 | | Tabanus: <CG> In search for perfection: R Edouard vs Radjabov, 2015 0-1, A Shchekachev vs R Polzin, 2015 0-1, R Polzin vs S Halkias, 2015 1/2 if we are to trust the official site and Chess-Results as regards game results. (I think we may just as well.) Slips are sent. Three games are missing: Rd. 1: Andreikin - Wendt 1-0
Rd. 1: Lagunow - Bauer 1/2
Rd. 6: Ganguly - Harikrishna 1/2, if these games can be found somewhere. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Only two digits are allowed there.> I just changed it to 3, please try again. (Note however there is an actual hard-limit of 255 for the time being.) The missing games don't appear to be available. |

 | | Tabanus: <CG> I found one of them (and submitted it), but have not found the two missing games from round 1 (yet). I messed up the blitz event a bit because of editing the standings before the results were corrected. I'll try to finish it later. The rapid event also has wrong game results but not so many, maybe 15 or so. Slips are underway. |

 | | Tabanus: <I just changed it to 3> And it works. The blitz event should now be squeeky clean? The four yellow marks should disappear if the two missing games are found. Two players (Pavlidis and Halkias) have only 20 games because they were "not paired" and given 0 points in rd. 1. And apparently no wins by forfeit. |

 | | WannaBe: <offramp> I usually use the opening explorer and then after a few moves, click on the ECO of the one I wish to explore/comment on. You then reach this page: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... At the top, is the link to the comments. |

| Oct-20-15 | | FairyPromotion: <offramp> Also, the ECO code displayed at the top right of the board in each game is a direct link to the opening pages. I.e. if you go to Karjakin vs Anand, 2006 you can click <(B90)> and it will take you to a page for Najdorf. This is the option I use the most, however it is not available in the mobile version. |

 | | Tabanus: Done with World Rapid Championship (2015). About 12 wrong game results are corrected. There is one unavailable game: Eljanov-Olafsson 1-0 in rd. 1. Andreikin and Zepeda played only 14 games, and Lagunow only 13 games. Call it fanfare, but my suggestion to improve the site is to use <Chess-Results> often! |

 | | chessgames.com: About finding a specific opening page:
The "official method" is to use the Advanced search, and either pick a range of ECO chapters using the pulldown, or enter the specific ECO chapter. Of course none of us all have 500 chapter memorized, so if you don't know what chapter you want, you can click on <(ECO help)>. For premium members a much more practical approach is to use the Opening Explorer, as WannaBe mentioned. Plus there are numerous side-avenues to get there as others have pointed out. <Stonehenge> I think there's a reason for that but I'd have to look at the code to remind myself what it was. <zanzibar> Yes, that's a bug for certain, had no idea that was occurring. I know you are savvy enough to get around that issue with escape-codes but it should't be dong that. Thanks. |

| Oct-22-15 | | zanzibar: I have a request/question I've been wondering about for a long time... <In the <Advanced Search> page, can the search parameters not be cleared automatically after each search?> The idea is to be able to keep the parameters in the form, so if a search fails due to a typo (or needs to modified and redone) then one can just backpage and modify the data entries. There's a <Clear> button already on the form, but it seems to be done automatically upon executing a search. It sure would make a big improvement in my life, given the large number of typos I make. Plus it would be handy not to have to reenter all the data when narrowing the search (e.g. with year and/or ECO codes, etc.) |

 | | Annie K.: <zanz> I think that's a (page refresh frequency) browser setting, rather than a cg setting. I can backspace on a search and return to a main page with my previous search criteria still filled in. |
|
| Oct-22-15 | | zanzibar: <AnnieK> Really?
At the moment I'm using Chrome, but I seem to remember the same with Firefox, let me check... ah, you're right! Firefox doesn't do that.
Hmmm, wonder how to get Chrome to do the same?
Note: It may be a combination of both <CG> and browser - since Amazon doesn't clear the form entries like <CG> does. So, my request remains (I think).
* * * *
(See above - added after the following)
I can do it for comments, and for other input forms on other sites. But not for <Advanced Search> on <CG>. (Update - just checked Amazon, and it doesn't clear the entries) Just curious, what browser are you using? |

 | | Annie K.: At home, mostly the latest Opera, though I have a bunch of others installed as well, with Safari for Windows being my second favorite, and FireFox third. Chrome is trash. :p At work, mostly the latest IE (hardly my choice, has to do with work program compatibility issues). But even on IE, backspace returns to filled-in content. Anyhoo, keep in mind that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and those of us who usually know what we're doing around here are the few. :p Just imagine someone accidentally "filling in" an Advanced Search box, and never getting any results ever again, because they never notice the mistake and it never gets cleared out. ;s |

 | | Peligroso Patzer: Set forth below is the score of moves for a game you may want to include in your database. The principal significance of this game is that the moves were used by Ronan Bennett in his novel “Zugzwang” (Bloomsbury USA ©2007, passim) for a correspondence game played between two characters in that novel (Otto Spethmann and Reuven Kopelzon). The game concludes with Black in zugzwang after White has managed to activate his king effectively notwithstanding the presence of queens still on the board. My source for the moves is ChessBase’s Mega Database 2015. (2198737) King, Daniel J (2514) - Sokolov, Andrei (2565) [B25]

 | | chessgames.com: <In the <Advanced Search> page, can the search parameters not be cleared automatically after each search?> Annie K is right, this is mostly a browser property, but some savvy websites have a feature where some link, e.g. "refine search", sends you back to the search form with the values still intact, whereas the back-page button is iffy at best. As a workaround, some browsers let you open the form results in a new window (usually by right-clicking as you press it) — therefore if you need to make a change to the initial form you can flip back to the original window. |
