 | | Annie K.: <luftforlife> please assume the <cg> administration to be as well-meaning as you are. :) I believe what was meant is that rejecting PGN for including an extra field would be ridiculous, not that your question was ridiculous. |
|
| Apr-24-16 | | zanzibar: <luft> I agree with <AnnieK>. I felt a little sting when reading the "ridiculous" too. Although it would be ridiculous for <CG> to reject a good PGN due to an extraneous tag, wouldn't it? Let's mark it up to the rough and tumble of working out some details as we try to work out the various issues involved shall we? |
|
| Apr-24-16 | | luftforlife: <Annie K.>: Thanks for your helpful message. Certainly that's how I'd like to read that characterization. However, I did and do find it untoward that I came in for unwonted opprobrium; <chessgames.com's> minatory closing comment, "I am tempted to not process luftforlife's submissions on purpose in order to use his games as the first round of testing," adumbrated malversation, evinced a vindictive cast of mind, and smacked of bad-faith. I take that comment to heart, and I take it personally, as unjust affrontery, and as unfair mistreatment. That comment was uncalled-for, unprofessional, and unwelcome. I don't like being shamed, ridiculed, or pilloried, and I surely don't deserve it. Thanks again for your helpful message, which I do appreciate. |

| Apr-24-16 | | luftforlife: I respect those in authority until they abuse that authority. I will not be bullied by anyone -- even and especially those who hold sole power. He who wishes my coat may take my cloak too, but I'll keep hold of my self-respect. I am servile to no man, and so the adjective "obsequious" is inapplicable to me, and to my words and actions. |
|
| Apr-24-16 | | zanzibar: <luft> I apologize for that turn of phrase. You might be misinterpreting <chessgame> in this matter. But I also think you might have been misinterpreting <MissS>'s no-no as well. How can we defuse this? |

 | | Tabanus: <CG> My suggestion is that you take in <luftforlife>'s submitted games asap, and also make him an editor. I think he has proved, as much as anyone else you have approved, that he is capable. So that we can go on with our chess history work - which you are interested in will contrinue, right? While you are working with the pgn issues. Your use of the word "ridiculous" and that you consider toying with his game submissions does sound a bit arrogant to me, but hopefully you did not mean it that way. |
|
| Apr-24-16 | | zanzibar: FWIW- I didn't read <chessgame>'s idea to use <luft>'s games as a test-bed as being a negative. Since they already had the Source tag, it would be natural to use them to debug the new processing procedure. I'll gladly volunteer other games for this purpose if need be. |

| Apr-25-16 | | Keyser Soze: <WannaBe: Java 8, update 92 confirmed on Windows Systems.> I gave up from java on chrome ; too much hassle. Might get Firefox because I love Chess Viewer Deluxe. |

| Apr-25-16 | | Benzol: <Java 8, update 92 confirmed on Windows Systems.> Why does Java need updating every five minutes? |
|
| Apr-25-16 | | zanzibar: <Benzol> Only every 5 minutes?! Might need even more frequent updating... |

I'm sure this has been mentioned before. Wait! I mentioned it...chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #24924). There are other problems with the "US Chess Championships (Women) Tournament" table. It needs to be cleaned up. |

| Apr-26-16 | | thegoodanarchist: <thegoodanarchist: < chessgames.com: ... By the way, I've always wondered: Do premium members LIKE it when we make games available for premium members only,> <cg.com> Speaking as a <former> premium member, I don't mind it when you reserve it for the elites. As a member of the unwashed masses I feel like an "extra" on the Game of Thrones set, playing a pauper on the streets of Kings Landing.> Having said this, I also like it when the last two rounds of a tournament (Norway Chess, for example) are available to everyone :) <hint hint, nudge nudge, wink wink> |

| Apr-26-16 | | luftforlife: <zanzibar>: Thanks for your messages, and for your offer to volunteer test-bed games of your own. I accept your apology. :) I drew a reasonable inference from <MissScarlett's> kibitz in the Bistro, and my construction of <chessgames.com's> reply was objectively reasonable as well, but I agree with you: I may well have misinterpreted the subjective intent behind both messages (which I take to have been posted by two different users/members). Certainly <MissScarlett> wrote nothing whatsoever in this connection that I found objectionable in any wise; indeed, I found that member's editorial reply helpful (indicating the use of a Source tag by a biographer/editor at this time to be "a definite no-no.") Thanks again. |
|
| Apr-26-16 | | luftforlife: <Tabanus>: Thank you for your comment, for your observations, and for your supportive suggestion. I look forward to working with you and with others, as we have done quite productively and most enjoyably, on matters of chess history and biography. Always a pleasure. :) |

 | | MissScarlett: What is it with the <Bistro Kids> recently? Constantly taking offence, throwing a wobbly, threatening to leave, promising to die... Here's my response: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTD... |
|
| Apr-26-16 | | luftforlife: <chessgames.com>: I apologize to you for the astringency and asperity of my reaction to certain language you directed my way in your most recent kibitz on Source tags. I may well have misinterpreted what you wrote; certainly I hope I did so. Please know I hold you and this site in high regard; I thank you for all you have done as a visionary and driving force behind <chessgames.com> the site, and for all you do as its chief programmer and webmaster, and I look forward to positive communication with you in the future. I would like to help you and others here in any way I can, and I hope to be able to do so, as a member and, I hope, as an editor, with your blessing. You may find more positive comments on my forum about you and your colleagues <Sargon> and <Kev>, who I also wish to thank for their ongoing work. <SwitchingQuylthulg>, <Annie K.>, and <crawfb5> hold you in high personal and professional regard, as many others do, too, and, again, I want you to know that I do respect you, and that I highly regard your unique position here, and all that you have done, and all that you do, to make this site the special and eminently worthwhile place it is. Just so you know: I know there are delays in the PGN-upload-submission and -approval/-rejection process, and I've always accepted those delays. I know you and others are busy. I would never wish to have my submissions treated differently from anyone else's. I hope my submissions are worthy of acceptance; if so, it's fine with me if are accepted without Source tags; it's also fine with me if they are accepted with Source tags, even if that takes somewhat longer than accepting them without Source tags. Please know I wasn't trying at all to pressure you into making a decision on Source tags, or to accelerate the vetting of my submissions, or to force your hand in any way. I just wanted some clarification; thanks for providing it. Thanks again; I hope you are well; and I hope to hear from you soon. Best regards. |

| Apr-26-16 | | zanzibar: So yes, <luft>, glad to see that all is well with the gang. There's certain to be some more, ahem, stylistic adjustments yet to come, but we're still ticking... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E03...

| Apr-26-16 | | zanzibar: <MissS> <Constantly taking offence...> We all know, when comes to offences, <MissS> truly believes it's better to give than to receive. <throwing a wobbly, threatening to leave...> What exactly is a wobbly? Is it a condition due to too much cricket? Like a wimbly-nimbly? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fE_...

| Apr-27-16 | | Boomie: <Chessgames.com>
Is there any help for Search Kibitzing? If so, shouldn't there be a link to that help somewhere on the search page? I'd like to search for a specific move in one of the World's games. But the usual method of enclosing in quotes doesn't work. Or is it not capable of finding chess moves? That would be pretty odd for a chess site. Also I would like a way to limit a kibitz search to one forum. |
|
| Apr-27-16 | | zanzibar: <Also I would like a way to limit a kibitz search to one forum.> Hate to break it to you <Boomie>, but you ain't the only one wishing for that feature. |
|
| Apr-27-16 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> and others.... I'd like to pick up on the <Source tags> topic again. I think the Bistro might be a better place to stage the thread, but it's just a slight preference. See here:
