Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Aug-25-08  achieve: <Don't let it bring you down.> That is the crux.

You'll always run into headwind at times, so why not choose to walk the other way?

Because we adhere to directness, principles, and plain good manners.

Sometimes it snows, and things get buried, sometimes it rains, and will wash the stains away, but something in our mind will always stay. (Maybe you know the song: Sting - Ellas Danzan Solas)

<Jess> I'll email you about 'double standards' re another matter, soon. (I wanted to leave it, but it's near impossible).

And then we say: Chin up and cheer up; and move on.

Aug-25-08  achieve: <Dom> Please delete my two previous posts, because except for the first sentence, it's too hazy because it lacks the proper context.

I'll try to write something supportive and a little more detailed to Jess in an email.

Just a damn pity it's all just so energy consuming, if you let it.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> and <Niels>

Thank you so much for your public support for me and condemnation of <User: mckmac's> erratic and unacceptable recent posts.

I just sent you both emails, but please ignore them, as you both seem to have read them before you got them.

????

Ok you can both read my mind.

I'm very glad about that.

So please disregard my emails.

Heh.

Aug-25-08  achieve: <Jess> Yep, just gave a short reply, but will get back to you.

  Domdaniel: <Jess> Cheers, my deah.

<Niels> I deleted the middle one. I kinda like the other one, but if you insist...

If I "accidentally" join the House of Lords because of this, the masses will tear my limb from limb. But I'm sure martyrdom [sic] is a rewarding career opportunity.

Aug-25-08  achieve: <Dom> It's Ok - just leave that one.

heh

Domdaniel: <Jess> Sorry about that. It's not that I didn't believe you -- I just hadn't seen the latest depths of viciousness plumbed by mckmac.

I've now had a look round. Branko's observation that this person needs 'professional help' is apposite.

I'll back you up in any way you think fit. This is actually nothing like our own past misdemeanours -- it's all much more personal and offensive and sicko.

Domdaniel: <mack> Was A.D. Woozley the same chap who invented The Woozle? An Opening so bizarre that I've forgotten how it goes, but it could be related to the Fred.

This in my forum.

I need some real help <Dom>.

Like picking sides kind.

Like supporting me by emailing <Daniel Freeman>.

I don't need any "other" kind of help thanks.

Aug-25-08  Mrs. Alekhine: <Dom>

don't listen to the old bat.

I mean the other one. The not <Insane Olde Batte> old bat.

She's crabby, as I accused her of being in a previous post.

Aug-26-08  brankat: <Mrs. Alekhine> I just finished writing a "short story", actually a fairly lengthy one. Relates to the old bat :-)

More importantly, it's on it's way.

Domdaniel: <Branko> Greetings. So you have Mrs Alekhine's address? Come to think of it, I may have it myself somewhere.

Just as long as the right hemisphere knows what the left one is doing.

Aug-26-08  brankat: <Domdanie> Apparently her ghost is still loitering about around Dieppe area.

But the sad story of the old bat, in the e-mail format, was sent to the appropriate authorities :-)

Aug-26-08  whiteshark: <Domdaniel <"Charming Sharks">> Nice find!

<...the spirit of Moro - the shark god.> Pure coincidence?

Aug-26-08
Premium Chessgames Member
Domdaniel: <whiteshark> The very purest coincidence all round. Or serendipity, maybe. Not just Moro, the whole thing: the 'work' I happen to be doing this week is about artists and shark charmers...

Hey, I just did it. I sang the old ritual song, and the shark surfaced.

In New Ireland - more coincidence - the villagers get stuck in with clubs and spears and - dare I say it? - *machetes* at this point.

But I think we'll skip the violence here.

Aug-26-08  mack: <Dom>

Probably not; my family is depressingly bereft of chess players. This despite the fact that once upon a time most of the women convinced themselves they were Catholic and chose to express their faith through the lack of contraception and nothing else. You'd have thought through simple laws of average there'd be a few ELO points scattered around the family tree, but seemingly not. Of course, most would fairly argue that I'm not exactly a chess player, either.

Did you beat the White Whale through the gate?

Unfortunately, after I finish reorganizing my fora for chess study, your post count may drop to 9000.

PSYCHE!!

heh

Aug-26-08  Mrs. Alekhine: My REAL email is in my profile.

Don't listen to that meddling chatterbox.

I look forward to getting your short story Brankat!

Domdaniel: <Deffi> I believe *all* tax brackets are higher than my current one. What *is* tax, anyhow?

Don't answer that. I've got this far without knowing.

BTW, anyone who is in a position to do so should feel free to delete my posts. I don't really belong in the House of Lords. Maybe I'll delete some pages myself and get back with the little people.

<Jess> Told ya. Your friends rally round by the, er, handful.

What puzzles me is how Frau Alekhine stayed so calm during the crisis. Is she really reliable? Did she even notice anything?
