| May-25-16 | | zanzibar: <<Somehow <CG> must have stored a date separate from the dates inside the PGN tag?> <chessgames> Of course we do! It's a database, not a huge pile of text files. The shameful part is that the two data sources can get out of synch, but this has been tracked to admin error.> Yes, actually, I did phrase it a little poorly. I meant to comment on the fact that a game date gets stored in two separate places. Do you do the same for the other PGN tags as well? I would naturally think that those tags which are used by the DB get "factored" out of PGN, and only stored in the DB. Then such data, like a game date, is stored in just one place, never allowing for the possibility of becoming "de-synchronized" by being stored in two places. I always thought the PGN would then get reconstructed on the fly, from the DB header data + whatever leftover "blob" data (e.g. movelist) is needed. Seems to be just asking for trouble, to store the same data in two different places, otherwise. |

| May-25-16 | | zanzibar: BTW- I'm just trying to understand something.
I have a ZIP download that looks like I did on Feb 2015. When I unpack the zip file the PGN looks like it was prepared on Jan 1, 2015. Now, it appears I found the <Schallopp--Gossip> game. But the bogus date in the PGN matches the bogus date in the DB... <1900.??.??>
So, there's no "de-synchronizing" going on.
There's just a screw-up on the date thing going on.
Anybody can screw-up a date when submitting.
Isn't it just that simple?
Or did this game originally have a good date, and then <CG> munched it? |

| May-26-16 | | zanzibar: Yes, maybe I shouldn't wonder about this...
I seem to remember when the game was dated 1900 by <CG>, looking at the pgn4web PGN and seeing the 1890 date. So I was expecting to find 1890 date in my ZIP file version. So, is it true, that <CG> might use one procedure to make the PGN for pgn4web, and other while creating PGN for downloading? Or should I just... "forget about it"? |

| May-26-16 | | Appaz: Sorry if this has already been requested and answered before, but would it be possible to make external links open in a new page? There are already some preprocessing of urls in posts, so this would maybe not be a complicated change. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <zanzibar> The history of the Schallopp vs. Gossip game is more complicated than that. Originally, this database had two copies of the game - one dated 1900 and ending with 17.Qxh6+ Kg8 18.Qg5+ Kh7 19.Rh6#, and one dated 1890 and ending with 16...Kg7 - neither of which had a synchronization problem. (It's possible your copy of the database is old enough to have both versions.) At some point, the two versions were tagged as duplicates and merged, with the 1900 score as the primary and the 1890 score as a stored alternate score. Then the game became desynchronized, with the 1900 date as the "official date" and the 1890 date in the PGN; at that point, it was part of 1900-1909.zip, but the PGN in that .zip showed the 1890 date. The problem was fixed this April, and the game is now dated 1890 everywhere. |

| May-26-16 | | mahmoudkubba: Dear <<<ChessGames.Com>>>,
Best wishes,
Can I ask the following important question? And if the answer is only to me please answer me through my forum.
How much each rating point worth in real currency? For example in Canadian Dollar and/or US Dollar and/or Euro?
So between ratings of 600 till say 2900 what are the real amounts?
How to transfer a one point only to a real currency to cover some preparations and expenses for a real chess player???
And finally, how to transfer a one point from the rating even if in the cinema domain of the sleeping domain to real currency in such places???
With respect.
Yours,
MahmoudKubba |

| May-26-16 | | zanzibar: <Switch> thanks for that rundown. It looks a little complicated, and dizzying...
It's similar, in a sense, to the "de-synchronization" problems that tournaments can face, I think. Maybe all edits to the DB should go through a software layer to check proposed edits for integrity/congruence? I'm interested because I'm thinking about some of these issues for my home-brewing. |

 | | chessgames.com: We have some of the Igor Kurnosov Memorial (2016) games but our difficultly in reading the official site (http://surchess.ru) is causing a brief delay. We'll get it on the homepage as soon as we sort out the details. My dear <mahmoudkubba> <How much each rating point worth in real currency?> I'm sorry I do not understand the question. Chess rating points are not a currency; you cannot exchange them for dollars or euros or yen. |

| May-26-16 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> can you give me the ability to just drop an image into a blank space on a biography? Then, if there's no current image, we can just upload the new image. Maybe you can prompt for a caption to list the Source while we're at it. I think it's a great idea, and far less frustrating than the current procedure, where basically, all my submissions get ignored. It would save you the step of replying to my e-mail too. This way, if I'm going to be ignored, we can just do it directly. What do you say?

| May-26-16 | | mahmoudkubba: To <<<chessgames>>> and <<domdaniel>>: As far as I know there is. But of course it is not that easy to give it to anybody from here and there. As I said it might be used to enhance the situation of a player, preparation matters and etc. U C even football players have this fantazya and it is well recognized in their world. But as far as I know since the time of Nemzo and even earlier ,,,, how they treated him when wining a tournament by giving him the prize he never dreamed of: 5000 Cuban Cigars and how he used to think that they are going to appreciate his winning in a good manner. It is the way chess players are treated and I am not an exemption.
Any how it was said that only Kasparov and Bulgar and very few others are from those who make money from their games.
Of course there are the other level those who write ch. books till we step by step reach the lower level almost all ch. players: They have to support their ch. apart from supporting their livings. WAWWWWWWWWWW What a life
and no body even knows about the Rewards and Ajr and Thewab from God Almighty according to our way of thinking ... HaHaHa With respect,

 | | Tabanus: <CG> Will you eventually have more games from the European Individual Championship (2016)? You now have 472 games, Chess-Results (http://chess-results.com/PartieSuch...) has 617 games, yet Chess-Results has only half of the played games. |
|
| May-27-16 | | zanzibar: <Tab> Why do you say <C-R> only has 1/2 the games. I downloaded the PGN and got all 617 games, even after running SCID's twin-checker. You don't expect <CG> to keep all 617 of those games, I hope, since many involve unrated players, etc. |
|
May-28-16
 | | Tabanus: http://chess-results.com/tnr206558.... Over 200 players and 11 rounds, that's over 1100 games and the organizer has only about 1/2 of them. I was hoping that they might eventually present all the games of the 23 qualifiers (of which some has only 8 not 11 games), and that CG would take them in later. SCID does not think of such things. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Tab> Our PGN source broke for a few days because they renamed the file unexpectedly. Thanks for pointing that out, it should be current now. Also we have the Asian Continental Championships. |
|
| May-28-16 | | sonia91: EDIT: I see now that we posted in the same moment.
<chessgames.com> Thanks for uploading the Kurnosov Memorial, which just ended (but still not in the homepage) and the Asian Individual Championships. The European Women's Championship qualifies 14 (!) players for the KO Women's World Championship; you covered the previous editions: Tournament Index search: "european individual women%27s". |
