   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

jessicafischerqueen: well <Ray> did come in on the 50 coolest men in history contest, of course.

BTW, if we've got <moles> in here the best thing to do is stick a garden hose down their holes and turn it on full blast.

Domdaniel: I, um, thought that the *moleskin* was normally snipped off in some kind of ceremony.

I'm clearly confusing it with something else. Uh ... *moccasin*?

Nov-05-08  mckmac: < Moody Mood Washer > If you can't spell my name right, how am I supposed to get very amusing posts like... <<mcmak> You'd be surprised what half a bottle of JD can do to a guy, especially if he is already alone, and hurting inside.> through the < Search Kibitzing > feature. Some of us sometimes have better things to do than trawl around here all day,you know.Just saying. No big deal.Nice weather.
Nov-05-08  Woody Wood Pusher: <mckmac> I thought <mcmak> looked better.

Obama wins!

Is this good or bad?, I have no idea!

But I do know that the higher politicians build up peoples hopes, the further they have to fall when reality hits.

Lets hope Obama finishes his term in office with just as much fanfare...

Nov-05-08  Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: *poor moles*>

Well, they are tasty in chicken en mole.

jessicafischerqueen: Obviously you people have not seen the classic film <Attack of the Mole People>, or you'd be being just a little more respectful!!

  Domdaniel: You Jessica.

I know those numbers are intended to distract me while you get up to something.

Avogadro, innit? Molecules per mole ...

Nov-06-08  Woody Wood Pusher: <JFQ> I used to just press the scientific-constant function on my calculator so I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that should be 6.022 x10^23.

If you are planning on doing any basic chemistry experiments to entertain your class anytime soon, you might like to take this into account...

Otherwise you might have a lot of angry Koreans pestering you about rebuilding their school from the smoking heap of rubble you will probably reduce it to.

jessicafischerqueen: <The Way of the Wood>

Good advice, but thanks to <Obama President> I'm covered!

Now that he is ushering the glorious new age, you'll be pleased to know that

A: He has decreed that all Canadian citizens working in Korea be given 200 American dollars and a shot of whiskey

B: The value of a "mole" is now officially <6023 x 10 to the power of 23>.

Also, <Pi> is now officially rounded to <4>, except in <Kentucky>, where it remains <5>.

I hope that's cleared a few things up.

Go <OBAMA 08!!!>

I love Obama.

Nov-06-08  Woody Wood Pusher: I needed somebody like you around when I was doing just such 'out of the box' thinking myself!

Unfortunately, I was left to wither alone under the scornful gaze of my physical chemistry lecturer...

<I love Obama> is a little too strong for me, I have great admiration for the ideals that his election represents, but I will remain a skeptic until he actually delivers on some of his promises.

Domdaniel: <Miss Canadian Pi> Physical constants are one thing, but what would you do if you metaphysical poet?
Nov-06-08  Woody Wood Pusher: < what would you do if you metaphysical poet?> I would probably tell him to tuck in his shirt and get a real job.

Domdaniel: <Frogspawn Cryptic Research Division> This top secret research finding was suppressed until the election was over, just in case.

OBAMA = OM + BAA

Is he a <Buddhist Sheep>?

Nov-07-08  Woody Wood Pusher: <Dom> 34.Bf8, really, did you have to be so vulgar! Re5 is the gentleman chess-players move!

Seriously though, that position was difficult to fully understand, I spent quite a while on it and still missed your nice <king hunt>, so many variations.....makes me shiver.

Sarah Palin = A sharp nail (in the coffin, perhaps);

or

Sarah Palin = In a rash lap (and ther's a sex scandal for you!)

Nov-08-08  Eyal: <Sarah Palin = A sharp nail (in the coffin, perhaps);

or

Sarah Palin = In a rash lap (and ther's a sex scandal for you!)>

And I can think of several others which also demonstrate why she was so woefully inadequate as a vice-presidential candidate:

Sarah Palin = Sharia Plan (a hidden Radical Islamist message?!)

Sarah Palin = I, Nasal Harp (haven't you noticed the annoying nasal quality of her voice and the flat vowels, which she deploys like a poorly tuned musical instrument?)

Sarah Palin = Anal Parish (Isn't that part of Louisiana?)

Nov-08-08  Eyal: Obama's name, on the other hand, appears to be rather resistant to anagramatization...
Nov-09-08  Red October: maybe something like there's a Boa Ma
Nov-09-08  brankat: Puns, anyone? :-)
