| Jul-10-15 | | Alien Math: <Annie K. LG G2> Seems well enough with a 5.2in screen, might not have microSD card yet still able to opt for cloud storage, camera are well enough (comparison G2 vs G3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQr... ) interesting enough the G2 appears to have a longer battery life than G3, sorry I not able compare the G4 battery as have none, Updates for LG G2 appear now and then |

 | | WannaBe: I strongly recommend <Annie K.> one of these: http://www.gwblawfirm.com/wp-conten... Don't have to worry about being stolen, no hackers to worry about, and probably have 72 hours of battery life without recharging!! :-)) |

 | | Annie K.: <WannaBe> Uh, you're trying to get rid of me, aren't you?! I'm afraid it won't be that easy. ;p <Hanh> thanks, G3 is not even considered. Every review I read says it's not only not so much better than G2 as to be worth the upgrade, in some ways it's not even *as* good. And I did read that G2 is apparently going to get the new "Lollipop 5.1.1" update, so it should be forwardly compatible for a while yet. Question is just how long - my only problem with my good old iPhone 3G is that hardly any new apps will work with it anymore. So it's not so much the screen size and camera quality I'm concerned about in the G2 vs G4 choice - all the specs are quite good enough for me in both - just the question of how long it's likely to be until most new apps won't work on that older model either. |

 | | chessgames.com: <When I am not logged in games display fine and I can play through them. But when I login - I get the 'Java Not Supported' message.> The situation in a nutshell:
Anonymous and default accounts are set to pgn4web.
Your account is set to Chess Viewer Deluxe II.
Your new browser doesn't have Java, or it isn't working, or something. Ergo, when you visit anonymously everything works with pgn4web, but when you sign-in it tries to load Java, and your browser gives you errors. The simplest solution is to switch to pgn4web.
We made the Java Help Page to explain this in a little more detail, and give you tips if you decide to brave the waters and try to get Java working. (Please note that these days, if you succeed you are in a small minority.) Or if you like, just press the "activate pgn4web" button and switch viewers. |

 | | WannaBe: <CG.com> Any progress/report on that search problem I reported? Select 'black' and select 'Anand' on the drop down of players' list. It takes you to Anand's player page, without filtering for games that he have played with black pieces. |

| Jul-11-15 | | scout118: <cg.com> Please note the post below addressed to a user in violation of rule no.3 <MarkFinan> I'd appreciate if you refrain from posting personal attacks in my own private forum in violation of rule no. 3. You post was duly deleted.
We may have had some disagreements but do yourself a favor and don't take things too personally, restrain your emotions and act like an adult. |

If somebody posted something that could be deemed a serious infraction, I trust that he would call it to our attention using the Whistle function prior to deleting it. |

If somebody posted something that could be deemed a serious infraction, I trust that he would call it to our attention using the Whistle function prior to deleting it.> You've got it wrong. I'm the one who's properly administrating my forum. <MarkFinan> posted a personal attack in my forum which I deleted. I'm not about to allow myself to be harassed or insulted in my own forum or let anything escalate into a flame. I've seen some of this gentleman's posts deleted from other forums i.e. <tpstar> so this is not an isolated incident. Look, I'm not out to pull one over the Headmaster here and I don't think he'll listen to advise asking him to refrain from posting attacks and insults in other people's forums. Just thought we'd put this on the record as this person seems unable to control himself. Thanks. |

| Jul-12-15 | | Travis Bickle: Have you shortened the number of Forums listed on the ChesssForums page? It seemed like there was about 20 or so avatars & now only 12. If so why? |

 | | Domdaniel: < I'm the one who's properly administrating my forum> Is there a difference between the verbs 'to administer' and 'to administrate'? Sic. One wouldn't want to admonishtrate anyone, as it were. |
|
Jul-12-15
 | | chessgames.com: <Travis> It goes day-by-day, there is no fixed number. I suppose the chess forums have been quiet lately. <administer vs administrate> The distinction never occurred to me. I hope they are interchangeable, or I've been using them wrong for decades. |

 | | chessgames.com: <scout118> <You've got it wrong. I'm the one who's properly administrating my forum.<MarkFinan> posted a personal attack in my forum which I deleted.> I've very sorry, I interpreted your quotation incorrectly; I thought Mark was the speaker and not the one being addressed. In that case, it's *you* who are administrating your forum correctly, but if you want to go one step further you should "blow the whistle" on the post before you delete it. If you don't, we have no way of knowing that you deleted it because it was inappropriate, as opposed many other reasons why you might delete a post. Not to mention, we don't know what was posted. Also be aware that you can prevent a person from posting to your forum permanently when you put them on the ignore list. |

| Jul-12-15 | | scout118: <Domdaniel> The verb "administrate", though less common than "administer" was used in this particular case following the use of the form as an assertion in a discussion. However, <cg.com> was correct in using the form "administrate". One usually administers a drug, but administrates a business or a forum. But everyone would agree as you pointed out:
You shouldn't "admonishtrate" yourself too much for this, so to speak. |
|
| Jul-12-15 | | Everyone: <scout118> If <Everyone> were permitted to express approval, he would have done so now. |
|
| Jul-13-15 | | scout118: <Everyone> I suspect that somewhere between "were" and ..."now", there is a point, even humor, though not <Everyone> may get it. Having lived in the Caribbean, I quite understand how the mind is often infected by cabin fever (igloo fever for you Antarticans, or is it "massive trailer dorm" fever down far south). But do clarify, as I may be mistaken. Is Antartican what we call the local residents or is it the language spoken by local folks and penguins (polar bears too when they relocate)? You actually remind me of two cheerful acquaintances: One guy named Orson whose doctor told him to stop having intimate dinners for four. - Unless there were three other people.'
The other fellow I'll tell you about next time.;) |
|
Jul-13-15
 | | Domdaniel: <scout118> -- <One usually administers a drug, but administrates a business or a forum.> On reflection ... yes, that makes sense. I agree.
Self-admonishtration will auto-terminatize. |

(b) a fictional video documentary about Tessier-Ashpool, cited in William Gibson's cyberspace trilogy. |

 | | Fusilli: <CG> Thanks for posting my four new games. I have a question, though, and I suspect it is some kind of visual problem rather than a real one. My game against Alfonso Romero Holmes (one of the games just added) appears in my browser (Firefox) on page 3 as game 74 (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...) and also as the only game (#76) on page 4 (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...). My game with David Justice has disappeared from the roster of my games, but it remains in the database: D Justice vs M Sana, 2015. Is this a Firefox issue? Thanks! |
|
Jul-13-15
 | | WannaBe: <Fusilli> Using IE (Version 11) I see 3 games: Justice v Sana.
Game #41 draw 38 moves, 2010
Game #45 0-1 Sana, 36 moves 2010
Game #76 draw 40 moves, 2015 |
|
Jul-13-15
 | | Fusilli: <WB> I see that too. My question is why the last Justice v Sana does not appear listed on the roster of my games in my player's page, and Sana v Romero Holmes appears twice (page 3 and 4), even though it is not a duplicated game. My best guess is that every time you click on a player's page, the database refreshes the whole thing, and the order of games played in a given year may change. Does that make sense? |
|
Jul-13-15
 | | WannaBe: <Fusilli> I think the issue is this: I have my preference setting as 100 games per page, yours is 25 games per page. It's not a browser issue, but maybe an issue with how games are displayed when there are 'odd' number of games per page. If you think of kibitzing, 25 per page, if you click on earlier kibit'n, you will see 'duplicate' post, because of division by 25. I see that you have a total of 76 games in DB (Or should you have 77? Because one game is missing?) the last page of display (if you don't have the long list enabled) should display only 1 game. But my guess, is that it does not, it will display games 52-76. I can change my preference and test the theory out... |
|
Jul-13-15
 | | WannaBe: Hmmm... Clicking on >> takes me to page 4, and only one game is played. Does that confirm or deny my theory that 25 games per page is to blame? Monday, Ugh!! |
