  Stonehenge: <we will investigate this>

It very often (always?) happens when one part of the name is the same and another part of the name begins with the same letter. One example:

Israel Gat

the 2008 games belong to Gregory Israel.

  chessgames.com: Social media fanatics:

The bottom of our homepage now includes buttons to follow Chessgames on Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus.

Just so you know what you're signing up for:

• We haven't done a single thing with our Google+ page, so don't expect much out of that. If you have a Google+ account, please like us anyhow.

• Our Facebook page is less than a week old, and we aren't sure what we're going to do with it yet. We posted a few photos and chess puzzles. You can see here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ches...

• Our Twitter feed is probably the most exciting. If you follow us you get the puzzle of the day tweeted at 9:30am, linking to the puzzle graphic and the game page. We also make other small birthday tweets, occasionally mention the GOTD, and so forth. But most exciting of all: come December, we're going to use Twitter to announce each release of a clue for our Holiday Present Hunt! Please don't get in any accidents if a Nuklu comes while you're driving.

Jul-29-14  SugarDom: If you're assuming that there is no popularity contest in social media, you're wrong. In the first place, that's what makes it so popular.
Jul-29-14  Alien Math: As long as you are only here to argue~ have fun I guess

Going over to the Dark Side, you are? :p

Hey! When did you pick that term up?! :D

  jessicafischerqueen:

Good heavens...

I share some of <Annie's> humorous trepidation about the "dark side" of social media, but then again I rarely know what I'm talking about.

Please, please don't introduce a "like/dislike" button for kibutzes here?

I think it's possible to refrain from doing that without crucifying Brother <Sugardom>.

I should hope so anyway.

chessgames.com: We already have a "like game" button; it reads "add to game collection."

We have no intention of adding "like" or "share" buttons on games, players, tournaments, etc. That kind of thing clutters up pages and does nobody any good (except the social media giants).

Every now and then somebody suggests a "like" button for individual kibitzes as a site function. The one good thing I could think coming from that is a "post of the week" type feature, but that feature alone isn't worth the monitor ink needed to show the buttons.

chessgames.com: CG historians have traced the etymology of <Nuklu> to this post by Annie K: Domdaniel chessforum

You know the Puzzle Hunt will be a doosey when we're already talking about it in the summer.

Annie K.: Heh - I knew that part. Just wondering when you discovered and adopted it. :D

Ahem, for the historians - I came up with the term, <Dom> adopted it and decided to turn it into a religion, then some more friends, most notably <Switch>, joined us. Today, <Switch> is probably the most devout practitioner. Although in December, we all are. ;)

That sounds very promising, about the next Nuklu Season! =)

One of the things about this site I like. You have to make up your own mind about things (for the most part).

I was wondering if anybody else feels it might be advantageous to be able to get a forum post FEN off the diagram directly?

The ideal would be to do the context menu (ie. right click) and have a <Copy FEN> item on the menu.

That ain't gonna happen, so I've cooked up an "alternative" idea. To be explicit, I was hoping that <CG> might be able to use the <alt="FEN"> attribute of the image tag.

Right now, if I want to reproduce the FEN I have to do it via visually (a little tedious and error-prone, even for a fluent FEN-speaker). Or one can right-click and modify the image's filename (which is an encoded form of the FEN), e.g.:

http://www.chessgames.com/fen/3141/...

When I really just want:

click for larger view

1r4k1//2nnpp1p/3p2p1/1qpP4/2P1P2P/5N2/3BQPP1/4R1K1 b - - 0 21

(Well, you know what I mean.)

But if <CG> used the <alt=> attribute, I could right-click on the image and do <View Image Info> to find the <Associated Text> with the FEN, ready to copy-and-paste.

Sounds like a lot - but really should be easy to implement. I know that I've wished for it enough times (like when redoing/editing a post) to write this post.

(And once you get the Image Info in Firefox, you can easily scroll around to get all the diagrams on the page - you only need to right-click once. I'm sure the other browsers are similar).

Jul-30-14  SugarDom: Those who are too slow to adapt to change will become a dinosaur...
Jul-30-14  zanzibar: Well, well, well... I did that long post and only just now notice that the

<click for larger view>

link actually <does> have the FEN embedded in it!

javascript:OpenWin('/perl/fen?fen=1r4k1//2nnpp1p/3p2p1/1qpP4/2P1P2P/5N2/3BQPP1/4R1K1')

click for larger view

Of course, I still stand by the suggestion - for being able to get all the FEN in one window with slightly easier copying/editing (and also having full FEN - who moves for instance).

Jul-31-14  zanzibar: I now realize what I really want the most - the ability to edit a forum post.

Instead of just <delete>, maybe an <edit> which pulls up the raw input (i.e. the unprocessed one).

It would be active as long as the <delete> would have been. And there could be a <delete> somewhere on the <edit> page (or just submitting an empty comment would be the same).

A possibility?

It would save me a lot of mucking around doing my usual edit/appends tomfoolery to correct/expand a post I've already submitted. Others might find it a good idea too.
