 | | chessgames.com: <LIFE Master AJ> <Have used the "whilstle" function dozens of times ... nothing is ever done ...> You should know that's not at all true; when we get a complaint similar to the one you showed below we take the pertinent keyword (usually a pejorative derivation of the letters A and J) and not only delete the post complained about, but any other post as well. We then add notes some users "dossiers" so that we know for sure who are repeat offenders. Due to the sheer quantity of complaints, we might not always be able to react as quickly as you hope. Remember, yours is not the only flame war burning right now. About your request to edit your own pages: As you know we've given you the same level of administrative control that we've extended to members like Maxim Dlugy and Nigel Short: the ability to edit your player page. Nobody outside of a few administrators (not even venerated grandmasters) can edit their game pages. It's nothing personal. |

 | | chessgames.com: <dakgootje: At GTM-game Tarjan vs Ljubojevic, 1969 you exit opening theory twice, first at move 4, then at move 7. I suppose in the mean time you transpose into main theory - but it is a bit odd. Not sure it was on purpose.> You are right, it wasn't on purpose. Although I wouldn't call it a bug ... let's call it an "undocumented feature." As you have surmised, GTM begins where where the theory ends, and we figure out where theory ends by looking it up in the Opening Explorer. In this instance however the players leave the book but then transpose back. Interesting. In retrospect we could have programmed it to say "once you leave book, the game has begun, no exceptions." Since we didn't, the argument could be made to not fiddle with it. After all, it does make sense, and we'd hate to wipe out all those par scores. |

 | | Annie K.: <Chessgames.com: <No we can't, it wouldn't be professional. It wouldn't meet our game submission standards. It would skew the Opening Explorer statistics.>> Gigglez, heheheh, LOL... no, srsly, I've been giggling about that all day. Thx. :D Cute game, too!
Take a look at <Switch>'s and my suggestions regarding the Bistro earlier here, when you get all caught up, k? :) <whiteshark> heyy, u iz back! =) PS - yes, I *have* been spending way too much time over at cheezburger lately. How could you tell? :p |

can you place emoticons in your site please. Specially the "rolls eyes" emoticon. It always comes in handy here. ;D |

| Sep-09-11 | | TheFocus: This is what <DrMal> posted on the Wheeler vs. Goldsby page. <DrMAL>< As far as AJ Goldsby being "abrasive" at least he rarely violates the CG Posting Guidelines and, more importanty, US LAW in doing so. ChessGames.com has been notified of intent to file a legal complaint against them for allowing certain members to make (MANY!) illegal posts. What happens in the days to follow should be interesting, at least to me. I, for one, I am finished ignoring such blatant "flaming" illegalities on this site (while they remain posted!) and, as such, have (at least in mind) intention to pursue this matter legally, ChessGames.com as well as those in violation of US Law. Be advised.> |

 | | chessgames.com: <perfidious> We are not going to tolerate turning this forum, intended to help members use both free and premium features, into another flame war. Pursuant to that, your comments were deleted along with replies to it by <solskytz> <hedgeh0g> and others. We're not saying you are wrong, we're not saying you are right, we are just saying that it doesn't belong on this forum. |

 | | chessgames.com: <TheFocus> Thanks for alerting us to that, but <DrMAL> already emailed us virtually the same information. We were going to email him back, but we have nothing to hide and there's no harm in answering him publicly: As it says on virtually every page of this site:
<Please observe our posting guidelines: ...
4. Nothing in violation of United States law.> Rule #4 is the most rare of the complaints but it's not without precedent. For example, we once removed links to a site where you can download pirated chess software. It's rare, but it happens, and we take it VERY seriously. However, there haven't been any complaints of this nature recently, from DrMAL or anybody else. That's why we find it odd to be suddenly informed that our website is illegal and we'll be contacted by an attorney shortly. If DrMAL or any other user believes that a law is being broken then they should inform us using the Whistle function or via email (whatever works best). Of course we will need specifics: give us URLs to the actual pages and the content on the page which you believe is in violation of USA law, and ideally even tell us which law you believe it violates. Of course we're not attorneys, but we have hired one, and he believes we're operating in good faith by having these policies. So we sincerely ask DrMAL or anybody else to try to work within our own policies and they will find there is no need to threaten us with legal action. |

|
| Sep-10-11 | | I play the Fred: <DrMAL>, you're <still> on this? Instead of the link, I'll post my response in full here: From <DrMAL>'s link: <Defamation, sometimes called "defamation of character", is spoken or written words that falsely and negatively reflect on a living person's reputation.> So we are damaging the reputation...of <DrMAL>'s anonymous online identity? I mean, unless <DrMAL> is his real name (which I doubt), how could he possibly have a case? Moreover, how could the postings of "psychotic" people who post "trash" (quoting DrMAL directly) thereby damage the reputation of anyone? That's like saying a crazy homeless guy shouting vulgarities at the President damages Obama's reputation. If anyone has a case here, it's <perfidious>. He was subjected to insults <on his player page<<>>> by <DrMAL>. But when one considers the source of the insults, it's safe to say that <perfidious'> reputation hasn't been harmed in the slightest. |

| Sep-10-11 | | twinlark: Hi <ceegee>!

| Sep-11-11 | | LIFE Master AJ: OK, something has happened ... and I am somewhat "weirded out" by the experience ... On my player page and in my forum, I had an exchange with another user. <smackedup ...> it was neither overly friendly nor antagonistic. I thought all of his questions were legitimate ... and all of my replies ... well, I went out of my way to be measured and not go overboard. I come back and I find that all of this user's posts had been deleted. (Not mine!) What the heck happened? I don't get it. It seeemed a relatively harmless exchange, I saw nothing in those posts that was that bad. Care to explain this? (Respond by e-mail, if you prefer.) |

 | | chessgames.com: The user smackedupgoose is a known troll who's been here for years. The other night he posted childishly over and over, with "toilet humor" etc. The poor admin on duty at 5:00am USA time, during the live game, certainly didn't feel like actually reading all of his posts (about genitalia etc.) so some mass deletion took place. Sorry if it disturbed a page of your chessforum. |
