 | | Annie K.: <cg.com> I agree, it would be a very useful feature to be able to search for keywords within a specific page only - I've often wished for that. Any chance? :) |

| Jun-09-11 | | YouRang: Note: The Bazna Kings 2011 tournament begins in 2 days. Can we have a page for that soon? Thanks. |

 | | chessgames.com: <DrNyet: Is there a way to search for a term in the kibitzing for a particular game?> No, but there should be.
We've considered that for a long time: it should be possible to enter a search term and then find messages that contain it if they are part of the discussion thread e.g. the player, game, tournament, chessforum, kibitzer's cafe, or whatever page you happen to be on. It's not that difficult of a request, and thanks for bringing it up again. Seriously. |

 | | chessgames.com: Not only do we have a Bazna King's Tournament (2011) discussion forum but we'll be covering the games live starting tomorrow. We will use our tried and true method of covering the top board, but at the same time we know that Magnus hasn't played in months, so we have every intention of shamelessly bending the rules in Carlsen's favor if necessary. :) The pairings just took place and I'm delighted to report we have Carlsen-Nakamura to look forward to tomorrow morning at 8:30am server time. Hope to see you then! |

 | | Stonehenge: Spot the mistake:
<Quote of the Day> I was sort of jumping up and down around the room. I was so happy. Winning a tournament is always nice but winning an elite tournament like this is something completely different. I cannot remember the last time an American won a major tournament. --- Nakamura (on winning Tata Steel '10) |

| Jun-12-11 | | shivasuri4: It should be Tata Steel 2011 at the end.
<chessgames.com>,today's puzzle was a mild disappointment. That Anand-Lautier game is extremely popular and almost all Anand fans here would have seen it before and hence would not need to 'solve' it.Maybe you could remove the names of the players on the homepage for such popular games. Can a non-premium member search for only classical games between two players?Thank You. |

 | | chessgames.com: <It should be Tata Steel 2011 at the end.> Oh of course, sorry about that. <<chessgames.com>,today's puzzle was a mild disappointment. That Anand-Lautier game is extremely popular ... maybe you could remove the names of the players on the homepage for such popular games.> We know that is a factor, but we run positions from famous games anyhow. We don't consider it "cheating" if you know the game and get it right. If you know enough games, and frequently solve weekend puzzles from memory, you are in every way a strong player. <Can a non-premium member search for only classical games between two players?> Not really, but you can easily search for games between two players then click on the ones which seem to be classical. |
|
| Jun-13-11 | | shivasuri4: Not only that , the concerned game was also GOTD just over 45 days ago.I suggest you develop a mechanism to prevent POTDs from becoming GOTDs (or vice-versa) within a span of,say, six months or so.So even non-Anand fans would have it in their (relatively) recent memory. |

| Jun-13-11 | | ahmadov: I am really looking forward to seeing some improvement in the rating system of the Guess the Move feature... One cannot have 3 points for guessing a very difficult GM-level move and a forced move... Maybe it is more expedient to apply a 5-point evaluation system for this feature? |

 | | Stonehenge: Here's a game with very high internet ratings. I think that can be a bit misleading. T Balogh vs D Christen, 2003 |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com
Have you thought of adding this silverlight game viewing option: http://www.bennedik.de/Silverboard....
The advantage I see it has, is that it seems to work with the Chrome Browser zoom facility. This has big advantages for me if I can get a bigger board for videos from Chessgames.com. But also maybe members might appreciate this Browser zoom friendliness. The guy that wrote this is the same person who wrote the ICCF correspondence server - quite a clever ASP.net guru. |

 | | chessgames.com: <kingscrusher> Perhaps it's no coincidence we were just on that very site looking at the demos. The viewer looks and works fabulously; the only thing on our "wish list" would be the ability to manipulate the pieces. So yes, we definitely plan on investing the few dollars they are asking to get the rights to use it on Chessgames. |

| Jun-14-11 | | geneven: I am in Froyo 2.2 in Android and no matter how I try I can't change the type of chessboard I use when I am viewing games. I seen a relatively unadorned type of board and cannot flip it. Even if I change the type of board to blank text or JavaScript, it doesn't change. Flippping is flipping important to me. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I am new to complaining here. |

| Jun-14-11 | | geneven: I am posting a comment again to make sure it displays. I am new to this kind of posting here on my android tablet. I cannot change the kind of board that displays. . For example I cannot change to blank text or Misty Beach or anything. Not that I want to change board display particularly. I just want to flip the board. I am in froyo 2.2. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <geneven> As of now, that's the only viewer our admins have Android support for, sorry. In the meantime, I think clicking the square d7 flips the board. |

| Jun-14-11 | | hms123: <chessgames.com>
<<iPad users> If you have an iPad and connect to any game page (the Game of the Day, games from search results, etc.) it will automatically invoke a javascript program to allow you to step through the game. You'll notice a button in the middle which has a plus (+) on it, that's the autoplay controller--press it to flip through the game in hands free mode, at the rate of 2.5 seconds per move. Press it again to turn off autoplay. There are many other features but the documentation probably won't be available until we leave beta-test mode.> Is there any documentation anywhere on the beta version? |

 | | chessgames.com: Hi <geneven>, we are sorry we don't have better support for the Android (and iPad/iPhone) platforms, but it's relatively new to us and we're still figuring it out ourselves. The situation is this: that for desktop computers you have a choice of 6 PGN viewers, most notably "Chess Viewer Deluxe", but for mobile platforms like the Android or iPhone you are forced to use the more limited "pgn4web" (it will switch to that viewer automatically for you). The way that pgn4web works is certain "hot squares" have special functions and you pretty much have to memorize what they do. The only two I can ever remember are these two: <a8=help> To get the official help site for pgn4web, you click on a8, and it takes you here http://pgn4web.casaschi.net/home.html. Sadly that site is written more for programmers than end users, I can't even locate a concise list of what the "hot squares" do. <d7=flip> To flip the board, you click on d7. We do not offer a facility to change the pieces for either pgn4web or any of the other viewers, sorry. We do however allow you to change the colors by visiting your Chessgames Preferences Page and picking a color scheme to your liking. Your message was posted to the right place, and we thank you for your support. |

 | | chessgames.com: <hms> <Is there any documentation anywhere on the beta version?> Sorry, not yet. We may even decide change/disable some of the "hot squares" so we don't want to start making such a doc quite yet. |

| Jun-14-11 | | hms123: <chessgames.com> thanks for the hint to <geneven>. I found this by hitting the <g8> square on a game on my iPad: http://www.chessgames.com/pgn4web/h... It lists shortcut squares for the iPad. Here are some of them that I thought would be useful to someone: A1 game start
C1 move six half-moves backward
F1 move six half-moves forward
A7 toggle to show comments in game text
B7 toggle to show comments on separate lines in game text D7 flip board
E7 show white on bottom H7 toggle enabling shortcut keys A8 go to the pgn4web website
E8 search help
F8 shortcut keys help
G8 shortcut squares help
H8 pgn4web help
<C1> and <F1> and <D7> work. <A7> and <B7> also work to show the comments for annotated games. I haven't tried the others yet so I don't have any idea if they work as advertised. |

| Jun-14-11 | | chessmoron: <CG> Are you in the process of getting the PGN in? |
|
Jun-14-11
 | | chessgames.com: Thanks hms, we had docs on our server that we didn't even know about. Chessmoron, I believe this is what you are looking for: CG.com Masters vs. Machines Invitational (2011). It took a little work to get them to play correctly but I think we have it now. The moral there is to stick to plain-text all the way through. I understand why it is inconvenient to use things like Notepad for entering the game notes, but it's even more inconvenient sifting through the PGN in the end to fix all of the punctuation that the word processor screwed up. |
|
| Jun-14-11 | | chessmoron: <CG> CG.com Masters vs. Machines Invitational (2011) A few quips:
Stockfish vs Branko / Schiller / Wall, 2011 should be Kutztown46 / Stockfish vs Hosea / Schiller / Wall, 2011 Kutztown46 / Stockfish vs Golden Executive / Rybka, 2011 should be AylerKupp / Rybka |
|
Jun-14-11
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Hosea / Schiller / Wall vs Kutztown46 / Stockfish, 2011 is actually Hosea / Schiller / Wall vs Golden Executive / Houdini And in Kutztown46 / Stockfish vs Golden Executive / Rybka, 2011 Black was also Golden Executive / Houdini, <not> either Aylerkupp / Rybka or Golden Executive / Rybka (see kutztown46 chessforum) |
|
| Jun-14-11 | | chessmoron: <CG> I screwed up. <Switch> is right. Please change it. Thanks. |

Jun-14-11
 | | kutztown46: <chessgames.com> Those of us who participated in CG.com Masters vs. Machines Invitational (2011) have already posted a considerable amount of analysis on the games in this tournament. I estimate several dozen posts spread out over four or five forums. Now that there are pages for each of these games, that is obviously where the analyses should reside. Instead of linking to the analyses or re-posting them, if we identify which posts at which forums go to which games, would you be able and willing to copy all of the posts including diagrams and place them with the appropriate games? Thanks. |
