  Stonehenge: <"leaked" a little early>

If it leaked a little late, it would not be leaking I guess.

Jun-02-14  Absentee: <Domdaniel: <qawsedrftg> Heh. Of course it also stands for "Quite a while since everyone denominated Robert Fischer the greatest".>

Lovely!

By the way, I can't access the store. I only get a blank page. I tried with three different browsers, so I'm pretty sure it's not me.

chessgames.com: The store is changing platform, I've been told it will be back online shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

<Quite a while since everyone denominated Robert Fischer the greatest> Ha, that's brilliant.

Jun-02-14  davide2013: The engine analyzing the Guess the Move games is broken, or went on vacation :-) because I have the same 9 games in queue from 2-3 days. :-)

Can we please have a forum for the recent <2014 FIDE WOMEN'S WORLD BLITZ CHAMPIONSHIP>, won by Anna Muzychuk?

Thanks

chessgames.com: For those who missed the newsletter or it got junk foldered there is on online version here: http://www.chessgames.com/newslette...

<davide> The GTM engine automatically slows down when it detects an overloaded server. Between that hacker from a few days ago, the newsletter that was sent out, and the traffic from the Norway tournament it hasn't gotten much quiet time to process games.

Good news: we plan on upgrading our server soon and we plan on taking the old one and delegating it tasks such a GTM processing and possibly a new "play against the computer" style feature. Then the turnaround time will be amazingly fast and/or the amount of processing per move can be increased dramatically.

<Annie> :-)

WannaBe: Java 7, update 60, verified on Win7 Pro 64 bit, IE11. Will send updates on win8 other versions later.

I was kidding about the junk email filter, by the way. =))

chessgames.com: Yes, I've tested version 60 on OSX as well. I read in the patch notes something about them giving an option to suppress those annoying warning windows but for the life of me I can't see what has changed.

chessgames.com: <audio files> A member wrote in and was very happy to learn about the audio files (he has been a longtime user but never noticed the links). He suggested that we also make audio files for terms like j'adoube, zwischenzug, and fianchetto. Not a bad idea at all.

Annie K.: Heh, yeah, I've had requests too at YouTube and here. All these German, Italian, and French chess terms. Even one for FIDE's full name. I'm going to get around to them one of these years, if somebody else - like, a native? - doesn't beat me to it. ;)

  WannaBe: Pronounciation 101:

j'adoube -- (day jobe, like Steve Jobe) I adjust

fianchetto -- (finance-etto) I put bishop on a diagonal

zwischenzug -- (&*^%!9*&^) You lose, bubba.

Jun-02-14  PinnedPiece: Hi Cee Gee.

On the Carlsen vs Giri page for the Norway Chess tournament, check the link to the official site.

The URL should probably be this one:

http://norwaychess.com/

No the one to Shamkira chess tournament.

Missing a few games but that's par for the course with blitz events.

Annie K.: <cg> Please fix Max Harmonist's name at least in the online version? ;) BTW, for a first aid regarding those foreign chess terms, the pronunciations are supposed to be, approximately:

TSOOG-tsvung
TSVEE-shen-tsoog
FYUN-ketto

(for FYUN think of the word 'young', then add an 'f' to the beginning and discard the 'g' from the end... pronounce the beginning of 'ketto' as rhyming with the beginning of 'letter', then add a *short* o)

I can't really explain the French ones off the cuff - that's complicated! ;s

Jun-03-14  notyetagm: <CG.COM>

Thanks for the quick turnaround. :-)

chessgames.com: <<cg> Please fix Max Harmonist's name at least in the online version? ;) > Ugh, I didn't have time to have the Librarian proofread the newsletter this time so I tried to do it myself. There's an old saying in the newspaper business: "You can't proofread your own work." I should have taken that to heart.

A bit late now that 180,000 emails went out--but thanks for pointing it out.

Domdaniel: <CG> Hope you enjoyed the coffee break.

OK? Right. Now, I've got a couple more queries about the search function.

(1) The surname 'Noone' - as in Joe Noone - fails to return any results. Is this because the word 'no-one' is excluded?

(2) The apostrophe issue - names such as O'Hare - was apparently dealt with recently. But I'm again having problems with it. As in, names with an apostrophe return zero results.

chessgames.com: <But I'm again having problems with it. As in, names with an apostrophe return zero results.> That's odd, I will investigate.

I'm pretty sure the "noone" issue is related to stop words, in spite of the fact that "noone" is not a word.

chessgames.com: The O'Hare problem is fixed (again). There was another related issue involving two-letter names that was fixed afterwards, which contradicted the previous work. Thanks for pointing that out.
