 | | chessgames.com: <You may be pleased to know that the <Guardian> recenlty selected Cg.com as the <"best Christmas website ever, brahs"> in one of their more trenchant analyses.> Is this holiday jest or did they really mention us? I'd love to read it. <Annie K.: Just found a great pic of Sopiko Guramishvili (or is it Giri now?) at Qatar> Oh that's just wonderful—I predict Giri and Sopiko will be the #1 chess couple for quite a while! |

 | | offramp: <jessicafischerqueen> I am assuming that it is the Manchester (UK) Guardian that had the article. That is a very technologically cognizant newspaper, the first one in the UK to have a major online presence. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Cg.com> It's a jest, sir. That said, I think it likely that many editors and contributors of that august organ are chess players. And when chess players go online to investigate chess games and chess history, where do they come? They come here I'll bet.
Here's a tip about fake news that I post. I always include a URL address that doesn't exist. They look "official" because they turn into actual links- but the links always go to a dead page. Example:
http:///Fake_News_URL.com |

| Dec-27-15 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> <<Is <CG> aware of this behavior?> Quite; you must be the 10th person to mention it over the years. It's a curious side-effect of an SQL query which is in all other respects perfect. (Arguably this behavior is also perfect, albeit unexpected.)> I figured it might be known...
I'm not a crackerjack SQL guy, but isn't DISTINCT a useful search term for such situations? * * * * *
<JFQ> Ah, you've broken all our little hearts! |

Yeah, he is a monster, as in a monster of the ChessBookie game, prediciton contests, etc. Seriously, everyone is playing on Hall of Fame mode, while he's playing on rookie mode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ec... |

Since URLs can't contain underscores to the left of the TLD, I suppose it should have been immediately apparent that your link couldn't have been real. ∞ |

 | | Annie K.: <cg: <I predict Giri and Sopiko will be the #1 chess couple for quite a while!>> Unless Carlsen also hooks up with a young lady in the field... :) BTW: in keeping with the site's request to mention the source, it may be a good idea to add something like "Sopiko at Qatar Masters Open 2015" to the text under her photo? |

 | | Richard Taylor: Thanks, and thanks for the other years. I spoke briefly about the problem of getting PGNS and (in the case of the Seniors) they simply didn't have anyone to input the games. But they use Vega about which I know nothing. Alphaeus Ang's father, who is a 'qualified' arbiter and I runs a computer company would be able to talk to you about that kind of stuff. I leave all that stuff aside as I am simply not cut out for any kind of committee or official work and although I was once a tech (but not in IT as such) I have forgotten more than I ever knew! So I remain gloriously ignorant of the detailia... I'll be playing. I expect to be executed by players well down from the great Nigel Short, who, to add interest, is going to give a simul against women chess players! I laughed out loud at our club when I heard this but he is, while controversial, I think a consummate sheitte stirrer! But is interesting being able to play in the same tournament with many strong players (relative to my rating in any case). I'll ask Helen Milligan and Murray Chandler etc if I get time if they are interested in becoming members of CG.com so they can liaze (?) perhaps... GM Murray Chandler also sells his Gambit chess books at the tournament. Thanks for your "best of luck"...I need it chess wise but I'll treat it as my usual chess sadomasochistic holiday and ritual enacted when the weather here is very hot and everyone else is at the beach or in the bush somewhere camping and enjoying themselves! |

 | | Richard Taylor: <cg.com> Thanks also for your site over the years and the many resources I have used on here. Also the interesting puzzles, tournaments, and the opening facility and other great facilities. I share with <Benzol> a friend who lives near me and has been in the same chess club, I would say, a thanks for the many things and the 'social' and chess interaction on here. Belated Merry Xmas and New Year to you and everyone here on chessgames.com! Ho! Ho! Ho! |

 | | chessgames.com: His FIDE rating was never above 2450, and he lacks the CGSOMI, so he doesn't qualify. But we're happy to wish him the very best 80th birthday. |
