Neat, both white and black figurines.

Dec-13-13  davide2013: This interesting game: Alekhine vs Nimzowitsch, 1927 is included in Alekhine's best game, Batsford 1997, unfortunately it is 83 moves long, and only the administrator can add it to Guess the Move. Could you add it please? Thanks! :-)
Dec-13-13  davide2013: Ops sorry another one to add, always from the book Alekhine's best games, Batsford 1997: Alekhine vs Capablanca, 1927 If possible to add it to Guess the Move, thanks :-)
Dec-14-13  technical draw: Color me dumb. Fist I lose my beloved user name "goodchessactor" Now I'm stuck with "technical draw" at g-mail. Plus I can't put the treasure hunt on my enhanced menu. Next thing you''ll know a dog will lift his leg on my pants. Plus I haven't won the pick 3 lottery in 2 years. Things don't look too good for the new year. Soon people will stop paying my $20 humor fear. I can't earn an honest living thanks to Switchy. Maybe I can start a Kenya scam.
Dec-14-13  Mr. President: <technical draw: Maybe I can start a Kenya scam.> Do you have presidential ambitions?
Dec-14-13  Alien Math: <technical draw> open Menu Configuration Page find,

<ENHANCED MENU CONFIGURATION

Here you can choose which links are available on your enhanced Chessgames Menu which appears at the top of your screen.

NOTE: You do not have your enhanced menu activated. Once it is activated, you'll see the menu bar at the top of almost every page. Would you like us to activate your enhanced menu now? Yes No

Your current enhanced menu looks like this:> ,

select button <activate menu>

next follow notes
<hms123: <TD> I assume you know how to get here: Menu Configuration Page

and that the line of text

I gave goes in the <Extra> box at the bottom of the page.>

copy next paste <2013 Hunt http:// www.chessgames. com/perl/clues>

towards low part with typing box <EXTRAS> then push button <Update Enhanced Menu>

Dec-14-13  john barleycorn: Why do some pages allow scrolling with the "arrow" keys and some only by the "PgUp" and "PgDn" keys? (at least on my computer).
Dec-14-13  john barleycorn: I did not find the answering page for the christmas hunt.

I guess 1071454 could be the number

Dec-14-13  technical draw: Thanks <Alien Math> et al. I have it working now. Now if I can only figure out a clue.
Dec-14-13  Abdel Irada: Sorry, <td>. I can't grant the power to do things that are beyond my own.

Dec-14-13  MostlyAverageJoe: Okay, CG, while this message is somewhat delayed (I was working on it when Klu#14 came up, and then it escaped my mind to finish it), nevertheless I still would like to know what is going on. I did not modify any of the images linked below.

The following two pages were shown while clue #13 (Deep Thought vs Dlugy, 1989) was active; although I navigated away from them while hunting, later I was able to back up to these pages in Firefox' history and searched for "Deep".

Surprise, surprise...

Page 2 of all Maxim Dlugy's games: http://i.imgur.com/Dx28ll2.png

Page 3 of all Maxim Dlugy's games: http://i.imgur.com/t6xr0pj.png

These pages, taken together, should show all games that Dlugy played in 1989. However, the results of the Firefox' search boxes at the bottom of each of the above pages prove there is no "Deep" anywhere on them.

Here is page 2 of all Maxim Dlugy's games AFTER Klu#13 was solved: http://i.imgur.com/gVh3a7O.png

Bingo! After the prize was already claimed, the link to the game now showed up in my browser.

I notice also that on the before/after versions of page 2, games played in 1988 occur in the same sequence. The sequences of games from 1989 (rows 176 and below) are completely different.

Looking again at the first two snapshots (while Klu#13 was active), I see this game: Fedorowicz vs Dlugy, 1989 in row 176 on page 2 and in row 203 on page 3. Some others are also duplicated. On the other hand, this one: Dzindzichashvili vs Dlugy, 1989 is missing from both pages (easy to see, since it has 9 moves only, and would stand out).

OK, what's going on here?

One plausible explanation is that in order to make The Hunt more challenging, you are scrambling the sequence in which games (but only those played in the same year as the winning game) are presented when people display all games of the player.

Is that it? If so, then GOTCHA! (and hope that discovering this malfeasance is what earns the grand prize this year :-).

Cheers,

MAJ

chessgames.com: <MostlyAverageJoe> Unfortunately you've unearthed a rare bug that can occur on game lists.

It has to do with the way that the year 1989 breaks from page one to page two: sometimes the database decides to jumble up the order of games within a single year, so that when a page breaks like that it shows a game twice and suppresses another one. We have a plan to correct this issue, along with other problems with how it displays chronology.

Anyhow, no this has nothing to do with the Holiday Hunt, and our apologies if it cost you a prize.

Dec-14-13  MostlyAverageJoe: You mean that your SQL queries, clearly sorting by year, do not specify a secondary key (e.g., by game ID) to ensure stability of the results???

Hmmm...

chessgames.com: It's faster if you avoid a second key, or so I've been told. Anyhow, we have a fix planned.

SwitchingQuylthulg: This particular bug is nothing new. I've always tried to double-check page boundaries to make sure I'm not missing any games, and separately search for that year if that doesn't help.
Dec-15-13  Karpova: <chessgames.com>

I just noticed that all but one posts of User: Candide1966 have vanished, although they were all on-topic and very informative.

What happened? Is it possible to restore them?

Dec-15-13  technical draw: On the java viewer warning "Do you want to run this application" I see only one option "I accept the risk and want to run this app" The "Do not show this again for this app" does not appear. What am I doing wrong?
Dec-15-13  hms123: <TD> What you are doing wrong is running Java at all. I have given up on it and have gone back to the <pgn4(web)> default. If I want to move the pieces around I copy and paste the moves into SCID or some engine GUI depending on my mood. It is a pain, though.
Dec-15-13  technical draw: Thanks <hms123> but I want to have it like before. I'm running the <pgn4(web) cause I have no choice but I want want my chess viewer deluxe back.

  Domdaniel: <td> -- < I want to have it like before> Who doesn't?
As the old song goes, "Put 'em back the way they was/ They was dumb, they was heathen, but at least they was breathin'..."
Dec-15-13  hms123: <TD>

So do I, but I don't think it is a choice.

<Dom> It depends on how <before> it becomes. There was a time <before> Java. It seems that there is about to be a time after it as well.

Dec-15-13  technical draw: <hms123> That can't be true. We sent men to the moon. Surely we can figure out how to get the deluxe board set up.
