MissScarlett: <chessgames.com: <Miss S> That one's still waiting in your newest batch, although with less precise names ("L B Meyer / J W Brunnemer"). I'll be sure to use the full names when it gets processed.>

Capablanca vs L B Meyer / J W Brunnemer, 1915

Anyway, just leave it.

chessgames.com: <FSR> That's baffling. Does it happen when you aren't signed in as FSR? When you go to the homepage try going to www.chessgames.com as opposed to chessgames.com as see if it changes behavior.

<Octavia> Yes, sounds great.

Yes.

<When you go to the homepage try going to www.chessgames.com as opposed to chessgames.com as see if it changes behavior.>

It doesn't. Either way, I can't reach the homepage.

chessgames.com: This sounds incredibly far-fetched, but it's almost as if somebody or some software reconfigured your browser in a malicious way. We don't have a script called <redirect> much less <redirect.ha>

(That "ha" at the end almost seems like a taunt. That's what made me think of malicious configuration.)

Do you have another browser on the machine to test?

Also, how long has this been going on? Just in the past day or so?

This is really crazy.

chessgames.com: After some research I found that this is an issue (read: bug) with some AT&T modems.

<When your modem loses its connection, AT&T has decided that instead of your browser showing you the generic errors about not being able to connect to the internet, it should intercept your browser request and redirect you to a help page with a friendlier message. This wouldn't be that bad if it weren't for a BUG in the modem firmware. When it redirects you to /cgi-bin/redirect.ha, <it doesn't tell your browser not to cache the page>. That's the problem. Even when your connection is restored your browser continues to redirect you because it has it cached. This is why clearing cache fixes it and why using HTTPS fixes it (browsers don't cache HTTPS).> https://productforums.google.com/fo...

So, short answer: it's not malware, just a bug, and the quick fix is to clear your browser cache but that won't guarantee it can't happen again. A full-blown solution is outlined on the page above.

Aug-18-15  Zhbugnoimt: Chessgames: Why does Team White have so long for the first move in Team White vs Team Black 2015?
Aug-18-15
Premium Chessgames Member
chessgames.com: <Zhbugnoimt> We always do it this way. Not everybody visits Chessgames daily; this gives people time to learn about the new challenge and register before the first move.

I don't believe Team White has any additional advantage from this policy. The first move has very little to do with chess analysis and more to do with meeting your team mates.

Thanks for your patience, and good luck come September 1st!

Aug-18-15  MarkFinan: Ging gang <Guly Guly Guly> watch out <Li Quan Liem.>

That's my puntastic pun for the tournament last month which had players with similar names, although I have a feeling they're spelt incorrectly, lol.

And I love Morf, I think he's a top bloke, but I think he's wrong over that pun. Hanging Nazi's after the war was what we were supposed to do, otherwise they'd have ended up like the crazy one (Wow!! If the Nazi's had a "crazy one" I'm shocked we didn't hang him!) Hess, who kinda kept skinheads marching around Europe in the 80's....by being alive.

Aug-18-15  twinlark: Hi <ceegee>. Will citizenry be revoked?
Aug-18-15

  chessgames.com: <Will citizenry be revoked?> Well, it's not carved in stone, but I changed changed <citizen of ____> to read <federation/nationality ____>.

I may hard-code it so that the word "federation" doesn't appear before some specific date, but it's still OK as it stands; that's what the slash is for.
