Apr-30-14  technical draw: Wow it works, thanks Karpova.
Apr-30-14  TheFocus: <technical draw> <Wow it works, thanks Karpova.>

I'm surprised you didn't know how to do this.

Of course, I can't cut and paste on my phone, so when I make a mistake, I have to redo the whole thing.

Apr-30-14  technical draw: <I'm surprised you didn't know how to do this.>

You'd be surprised how many things I don't know how to do. The other day I got a new cel-phone but to answer a call you had to flip it open and hit the green button but I wanted to answer it by just flipping. I thought it was hard to do but when my son came to visit (he's a cellphone engineer) I gave it to him to see if he could change it. He changed it in 40 seconds without manuals or instructions.

I remember when it was the other way around when I did things for him,,,,sigh.

Apr-30-14  TheFocus: <TD> Eventually he will be doing the things for you like you once did for him.

Wiping your drool.

Changing your Depends.

Feeding you.

Bathing you.

Apr-30-14  technical draw: <Focus> As long as I can use the computer it's ok.

Phony Benoni: Today's puzzle was also used two Sundays ago (April 20). Is this intended?

chessgames.com: No, big accident--we just offered a replacement (albeit quite easy for Sunday).
May-04-14  Karpova: Here you can find the games of the Agdestein-Hammer rapid match to qualify for Norway Chess Tournament 2014: http://de.chessbase.com/post/agdest... (scroll down).

chessgames.com: <Karpova> Yes, I read that a few days ago.

Allegations aside, it reminded me of that Woody Allen quip: "The food here is terrible, and the portions are too small!"

chessgames.com: In other news: the details for the next GM-vs-World Chessgames Challenge are being hammered out as we speak.

And don't think you're going to have another easy cruise to victory: this will be the first over-the-board GM in the "2700 club" to take the challenge! He's youthful and quite proficient at computers, so get ready for a true challenge.

Wauw,thats is good news !

Thanks CG.

May-05-14  davide2013: Sorry to bother you, I don't know what happened, but I suggested some games for Guess the Move, maybe Saturday night, I think they were done by Sunday (because I'm working on a specific opening line), and today I see the same games there back in the queue. Like if the engine analyzed the games, and then lost the data, is it possible? (or maybe I'm studying too much, and start to see something which is not there, in that case sorry! :-) )

chessgames.com: <davide> I emailed you about it. If it's a bug, it's a new one on me. Please take no offense if I say that the most likely explanation is that you are simply mistaken.

If it's any consolation, we just cranked up the speed at which GTM processes games 50%. For now there's no big event going on and we can afford the CPU cycles.

May-05-14  davide2013: Thank you :-) And sorry for bothering you :-)

offramp: I am totally impressed by the new look and all the new features!

Really superb, great additions.

The endgame Explorer is brilliant. Extremely well done!

The tabs along the top are very very useful.

There is a lot more...

Well done to all and thanks!

chessgames.com: <offramp> For a second I was confused at what you were even talking about!

Of course you mean the menu at the top of the page. That menu was always available from your Preference Page--you must have missed the memo. There are no new features there, if sometimes seems new to you it's been here all along and you just never knew.

What you say proves all the more that this change is needed.

Until yesterday, the Chessgames Preferences Page had an option called "enhanced menu at the top of the screen". Most of the CG power-users knew about this and activated it, and premium members can even customize it to link to whatever strikes their fancy (even other sites).

The problem was that a lot of people, especially newcomers, had no idea what that little checkbox did so they left it blank. Which is a pity, since CG is more fun with that little menu.

So here's what we did: we changed the option from "display menu at the top" to "hide menu at the top". So the default now is to show the menu, which is really the way it should have been all along.

May-05-14  kellmano: What the heck is a cg power-user?

WannaBe: All those running 220V, anyone using 110 are not power-users.

chessgames.com: A "power user" is somebody who knows the site inside-out, and sometimes uses features that we didn't know about. They are masters of the Chessgames Preferences Page, they maintain a Favorites List (and check up on people from My Favorites Page), they have memorized our FEN Help Page, they mingle in the Recent Chessforum Activity area, and so forth.

We have a recurring feature in our newsletter that gives tips on how to use advanced features, that always falls under this cute graphic:

May-05-14  Blunderdome: <CG> Wondering if you could work a little styling magic to make the enhanced menu links look slightly different for features that are only available to Premium members?

May not be in your interest -- you may want users seeing the "PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED" message as often as possible -- but I'm unlikely to remember which features I have access to, so I'm probably going to get frustrated and turn the menu back off.
