 | | chessgames.com: <thegoodanarchist: I got a message accusing me of "flooding the forum", which I did not do. It said I posted 11 seconds ago. I did, but on the Jeremy Lim page!!! Aren't these considered separate forums, or is cg.com one big forum for "flooding" purposes?> There is a hard and fast rule that nobody, not even me, can post more than 1 kibitz every 20 seconds. Occasionally I post something with a typo and try to do a 'ninja edit' on it very quickly, and run into that message. A slight nuisance, but it's a road bump there for good reason. |

 | | chessgames.com: <FEN reverser> I've written a few of those myself. In Perl most of the work gets done with this handy little stick of code: join '/', reverse split /\//, $fen |

 | | chessgames.com: <gauer> <is it okay to add current ChessBookie propositions to YourNextMove Rapid (2016) ?> That's up to the bookie. We don't frown on the practice as long as the ChessBookie stuff gets cleaned up from the page when the event is over. <Is that new Notable Chess Games (the Goat) able to work similar to sort a subset of notable games by an: opening code (like for the C89 page)> No but if you go to the C89 page— Ruy Lopez, Marshall (C89) —you'll see there are 6 notable games, 3 wins with White, 3 wins with black. <...or a tid page?> No, there isn't enough information to go on with selections like that. It's just for time frames. <Good job on the goat design, though.> Thanks. <Hopefully the design is not deviating much from the Chessgames Editor Guide suggestions.> I'm not sure what you mean by that. |

| Jun-20-16 | | gauer: < Thanks. <Hopefully the design is not deviating much from the Chessgames Editor Guide suggestions.> I'm not sure what you mean by that.> Capablanca Memorial (Elite) (2016) apparently had a player withdraw, and so Biographer Bistro asked about a couple of those tournament pages I worked on this weekend. Also, a couple of weeks ago, had a link to some of the 2016 <American> (rather than Asian) continental championship results. If you were interested in those or the ongoing Edmonton international this week, then there's some pgn links for you. |
|
| Jun-20-16 | | gauer: Sorry, I forgot the link (using google translate) https://translate.google.com/transl... - I'm trying to snoop through their site to see if any pgn file for it still exists (or maybe got published in a TWIC bulletin or somewhere else): http://www.chess-results.com/tnr225... was the play-off part of the link, but this time, the (latter) site did not have a pgn download location (even though some other pgns of El Salvador results exist). |

| Jun-20-16 | | zanzibar: RE: <FEN reverser>
If you flip the pieces, you need to flip the board too - else the pawns are going the wrong way. So, yes, you can show the initial position flipped, but the reversed FEN is basically useless otherwise. And, as everybody knows, I usually try to publish a usable FEN to plug into SCID/Chessbase, as well as showing the board. Plus - the castling and e.p extra components aren't treated. And if included the reversed FEN just looks confused. * * * * *
So, the main question remains for <chessgames>... Can you add a board-flip capability?
* * * * *
Ideally, I'd love to be able to have the functionality that <ChessTempo> allows - i.e. both a starting position, and a playable movelist. (On <CT> I found a hack that the board could be flipped with the FEN first-move character - which could be overridden by the movelist. I'm not sure I'd recommend this hack for general usage though.) |

We've already got it, e.g. The Opening Explorer and pgn4web and CVD -- what context are you asking this for, the posting of FEN diagrams? That's the one case where I'd wonder if it's a good idea. |

| Jun-24-16 | | zanzibar: <That's the one case where I'd wonder if it's a good idea.> Why?
If it's a good idea in one place, it's a good idea here too. Symmetry - it's a beautiful thing. |
|
| Jun-24-16 | | zanzibar: Think of it as a baby-step towards giving users the ability to post playable snippets. See ChessTempo for many good examples.
Plus it streamlines the comments by embedding all the moves into a showboard. You only see it when you want it. |
|
| Jun-25-16 | | zanzibar: Had a another idea, wonder if anyone thinks it might be useful... Do a search and find a player, e.g.
Andrei Istratescu
OK, I'm looking for a specific game, but I thought this player might just have a few games. Not the case, so... <What about adding a <E-Z Search> filter to a player's game page?> The idea is to make it easy to do additional filtering on the games of a specific player. In this case I could just add the other player <Dourerassou> and not have to go back to the general search page. (Since I'm using Chrome tonight that's desirable - because the form values aren't cached for me, and I have to cut-and-paste both names in.) But, thinking about it, it seems it could be very useful feature since I can imagine looking at one player, X, and wondering about games X--Y, then X--Z, etc. etc. Useful?

 | | chessgames.com: <board-flip capability?> Oh, I misunderstood you. I thought you wanted a way to post an inverted FEN so that a1 is in the upper-right corner. You just want a "flip" button by the diagram to allow the viewer to flip it, is that the idea? Likewise the pop-up could have a flip. I think it will one day, along with the ability to manipulate the pieces in the pop-up. I don't believe we will allow for manipulation of inline diagrams, just for efficiency reasons, but once the pop-up appears you should be able to do as you please. |
|
| Jun-27-16 | | zanzibar: OK, it would be most useful if the poster could pick a side to view, with the read being able to override it (or flip at will). But that would need an extra piece of info for pure FEN. For a short snippet of PGN code a hack is possible, like the unintended <CT> "feature" <CT> mentioned before. Just another item for the "wish list". |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com
Would it be possible to have basic crosstable links for Fischer's US championship games e.g.
Bisguier vs Fischer, 1965
Played in:
"New York ch-USA (1965) "
Can this have a hyperlink to a crosstable like maybe Chessgames.com's own copy of: http://graeme.50webs.com/chesschamp...
Because I think the crosstable must be in the public domain. Cheers, K |
