chessgames.com: <naruto00122> I know exactly what you mean, but I'm not sure if there is much that can be done about that. Once you click inside a Java region like the game viewer, your normal browser controls are disabled, at least on most browsers I think that is normal.

The way around this: click on the titlebar of the page, or the white space to the left or the right of the game, or anything except for the Java program itself. Then browser controls will work again.

Even if the programmer decided to not use ctrl-F for board flipping, I don't think it would help. For example ctrl-R (reload page) doesn't do anything at all within Chess Viewer Deluxe, but if I try to use ctrl-R while I am reviewing a game it still won't reload the page. I have to click on the white space next to the game, then ctrl-R works again.

Sorry, I wish I could think of a more useful solution. Perhaps Nikolay will have an opinion on it.

chessgames.com: <Stonehenge> Glad to see you back.

You'll be happy to know that the biography data have been improved. We cleaned up two all-too-common cases: people with a nationality equal to their country of origin, and people without a country of origin. Even more importantly, putting such screwy data into the biographies is now impossible, as it trips an error message.

Before you left you said something about players who had "dyslexic birthdates"--to me it looked like a confusion between European and American date formats. What I wanted to ask you is to give me 2 or 3 players (or player IDs) who had mixed up birthdates. You gave me some examples before but they were inconclusive; the records had been edited by too many people. I don't want to embarass anybody, but I do want to know which editor has dyslexia.

chessgames.com: <Benzol> <What on Earth is going on here?> I don't think there is a succinct answer to that question; as others weigh in on this topic we are learning ourselves.

Likewise, <JFQ> we don't have a comment on the subject right now (if you were even looking for one), but in any case your points are well taken.

jessicafischerqueen: <Chessgames> I appreciate that very much. I'd just like to add- in my case, I was grateful that you gave me so many chances to learn how to post acceptably at this website.

In your dealings with me, two things stand out-

You contacted me privately by email, not airing any "dirty laundry" in public at the site. I really appreciated this.

You acted very promptly with probation in my case- and that was not lost on me.

I understand you want to give people time to learn what is and is not acceptable in terms of posting behavior- and I do appreciate that you don't run your site like the fascist administration at <chess.com> where they just delete and ban at the drop of a hat.

It just seems to me that when one member causes so much disruption and discord in such a short amount of time, upsetting scores of other members, that it's not that difficult to recognize who is really causing that problem.

A suggestion- if you had used the same method with <lennon fan> that you did with me, most or all of this current disruption could have been avoided.

With me, you put me on probation privately and without warning- the onus was then on me to contact you by email and ask why, and then to understand and accept your rationale- which you always promptly emailed back to me.

Seems to me that's a preferable method to handle such matters.

Best regards,
JFQ

Apr-11-11  TheFocus: I would like to say that on <CG> every day there are hundreds or thousands of posts. It is not the Admins job to read every post. Nor would they be able to.

One problem is that once these so-called flame wars start, many people would rather watch in entertainment and not complain about it. Some do, and at that time Admin should then step in and smack the arguers down.

I have been involved in flame wars and am as much to blame as anyone.

Since then, I see how useful IGNORE can be.

But in these arguments, EGOS are involved. That is one of the main problems.

I think Admin is doing a better job, but once attention is brought to them, action should be taken. These arguments cause a decline in enjoyment across the site. I apologize for my part in them.

Apr-11-11  chesssantosh: well <chessgames.com> i already had posted my problem that i could not kibitz on certain game which u gave a quick solution.now i discoverd another problem that i am not able to jump directly into the page bu entering page no.when i try to enter the no. it simply does not accept..i mean nothing is displayed on that no.box,,,so if i have to go to first page of kibitizing of 50 pages what i have to do is to click 50 times earlier kibitizing...u can guess how annoying it is.i m looking for a kind help of yours as u did last time as well.thanks in advance!!!

Stonehenge: <CG> Here's one example: Machado

Kibitz: <Hermes Amilcar Machado da Gama FM from Rio de Janeiro (born January 21st 1962) scored +2=2-2 in Thessaloniki Ol 1988, playing for Brazil in 6th board>

And what does the bio say:

(born Sep-21-1962) Brazil
FM Hermes Amilcar Machado was born in Rio de Janeiro.

The games are indeed by Hermes Amilcar Machado btw.

Apr-12-11  bartonlaos: <JFQ- I had him on ignore, and still do, so I don't even know if he was attacking me. I don't care if he was.>

He ridiculed you in this forum on Mar 22. Hard to know how to interpret the guidelines when such attacks on Premium Members are condoned by the Admins in their own House, lol!

Apr-12-11  achieve: Exactly the point. Condoned? Surely not. Any alternative attack should have almost immediately resulted in a probation and ban, as jess dissed up from a distant past. I'll praise the day that the admins realize and address their hypocrisy/easy go lucky attitude on this matter.

I agree with sugerdom that pretty much every site suffers from this, but goodness me there are so many things that can be done, and needed, as JFQ invkokes and remembers from own experience: "Stay on the ball"

Might I recall that at the time JFQ was under severe scrutiny because of some high profile whistle blowing `member` she was targeted by specifically=

Best of luck . I´m out of this typical ´let down´

My system can´t handle this optimally. Sufficiently.

tpstar: Speaking for the silent majority, let's remind everybody that thousands of people visit this site every day and the overwhelming 99% don't cause any trouble. It is this handful of rulebreaking troublemakers who deem themselves above the Posting Guidelines that are to blame. One user believes being a Life Master lets him break the rules. One user believes being a historian and a writer lets him break the rules. One user believes dying of Pancreatic Cancer and then rising from the dead lets him break the rules. One user believes his personal association with Team Carlsen lets him break the rules. One user believes his relationship with Wesley So lets him break the rules, and break the rules, and break the rules. If I ran this site those five would be gone, based on their documented history of making hundreds of personal attacks against other users - yes I said hundreds - and I wouldn't want to hear any bleating about the "value" of their "contributions" either. Notice I got my points across without making personal attacks myself. That's the trick, isn't it.

If I read one more hysterical comment about this site being in "decline" then I will barf all over the place. Everybody just settle down. Thank you.

But people will never agree just who that handful of rulebreaking troublemakers consists of. :)

<tpstar>, if in charge of this site, would ban a number of people. A number of people, if in charge of this site, would ban <tpstar>. Another number of people, if in charge of this site, might ban me, or almost any sufficiently active kibitzer.

Most of those people, if they dug enough, would find entirely valid reasons for it, within current ChessGames.com guidelines.

Apr-12-11  TheFocus: Well, this historian has only argued with <Lennonfan> and <shach matov>.

I have had no history of arguing before that... only that few weeks worth. Nor do I have a history of insulting other users, so... your rebuke means nothing to me. If anything, I am usually trying to keep the peace.

And I think my contributions (good) outweigh my arguing (bad).

And you can't seriously think they are the only five? Or don't you find the ones arguing with them to also be as guilty?

Selective prejudice in action.

Apr-12-11  hms123: As <OhioChessFan> wisely said recently, <someone has to stop first>. All you wise folks would do well to heed that advice.
Apr-12-11  bartonlaos: <tpstar - "One user believes being a medical doctor allows him to shamelessly bait the <Wesley So> thread, even while Wes is actively kibitzing on it for support during a tournament.">
Apr-12-11  SugarDom: :) hey <bartonlaos>, you're looking handsome today...
Apr-13-11  LIFE Master AJ: Now that you guys are back from vacation, perhaps you would not mind answering a question I posted earlier.

Several of my games were deleted, most notably a violent struggle against Tillis. (2100+) He does not seem so weak ... the game was not perfect ... for the life of me, I cannot figure out why this game was deleted.

Apr-13-11  LIFE Master AJ: <tpstar>
A.) I guess you must be perfect.
B.) I am truly grateful you are not running anything around here ...
Apr-13-11  LIFE Master AJ: <tp> I also noted that you have never said a word when (many) others bashed me - I must take it that you 100% approve of such behavior. (As long as these vitriolic attacks are only aimed at yours truly.)

WannaBe: Wow... I guess 'Silent Bob' will speak now.

1. Hurray for <tpstar>, and <OhioChessFan>. Grow up, everyone that is causing the latest, probably not the last, friction, all JUST GROW THE F UP! What are you, kids in junior high bickering? Hay-juz H. Kreeyst!

2. Just because someone is silent, does not mean they approve/disapprove of the actions. You can't use that argument for either sides.

3. I absolutely enjoy this site, I expect 'spirited' discussion and 'spirited' disagreements. (See Dodgers-Giants rivalry and fan assault in parking lot...)

4. I am not leaving this site, I don't have anyone on ignore, but I 'ignore' certain topics and members, premium or not. I do not discriminate, I hate you all, equally.

Plus, I am adult enough to recognize others who are not, and choose, or have chosen to 'ignore' them.

5. There is no number 5.

6. If I ran this site, the first person I'd kick off would be <technical draw> he's won funniest kibitz'n awards that should have been mine, with my material!!

7. I should have made that left turn at Alburquerque, and ended up at Tic-tac-toe-games.com instead.

Apr-13-11  Everyone: ©®™

<chessgames.com> how long are you going to tolerate that <WannaBe> call my names by violatin guildlines 1+3?

Or isn't <Grow up, everyone that is causing the latest, probably not the last, friction, all JUST GROW THE F UP!> applicable to it?

Thus you should hurry to install guidline 5:

<Thou shalt not call of <Everyone>>

Thanks in advance
<Everyone>©®™

ps: <everyone else> is imo an inappropriate username!

Apr-13-11  everyone else: Hey! We heard that. Why can't we have a copyright and trademark sign too?
Apr-13-11  myschkin: . . .

"Sorry, no games.
You may wish to visit the home page and try a different search."

Have you planned to place a searchbox (simple textfield) right at the above page at least? The HP's loading time + roundabout route seems a bit long-winded to me.

Apr-13-11  technical draw: <If I ran this site, the first person I'd kick off would be <technical draw> he's won funniest kibitz'n awards that should have been mine, with my material!!>

Spreading lies about me, defaming me and misspelling, <GuanoBe> should definitely be expelled, chastised and fined $20.
