Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Domdaniel: <Insane Olde Batte> You think so? Perhaps Captain Beefheart was right when he said "There are only twelve people in the world and five of them are hamburgers".

Domdaniel: <Insane Olde Batte> Welcome! Since you are a *new member* I'll give you some time to "settle in".

Then you may see that I'm not *trying* to fool anyone -- they're all perfectly able to do that on their own.

OK, so I sometimes help out a little.

Aug-21-08  Red October: She was taught chess by Ole Nimzo
From the hypermodern school
She played Nc6 to my 1.e4
And said it's something I should know

She said it's good for one's Karma
With Bishops in fianchetto
And carried on without a pawn or
A center like we used to do

She opened 1..Nf6
And played Bb4
She then played Nb8!
But she wasn't done yet
She played her rook to the edge
And didnt move her pawns yet
But I was in zugzwang

[Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum Bum]

She was taught chess by Ole Nimzo
From the hypermodern school
She played Nc6 to my 1.e4

Aug-21-08  WBP: Hello, Mrs. Alekhine!!!
Welcome to Chessgames.com! I hope your enjoy it here.

Here're a couple of pointers:

1. Everyone here hates--really HATES--sock puppets. I'm sure the thought's never crossed your mind, but still...

2. the fine folks that run Chessgames.com love (LOVE!) it when you post risque limericks, those that preferably have lots of sexual double entendre--that kind of thing. They'll even email you to tell you how pleased they are with it!

So enjoy.

Hello <Dom>!!!!

Domdaniel: <Bill> I don't think that *everybody* hates sock puppets. I don't, for example, even though poor old <IdleNomad> got lost in cyberspace.

Anyway, what do I know? Apparently I'm not fooling anyone. Does this mean that <I> am the suckpoppet?

A clerical carving named Bill
As a Bishop was over the hill
But placed on a chessboard
He shot and he scored
And gave kibitzers many a thrill.

Domdaniel: We won't mention those who play checkers
Old-fashioned curmudgeonly feckers
They're caught in a draught
Cut down, fore and aft
And solved by computerized wreckers.

In a world of their own
To some it might seem creepy what they do
The neighbors on the right
Sit and watch them every night
I bet you'd do the same if they was you."

Yes, well, Zappa had us nailed there, I think. *Let's Make the Water Turn Black* from 'We're Only in it for the Money', sometime around 1967.

It's pronounced "lude" and "laked" actually.

She's a meddling old chatterbox and I'd appreciate it if you stopped encouraging <User: Mrs Alekhine>, as she is trying to steal all my friends, and she's also stealing my "schtick".

Plus she knows NOTHING about chess.

jessicafischerqueen: <<Jess> You can take take Karekare.>

sigh

Ok you CAN fool me I guess.

I can't figure this one out.

HELP!

"Kare" (carray) means "GET OUT OF HERE!" in Korean, so I'm stuck on this one.

Also, Korean people habitually repeat a word for emphasis.

"Here" (yogi), would be "Yogi! Yogi!"

"yes" (neh) would be "Neh! Neh!".

And, best of all, everyone in Korea knows one English expression--

"same same."

IE- "taxi, hot dog, pizza, bus, subway," are all "same same."

There is no Korean word for these things.

Oh and "allergy" is also "same same."

Meaning that Koreans don't believe in allergies. Since there is no Korean word for "allergy."

There is also no Korean word for "alcoholism."

YOU DO THE MATH

I was suggesting you could take him.
