 | | MissScarlett: Yes, I hereby make that request. Think how much it'll annoy the usual suspects. Maybe someone ought to tell <jfq> that there's only room for one sassy, super-smart lady around these here parts. |

 | | Annie K.: Nah, we're already well over quota. Welcome to editorland. :) |

 | | MissScarlett: It was you I had in mind, of course. |

 | | Annie K.: Heh. I think I can see you and <Jess> learning to get along, though... ;) |

 | | MissScarlett: A modus vivendi, you mean? Hmm, just as long as she admits my supremacy. |
|
Oct-23-16
 | | Annie K.: Well, this should be fun! :D |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
Arggh ok I admit your supremacy. I know how good a chess historian you are. That was a fine catch you made on one of the games <zed> had wrong in his first Tournament Promotion- It's rare that such errors are found before a collection is promoted. That resulted in a quick correction, thanks to your diligence, not to mention knowledge. Welcome aboard brah. |

 | | MissScarlett: Thanks, sis,
Happy to be on board, but unhappy to find I can't edit the Event field. For the purpose of normalising tournament collections, that's imperative. |

 | | Tabanus: <MissS> Welcome. Hope you will be a popular editor. <CG> Smyslov - Hübner Candidates Quarterfinal (1983), the 1/2 now seems fine here at "home with Chrome", but not at work today (it was still the "). Anyway, if you don't need Albin - Marco (1901) any longer, I'd like to continue the editing! |

 | | Domdaniel: I can think of at least *five* super-smart female persons who frequent this site. There may well be many more. If I had to name an equal number of super-smart male persons I might experience some difficulty. The trick, of course, is to pay no attention to gender. But I haven't quite achieved enlightenment yet. |
|
| Oct-24-16 | | zanzibar: Oh lordy, <MissS> an editor?! Will wonders never cease?
PS- Yes, I think editors should be able to adjust all the PGN fields of games not already belonging to a <CG> published tournament. As long as a good audit trail is kept.
It would be nice to be able to just submit one set of tags to be distributively applied over a set of GID's. You know, just another variant on the oft-mentioned idea of bulk submission. * * * * *
<Tab> are you tracking the encoding you use on the different machines/browsers? E.g. on Chrome go to the triple-bar main menu -> More tools -> Encoding. In particular, check whether you have UTF-8 or Windows-1252 encoding. Might be worth noting. |
|
| Oct-24-16 | | mckmac: <Dom> Ahem. 'A hit, a palpable hit!' We all know you're a bit of a ladies man, mate. Just try not to be so darn smug about it, willya? *-) |
|
Oct-24-16
 | | Annie K.: <zanz> you're our only holdout now... come on, why don't you just agree and get it over with? ;p Yeah, it's obviously an encoding issue. :) |
|
Oct-25-16
 | | Tabanus: UTF-8 looks like this on my screen, and Windows-1252 repairs Hübner only: GM Smyslov 2595 ˝ ˝ ˝ 1 ˝ ˝ ˝ ˝ 0 ˝ ˝ ˝ ˝ ˝ 7
GM Hbner 2625 ˝ ˝ ˝ 0 ˝ ˝ ˝ ˝ 1 ˝ ˝ ˝ ˝ ˝ 7 |

 | | chessgames.com: I just compared the text of Smyslov - Hübner Candidates Quarterfinal (1983) with Albin - Marco (1901), they both have the exact same entity for the ½ symbol, aka ½ aka ½. So it's a mystery why your browser likes one of them (some of the time) and not the other. It might be a prudent idea to start to use ½ everywhere we want to see the ½ symbol. I'm not advocating that editors start using it, but it could be a kind of post-processing step. My logic that that a browser may use the wrong encoding for ½ but it cannot possibly misinterpret ½. |
|
Oct-25-16
 | | Tabanus: <it cannot possibly misinterpret & frac12> I did that on Albin - Marco, and left the other as is (for now). We can also use = again, as earlier, and have the total score as 7.5 instead of 7½. |

Can we please have a forum for the <2016 WORLD CADET CHAMPIONSHIPS>? The super-prodigy Pragga... is leading the Open U-12 section with 6/6 and may be on the verge of beating Karjakin's record for youngest GM. Thanks.

 | | chessgames.com: <I did that on Albin - Marco> But you made a critical mistake, you wrote ½
instead of
½
I am amazed it displayed correctly. I just added the semicolons. Anyhow, my idea was not to make editors change their ways, just to make the software automatically replace ½ with ½ so that editors don't need to worry about it. <Cadets> That's great, we often don't pay attention to that but I'd he happy to get the games if we have a future WCC in the making. |

|
Oct-25-16
 | | Tabanus: Hey, & #189 works too without the semicolon! And of course without the space between & and #189 ;) A huge table with lots of & frac12's may be hard to edit? Maybe not. |

| Oct-27-16 | | scout118: <chessgames.com> You should intervene! <Note re.: Russian Championship Round 11: Pick Three - since nobody bet on the correct result (White-Black-White), I paid off the only line that had two out of three results right, White-Draw-White, as per site policy.> With all due respect. this absolutely doesn't make any sense. You should refund all bets, make everyone whole and void the undeserved rewards for the non-winners! |
|
Oct-27-16
 | | chessgames.com: <With all due respect. this absolutely doesn't make any sense.> I'll talk to Annie to find out exactly what happened, but it's true, the 2-out-of-3 rule is the ChessBookie! policy when nobody hits the pick-3. This is how actual parimutuel gambling establishments settle bets where there would otherwise be no winners. |
