Aug-28-16 thegoodanarchist: <Annie K.: The spell checker is your browser's feature, not the site's.>

Hey, I learned something new today. Thanks!

Aug-28-16 zanzibar: <HERE IT IS: http://nyc2016.fide.com/#championship>

The graphics just keep getting worser and worser.

 chessgames.com: I actually like the graphical layout, they just need to lower the boom on that cartoonist. If I had their budget, I would hire the Wall Street Journal stippler.

Anyhow, about a forum, yes, coming soon, sometime after the Olympiad starts.

Aug-28-16 thegoodanarchist: Anyone here remember that fellow from Norway who used to post here about global warming, and was in grad school for physics (I think)? He also used to brag about Norway having energy independence, IIRC.

What was his user name? Seems like it started with a z maybe.

Aug-28-16 thegoodanarchist: < chessgames.com: ...Anyhow, about a forum, yes, coming soon, sometime after the Olympiad starts.>

Which one, Summer or Winter?

Aug-28-16 thegoodanarchist: <WannaBe: <thegoodanarchist> 2024 Olympics. =)>

Thank you sir. It must be true because it is an even numbered year :)

Aug-28-16 zanzibar: I can't get this url to work:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greed_(film)

Not even if I try this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greed...;

which surprised me.

Can we someday get real escapes for url's and verbatim mode?

Then I can just remember one or two simple rules instead of one trick after another, Ptolemaic-style.

Every field adopts its own jargon... at the WSJ they're known as hedcuts!

 WannaBe: <Z> You have to escape the right and the left parenthesises...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greed...;

Aug-29-16 zanzibar: <WannaBe> I did, with ( and ) ...

I guess you used the numerical encoded entities then?

Aug-29-16 zanzibar: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greed...;

Trying & l p a r ; and & r p a r ; again.

(Damn, we need verbatim mode)

Aug-29-16 zanzibar: Funny that the & l and & r par works in the message post but not in the url.

 chessgames.com: The following characters cannot be the terminal punctuation marks on URLs:

.
!
?
,
:
;
(
)
and as of recently,
\

This has some ramifications for some URLs, notably the wikipedia ones that end in parens.

If you, like Zanzibar, find yourself using constructs like ( and ) to get around these wrinkles, you might still find there is a problem because of the semi-colon on the above list.

So here's the super meta-pro tip: you can almost always make your URL work by appending %20 to the end of it. e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greed... Works just fine. (Whew.)

"Parentheses."

Aug-30-16 zanzibar: Thx <Abdel>.

Wish I could say I did it deliberately due to a little itff with my spellchecker... but alas, and alack, it was just being sloppy.

BTW- is it alas and alack or alack and alas?

Aug-31-16 Joshka: Are the game scores down ? For the past hour I'm unable to see the game scores. All I see for example is: Torre vs Portisch Olympiad (1974) Pirc Defense: Classical, Schlechter Variation (Bo8) 1-0

To move: Last Move:

And of course I see the Kibitzer's Corner where people talk about the game. Thanks in advance!!

 Annie K.: <Joshka> The games are fine. Sounds like your game viewer is not loading.

Solutions range from simply restarting your browser or restarting your computer, to changing your game viewer, reinstalling your Java, or the <WannaBe> solution: buy a new computer. ;)
