<tpstar: "Never miss a check, it might be mate" is bad advice and should be removed from your teaser list. Anyone who has ever run a junior event remembers games when someone kept checking the enemy King, believing they are gaining bonus points like a video game, without making any progress and ultimately leading to a 50-move draw.> Still worse, they will often do things like playing 3. Qh5+, g6 4. Bb5+?, c6. I've always made a point of warning my students (back when I was teaching) to avoid such <bounced checks>. ∞ |

<WannaBe: Re: Print the legendary quote, not the factual quote.I was never called (a) Wascally Wabbit, it was due to Yosemite Sam & Elmer Fudd's lisp. They're from the same family tree as Daffy and Sylvester. Swear, just ask our dad, Mel. =))>
That's "wascawwy."
If anyone here should know that, it's you. :-D

| Feb-23-17 | | whiteshark: <chessgames.com> Could you check Huebner vs Miles, 1998 When I click on the <view> link it downloads a file 'nph-chesspgn'. I also see a strange comment </4,Ra6-b6,Qa4> on my screen which seen the only annotation. |

 | | WannaBe: <whiteshark> Nothing unusual for me, I also checked two other random games' PGNs; what browser you using? (And PC's operating system? Or are you using a mobile device? What's your credit card number and expiration date?) |

What's up with the correction slips? Nothing has been done for three weeks. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Stonehenge> I told Sargon to put your event related corrections on hold, because I'm working on a system that will facilitate easy fixing of such issues and your corrections are fertile material for testing. So don't think you're being ignored or wasting your effort, quite the opposite -- you've got our attention and we're going to have a major improvement with those types of edits. |

Long overdue (channeling my inner <MissS>) <Sargon>, btw, is now a baseball. My current avatar is in his/her memory. |

 | | WannaBe: <CG.com> So glad you saw the episode, for chess fans like us, to get the treatment from Matt Groenig and M. Carlsen is quite a nod. I see that <Z> have gone from spaceman astronaut to Egyptian hieograph, hyerographics, hileographics, heeeeeeliographics. Cave paintings!! There. =) |

 | | chessgames.com: <Yes, but he has put *all* my corrections on hold.> Really? I'll look into it. I might have not explained myself well. In any case, don't worry: nothing is lost. < whiteshark: <chessgames.com> Could you check Huebner vs Miles, 1998> That's very odd, I had the same experience you did, with an Apple Safari browser. When I removed the </4,Ra6-b6,Qa4> garbage from the end it worked. As a test, I put it back into the PGN, and suddenly it misbehaved again. I can't think of how that could be, so I tested it from the command line, and everything seems to be working, but the desktop browser still handles it bizarrely. I even tried sticking that text in a different game to see if it would break the "view" link, but it didn't. I'm stumped. If you ever find another game that does that, let me know. <Simpsons> Did Magnus do his own voice on that episode? It sounded just like him but I didn't notice his name in the closing credits. |

But what's this Sven and Øen business?!
Don't tell me <CG> has been shown up by wikiSimpsons. |

| Feb-25-17 | | Boomie: <CG> Having Intellisense on the Search box would be nifty. Not that it would be any more efficient, but it's a smart feature that folks are used to having. |

 | | chessgames.com: You mean the way it could fill in "Kasparov" if you start to type "Ka", then switch to "Karpov" when it sees "Kar", then turn into Karjakin when it sees "Karj" — is that what you mean? I agree, that would be great.
We're trying to find a good purpose for the old Chessgames server, which is still a very beefy computer in spite of being many years old. Doing computations like that (without slowing down the main server) would be a good use of resources. |

 | | Penguincw: How about this for a suggestion as well: autocorrect spelling. For example, let's say I'm searching for Nepomniachtchi, but I mis-type 1 letter or something. The feature could then say "Do you mean 'Nepomniachtchi'?" (of course, don't assume that that name is mistyped, just suggest it if it looks like a typo). Unfortunately, just typing in "Ian" in the EZ search shows up Ian Rogers. search "Ian" |

Like the Wiki search box without the ginormous list. I guess I was showing my age with that "Intellisense" gibberish. |
