; sounds like that tournament is right up your ally. |

| Oct-02-10 | | A.G. Argent: <CG> Would it be possible for you to email <thrajin>, the captain of the Chessgames.com team at Gameknot and ask him to respond here at the new forum for the team or at Gameknot? He's not been seen for over a month at GK and the team wants to continue competing but are stymied by his absence and would need to know if it's yea or nay if he's to resume as captain. |

 | | Eggman: Hi, Chessgames! I just noticed a strange mistake involving two games that I uploaded about a month ago. One game was <Gary Basanta vs Todd Southam, Canadian Junior, Two-game play-off, 1988> and the other was <Rehan Huda vs Jeff Back, Canadian Junior, 1988>. Somehow these two games got mixed up. The moves and annotation for G Basanta vs T Southam, 1988 are actually from <Rehan Huda vs Jeff Back, Canadian Junior, 1988>. Furthermore, under the Annotation Window is a button that I've never seen before that says 'Choose Game'. When I click on this, a pop-up window appears allowing me to select from two games, one entitled <1. "Gary Basanta" vs. "Todd Southam"> and the second entitled <2. "Basanta, Gary" vs. "Southam, Todd">. The first of these choices is the default, which mistakenly has the moves from <Huda vs Back> and the second choice actually has the correct moves for the <Basanta vs Southam> game. Meanwhile, there is no page for the <Huda vs Back> game. If this error somehow stemmed from my own clumsiness you certainly have my apologies. I dunno: do you want me to upload these two games again? I'd be happy to do so. |

 | | kingscrusher: Chessgames.com : Thank you for making me aware of how the "Hot games" feature works. Could it be applied locally to specific tournaments as well - so you go into the latest Tournament, and there is a "Hot games" for the tournament in question ?! That would really be brilliant if it could be possible in the future, I think. |

 | | Eggman: Please disregard my above message. I see now that this forum is not the proper avenue for me to help correct a game score. I'll create a correction slip from the relevant <Basanta vs Southam> page. Thanks. |

| Oct-04-10 | | Russian Grandmasters: Hello!
Could you please move the last two games on this Profile somewheres else? Alexander Flamberg
<Alexander Flamberg> the Polish Chessmaster died in the 1920s so he didn't play either of these games: Keene vs Flamberg, 1962
E Schiller vs Flamberg, 1970
Apologies to our own Masters <Keene> and <Schiller> if they did in fact topple the "Ghost of Flamberg" "In Flamberg's fields
The Poppies grow..." |

| Oct-05-10 | | crawfb5: I am working on a games collection of the 7th American Chess Congress held in St. Louis 1904. There are a couple of player names that need to be merged: 1) Stasch Mlotkowski and Stasch Mlotkowsky are the same player. Mlotkowsk<i> seems to be the preferred spelling in contemporary records. 2) Eugene Shrader, Eugene Wesley Shrader, and Eugen Schrader are the same player. This is probably made more confusing with Edward Schrader playing in the same event. This leads me to a broader question: when I submit missing games, is it more important to normalize names with what we already have or to use the fullest version of the name? Sources vary, and perhaps more importantly, does merging and reconciliation have to be done on a case by case basis? I'd lean toward the full name, but not if it's going to create extra work. Also, how many games in a chunk make it worthwhile to arrange to submit them as a batch? I've been on the hunt for games from the 8th American Chess Congress held in Atlantic City 1921 and have found roughly half (so far that would be 26 missing games). |
