Jan-17-11  Benzol: I've been reading some of the previous posts with some interest.

<Phony Benoni> <While I would welcome the ability to edit player and game information, I would be very wary of ever deleting a post. Having a very low tolerance for heated arguments, I would be tempted to delete posts that the vast majority of kibitzers would not find offensive. Rather than be drawn into that, I would prefer not to have the power in the first place.>

I'm with Dave on this one. Human nature being what it is I'm grateful that there is a system in place that puts a backstop between me and that kind of power. Power corrupts. Delusions of godhood are something I'd rather not be accused or be guilty of in this regard.

If you have a player page here you can ask the admins for the ability to edit it and the game/s involved. While I'm uncertain as to whether I agree with it or not there are examples on the site of people who can and have excercised this facility.

Jan-17-11  hms123: <Benzol> The issue for me is that the site is outgrowing its infra-structure. The admins can either pony up some additional funds that many not exist, continue to limp along at the risk of going into decline, or expand the set of admins in the way that Wikipedia has done. (n.b., I am sure there are other options, but I can't think of them at the moment.)

This is a social networking site for which chess serves as the entry point. After that, people get hooked into discussions of baseball, music, politics, religion, live games, individual players, and on and on.

I think we all need to recognize the social-networking aspect of the site. In particular, the admins need to reach out to some (willing) volunteers) and we (members) ought to be willing to help out in ways that we can.

I don't have all the answers, but I do think that it is good that the questions are starting to arise. I hope that all of us, members and admins alike, can start to work on this issue before the site's infrastructure collapses.

Jan-18-11  Karnatakiaditya: Hi CG,

I found today that the game viewers MyChess and Chess Viewer Deluxe are malfunctioning for me, with the last column of the move list not visible. The problem was not there till yesterday. Is this some technical glitch the site is facing or is it something unique for my computer?

Thanks!

Jan-18-11  Caissanist: <Karnatakiaditya> I'm not seeing it, from any of several different PCs. What's your browser and Java version?
Jan-18-11  AdrianP: <caissanist> <chessgames.com> Sorry, I hadn't realised that many others had also asked. And thanks, because I see the fora are now open.
Jan-18-11  KingG: There is a Kramnik-Kasparov game missing from the database that I submitted a long time ago. For some reason it hasn't been uploaded, so I was wondering if one of the admins could do it directly.

Jan-18-11  rapidcitychess: The standings on group B are incorrect.

Thanks.

Jan-19-11  Karnatakiaditya: <Caissanist> It's Mozilla Firefox, Java 6. The problem still persists.

It happened very suddenly. The problem was not there for past few months or so. Maybe there is some problem with an update or so. I need to check. Do you have anything to suggest? And thanks for asking! :)

  GrahamClayton: Hi there,

I have been uploading quite a few games from various sources over the past couple of months. None of them appear to have been added. Will you be adding them to the database in the foreseeable future?

Jan-20-11  Gryz: I noticed many players at Wijk Aan Zee don't have a picture in their profile. Maxime VL, L'Ami and Wang Hao in the A-Group. And most players in the B- and C-Group. I assume this is because most pictures on the web have copyright issues, so you can't use any of them on your website ?

I am going to visit the Wijk Aan Zee tournament tomorrow (Friday). I could bring my camera, and take pictures of players. If they are decent, you are free to use them for your player profiles.

Would that be useful ? If not, I won't bother. E.g. to make pictures I'll probably have to make sure to be there early, before the round starts. I'm happy to get up early, if it helps CG.com. :)

Jan-20-11  Caissanist: <Karnatakiaditya> are you running the latest version of Firefox (3.6.13)? If you are on Windows, do you see the same problem on Internet Explorer?

jessicafischerqueen: Here is a re-post in support of <acirce's> request that the faulty "classical/rapid/blitz" classifications be dropped- without delay- from the game pages:

<Eyal: <Grischuk has a plus record against Anand in classical games> No, he doesn't. In case you got this false information from the "special" search feature (search "Grischuk vs anand") that's supposed to separate classical from non-classical games, please stop using it - it's totally unreliable. Unfortunately, this feature was installed despite the fact that CG.com's database is in no state to support it in a credible way, so people are constantly being misled by it into quoting false statistics as facts.

It's actually 1-0 to Anand (WC 2007) with 5 draws.>

Jan-22-11  bharatiy: hi the relay of anand carlsen game is wrongly relaying nakamura smeets game.
Jan-22-11  Lennonfan: Chessgames.com
Commenting on two of <user technical draws> kibitzes is hardly stalking, and i would welcome you to check all of my previous kibitzes out as iv violated no rules as laid down by yourselves..whilst here i would like to congratulate you on this site as i learn something new everyday and will of course be tuning in for the nakamura game.. This msge will also suffice for record....thank you lennonfan
Jan-22-11  technical draw: Good <Lennonfan>. Glad to see you won't make anymore comments about me or TD. Thank you.
Jan-22-11  Lennonfan: <TD> i cannot promise that i will not comment on any games that you or <TD> kibitz on,but i can promise you that your alluding to me as a stalker is somewhat bizarre....have a word with <TD> i think he's a bit paranoid!!

Stonehenge: Tata Steel (Group C) (2011).

There are two Swiercz-Van der Werf games here.

Jan-23-11  Eyal: <CG> You have a duplicate game on the Tata Group B page - Spoelman vs Efimenko, as well as on the Group C page - D Swiercz vs M Van der Werf. Also, there are two duplicates that remained on the page of the recent Reggio Emilia tournament - F Caruana vs V Gashimov & Morozevich vs Navara.

Domdaniel: <CG> In the Opening Explorer, after the standard Gruenfeld moves 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5, one of the options available is the impossible illegal move 4.exd5 -- with a link to the game G Botterill vs Chandler, 1979

This game of course went 4.cxd5 -- it looks like a simple case of confusion between 'e' and 'c' (very easily done). But it should probably be fixed before Imaginary Novelties catch on.

Rather than [Date "1999.??.??"], I can give you the full date of that Kramnik vs Kasparov game.

They played 4 times in the event: a draw [B66] on June 29, round 2; a draw [D85] on June 30, round 5; a white win [B66] on July 1, round 8; and a draw [D36] on July 2, round 11.

This game seems to be the 2nd of these, so the date field is [Date "1999.06.30"]

Jan-25-11  benjinathan: <cg> Could I suggest a game of the day named after the retired technical draw-perhaps a fifty mover...
Jan-25-11  technical draw: Thanks <benjinathan> Since I have un-retired maybe a game with a surprise last move where the losing player suddenly wins is a good idea.

Domdaniel: There was a Bill Hartston game where nobody noticed that the 50-move and repetition rules applied, and they played on, and on ...
Jan-25-11  Eyal: <CG> There seems to be a sort of bug whereby duplicate games that have been deleted keep popping up; on the Tata Group B page, a 2nd Spoelman vs Efimenko, which I've noticed was gone for a while, is back, as well as D Swiercz vs M Van der Werf on the Group C page. And there's a new duplicate on the Group B page - W Spoelman vs W So. I think the same thing with duplicates that keep popping up happened on the page of recent Reggio Emilia tournament - where, as I've already mentioned, two duplicates still exist.
