 | | Domdaniel: There's a pattern here which recurs regularly. A bunch of members kick up a fuss about something or other on this forum - and then along comes a post from <notyetagm> actually suggesting a *chess* forum for some event. And thus wrenching the topic back to where some people think it belongs.
Is <notyetagm> some kind of admin plant? Or even an algorithm? |

| Oct-16-13 | | DoctorD: I keep getting a security warning about running an unsigned application whenever I click on a game. Can this be fixed? |
Oct-16-13
 | | WannaBe: <DoctorD> That is your Java, next time, find the "Don't display this again" or the "I trust this site" and select "OK". (It's been a while since I did the procedure, so exact step/wording may not be correct.) |
| Oct-17-13 | | Robed.Bishop: Actually, with the most recent Java update for Macs, checking the box inexplicably does not keep it from coming back. The warning also states that a future update will not allow Java to work at this site (not a direct quote). I'm waiting a day or so to see what happens before I investigate further. |
| Oct-17-13 | | DoctorD: Yes there is no such procedure available for indicating I trust the site anymore, and I also get the warning that a future update will not allow Java to work at this site. So I really don't know what to do at this point. |
| Oct-17-13 | | Abdel Irada: I note that an update to Java came out earlier today, although nothing seems to have changed on the game pages. Are there any plans in place for dealing with this issue? ∞ |
Oct-17-13
 | | chessgames.com: We're aware of the Java issue and it appears that we'll have to soon come up with a digital signature and a "registered publisher name" to get CVD to run with minimum fuss, at least on Safari. Incidentally,we haven't seen this behavior on MSIE or Firefox; it seems to be specific to Safari. If anybody knows of another browser that is suddenly acting differently please let us know. |
| Oct-17-13 | | Abdel Irada: <Incidentally,we haven't seen this behavior on MSIE or Firefox; it seems to be specific to Safari. If anybody knows of another browser that is suddenly acting differently please let us know.> I use Firefox.

 | | chessgames.com: <I use Firefox.> Mac or Windows? |
| Oct-17-13 | | Abdel Irada: Windows.

| Oct-17-13 | | DoctorD: Yes, I use Firefox for Windows as well. |

I use Google Chrome browser and I get this message whenever I click a game page:<Do you want to run this application? An unsigned application from the location below is requesting permission to run.Location: http://www.chessgames.com/java/cvd/
Running unsigned applications like this will be blocked in a future release because it is potentially unsafe and a security risk. Select the box below to run the application
I accept the risk and want to run this app.> |
| Oct-17-13 | | Abdel Irada: The message I see is similar, if not identical, to <chancho>'s. ∞ |
| Oct-17-13 | | Thanh Phan: I have found that using Chrome and Vista with both upgraded appears stable for game viewing, an interesting note about the Safari conflict |
| Oct-17-13 | | benjinathan: Is there a way to search to see if a particular pun has been used in any game? For example, if I wanted to see if "a bird in the hand" had been used on any game is there a way for me to find that out? |
| Oct-17-13 | | hms123: <chancho> I use Google Chrome as well and don't see any message. |

Oct-17-13
 | | WannaBe: Got the latest update, Version 7 update 45-b18 and on IE9, I no longer see the check box that will trust a site. (Windows 7, Ultimate) On Win8 Professional, IE10 same thing. No check box, but if I don't close my browser, or reboot/shutdown my PC, it won't ask again. (If I go from game to game, it <WILL> ask again if I close my browser/tab and come back to CG.com, this is both Win7/8 with IE9/10.) Also, of interest, the 64-bit update did not work on either of my PCs, I had to install the 32-bit in order to see the games. (Both of my systems are 64-bits) I do not remember if I encountered this for the last Java Update. |
| Oct-17-13 | | Robed.Bishop: <CG: We're aware of the Java issue and it appears that we'll have to soon come up with a digital signature and a "registered publisher name" to get CVD to run with minimum fuss, at least on Safari.> Yes. These Java problems will be ongoing as long as vulnerabilities continue to be found, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. |
Oct-17-13
 | | WannaBe: On Win8.1 with IE11, you'll get a warning from IE first, and then you'll get another warning from Java. But if you allow it to go through, you'll see the games without any problems. |

 | | Annie K.: <benjinathan>: it's been done - Morphy vs Bird, 1858. Thanks to the hard work of our utterly indispensable <Phony Benoni>, you can always just go to the Game Collections, and search for his alphabetically sorted collections, with key term 'pun index'. :) |
| Oct-17-13 | | benjinathan: <Annie K.> Thanks, that was just an example of a pun that I thought for sure would have been used. Thanks for the instructions and thanks to <PB>. |
| Oct-18-13 | | Thanh Phan: <chessgames.com> Not entirely sure if this is fair or not for us or others in our situation, but an agreement for us if one of us votes in our household the other wouldn't while on the same team, We do converse often enough to keep track of the possible moves during the current games, with an expression of thanks towards the <chessgames community> for their thoughts on their ideas on what is the next best move |

 | | Domdaniel: <notyetagm> -- <I can neither confirm nor deny your suspicions. > Heh. Thanks for taking my 'suspicions' in the humorous spirit they were intended. In fact, I'm very grateful for your chess forum suggestions, which help to remind us why we're really here. |
