 | | chessgames.com: To let the cat out of the bag, we already put together Thematic Challenge chessforum for the purpose of discussing which openings to vote on. But we weren't planning on opening the discussion forum there until the Spring Newsletter was released and the final list was settled upon. Also: yeah, Yifan really needs a new photo. Does she have an official website? When it comes to acquiring permission, we have excellent luck just asking. |

It would useful to move the posts about the thematic challenge from this page to the forum when it's open for business. |

| Mar-16-12 | | AylerKupp: <<kutztown46:> <AK> In other words, the only thing better than winning is rubbing it in!> Yes. Unfortunately one needs to win before one can rub it in and that is sometimes hard to do! Some have managed to master the art of rubbing it in even after they lose but I have to admit that this ability has so far escaped me. |

| Mar-17-12 | | twinlark: Hi ceegee.
The discussion on Judit Polgar 's player page is getting out of hand, and at best is pretty useless. IMO most if not all of the recent discussion after <cro777>'s last post on 15 March (shortly after Susan Polgár's post there) could be deleted as some of it is sexist, and all of it is off topic. |

 | | chessgames.com: For those who have no common sense whatsoever, here are some tips on how to comment on chess player's appearances without invoking the ire of the admins (not to mention everybody else): • Never lose sight of the fact that the person that you are commenting on is a real human being who will one day most likely visit their page here and read the words you wrote. • Don't insult anybody's appearance. If you have nothing nice to say, then stay mum. • If you are being complimentary, and you're sincere, then that's great. • ...but don't overdo it, for then it gets creepy.
• And finally, please let's not discuss how attractive somebody is, if they are under the legal age of consent in most southern USA states. That gets even creepier. There's no double standard here. All of these rules equally apply to women and men. Just use some common sense here and we can keep this place polite and decent. |

 | | chessgames.com: <notyetagm> We're working on it. The PGN file is bizarre in some ways, like how it switches from Windows to Unix format midway through. The crazies part is how it has tags like [Round "Round 8"]. We've sent it over to be reviewed by our Department of Redundancy Department. |
|
| Mar-17-12 | | twinlark: Good stuff, <ceegee>, well done. |

 | | chessgames.com: European Individual Women's Rapid Chess Championship (2012) are up now, although several games were missing from the official site. It also brought to our attention how Tatiana Kosintseva is another player in dire need of a more recent photograph. |

| Mar-17-12 | | achieve: <chessgames.com: For those who have no common sense whatsoever, here are some tips> Haha - brilliant... "whatsoever" heh Regarding the "freezing cursor" - I did try your suggestion and went to HJ Federer page #1, and the exact same phenomenon; no improvement whatsoever. However, it's a relatively minor bug, and isn't much of a problem to me and I suggest to let it rest for now, as you may have a look at it more closely at any time in the future, if at all. If you need additional info, then, just let me know.
Thanks for "lending an ear", doctor. ;) |

 | | Annie K.: <cg: <It also brought to our attention how Tatiana Kosintseva is another player in dire need of a more recent photograph.>> And Wesley So, preferably one of his own choice. :)
<achieve: <<chessgames.com: For those who have no common sense whatsoever, here are some tips> Haha - brilliant... "whatsoever" heh>> Agree. :D
Now, <achieve>, while you're here, how about sending cg some audio files of Dutch players, starting with Euwe? I'd rather hear an actual native pronunciation than mine. ;) |
|
| Mar-17-12 | | achieve: <Annie K.> I'd be happy to send audiofiles toCG - as I already prepared to send files to <JFQ>. I haven't had satisfactory response yet from her as to how the emailed files work for her, but I used the "audacity"-created files with their typical extensions. I'd be happy to coop, but your "Euwe" is actually quite close. "Daniel Stellwagen" is another story, though. ;) And if there are better/more preferable ways for sharing audio then by all means let me know. |

I doubt it, it has been asked only to fall into deafening silence. |

 | | Annie K.: <achieve> you can just send audio files directly to cg, only make sure they are in mp3 format, and the file name is the player ID. If your Audacity doesn't have mp3 format, you can probably download a converter - Jess directed me to a good one at http://download.cnet.com/Free-M4a-t..., that works for my iPhone's m4a files, and I've been using it since. What extensions does Audacity have?
Stellwagen and all the other Dutch players, plus players of any other nearby nationalities that you are familiar with, would be great. And I'd still like to hear a "perfect native" rather than "quite close" audio for Euwe. He's important, and the audio project is not meant to be my private enterprise. :) |
|
| Mar-18-12 | | achieve: <Annie> Thanks for those tips. Audacity extension is .aup I agree we need a "good Euwe" for the pages here, and will follow your suggestions re a converter. I have a stereo HQ mic plugged directly into my computer, and there ought to be more software on the net for recording and editing as well, so I will have a look. |
