| Dec-31-08 | | Boomie: Hippy Nude Deer!
Danged long haired, nekkid ungulates, spoiling the town! |
|
| Dec-31-08 | | malthrope: <Domdaniel: <Mal, angslo, Deffi ...> [...] About four hours of 2008 remaining here. To any of you precariously balanced between the old year and the new ... just try to fall in the right direction.> Don't forget the all important <one second> to be added before midnight strikes! Could be an arduous task to keep oneself balanced on the correct side of that hair splitting atomic feather... It might take some luck! ~lol~ ;) |

Dec-31-08
 | | Domdaniel: <hair splitting atomic feather> Heh. I'd like one of those myself. Does the <atomic second> sweep around the world like the terminator? |
|
| Dec-31-08 | | brankat: Hi Dom!
May You have a very Happy New Year! |

Dec-31-08
 | | chancho: Happy New Year <Domdaniel>! |
|
| Jan-01-09 | | malthrope: <Domdaniel: <hair splitting atomic feather> Heh. I'd like one of those myself.> I know Dom... It has become quite the chic thing to own one when these pesky time adjustments (this one occurring during a leap year) are being performed simultaneously worldwide! ;) <<<Does the <atomic second> sweep around the world like the terminator?>>> Unfortunately, yes. :( However, in my haste I embellished the precise time of the actual occurrence just a wee bit. Re: <"Don't forget the all important <one second> to be added before midnight strikes!">. Of course, that would be exactly 23:59:60 GMT where time is scheduled to stop dead in its tracks for one full second. It occurs in real time with the master atomic clock at the United States Navel Observatory at precisely 6:59:60 EST p.m. (corresponding to midnight to local times at Greenwich). So, the drama has already passed us... The Universe is quite safe now and yet we are still searching for the elusive "Higgs Boson". There is good news though. ;) It has an iron clad money back warranty that the lucky owners of said <'hair splitting atomic feather'> in that it's guaranteed to tickle! ~lol~ So, they say... :^) - Mal |

Jan-02-09
 | | Domdaniel: <Chancho, Branko, Alcho, Woodo> Thanko. 2009, eh? The *end* of the Noughties already? Where did the decade go? |
|
Jan-02-09
 | | Open Defence: you are left handed too!!!!??? |
|
Jan-02-09
 | | Domdaniel: <Deffi> But of course. The other lot are so dextrous and common. |
|
Jan-03-09
 | | Domdaniel: <The Left-handed Pun> is both gauche and sinister ... and more than a little cack-handed. Can you be a little bit left-handed, or is it like being a little bit pregnant? Can you be ambidextrous without also being ambisinistral? And perhaps <ambitextual> as well? --so many questions-- -- -- |
|
Jan-04-09
 | | Open Defence: as well as ambisexual ? |

Jan-04-09

Jan-04-09
 | | Open Defence: <Where did the decade go?> they are asking the same question about the Money |
|
Jan-04-09
 | | Domdaniel: <Deffi> A Gentleman would decline to answer the <ambisexual> question, even if he knew what it meant, and was really a Gentleman ... Meanwhile, back at the (bank) branch, aka Brancho Notorioso: Q: What's the difference between the Noughties and the Money? A: The Noughties are only nine-tenths gone. |
|
| Jan-05-09 | | malthrope: Dom -- just posted a lengthy double post in response back to your query and comments... <Domdaniel: <Mal> Nice memories of pre-engine CC. I remember my first CC tournament in the 1970s, aged about 16-17. [...] I offered a draw in the dull, drawish one. My opponent (I think he later picked up a master title of some kind) agreed that it was drawn [...] ...Is this an old trick? It showed ratlike cunning, as -- paying zero attention to my moves...> ...over at Woody's place "CHESS N' CHAT". Thought you'd appreciate the heads-up! :^) - Mal PS: I very much enjoyed writing it... It brought back many wonderful memories. :)

|
Jan-06-09
 | | Domdaniel: <Mal> It's all coming back ... moves and conditional moves ... stamps ... re-used envelopes encrusted with stamps ... lots of stamps. |
|
| Jan-06-09 | | malthrope: <Dom: <Mal> It's all coming back ... moves and conditional moves ... stamps ... re-used envelopes encrusted with stamps ... lots of stamps.> Hehehe... Stamps galore! ~lol~ Yes, several of my esteem CC opponents were avid stamp collector's. So, I tried my best to encrust my postcards and letters with rare & unusual stamps for their collections. :) Hope all your ancient CC memories going back to the snail-mail days (expect for that one previously mentioned) are all good! :^) - Mal |

| Jan-06-09 | | achieve: Aaahh! - so it is about more than just chess, eh?
No narrowing it down.
Open up up up up up!
I never collected anything... Mainly because I had everything "saved" inside my freakin brain, which might then disqualify me as a father... Kids want to know, and see, and touch, be taught, move, sleep, be careless, react... Beweeglijkheid.
Is there a point in holding on?
Just keep moving, and check 'n' change direction once in a while... I wish I could just SHUT UP for a period of time.
Are collecting thoughts and stamps mutually exclusive? Brain tissue.
It's all a mystery to me.

 | | Domdaniel: <Niels> -- <I wish I could just SHUT UP for a period of time. > This is not a wish I share.
I've never been much of a collector either, certainly not the kind who catalogues and classifies the collection and tries to plug gaps in it. I accumulate stuff - piles of books and CDs and the odd artwork - but that's different. <Is there a point in holding on?>
There are *three* points in holding on, but I've forgotten two of them and the third is secret. |
|
| Jan-07-09 | | Woody Wood Pusher: I don't collect anything, but my cat does. Mr. Pickles collects all shiny things small enough to be carried away and hidden. Like shower plugs, and chess pieces unfortunately. hhahaha |
|
| Jan-07-09 | | mack: <achieve> Penny Black for your thoughts? <Dom> Do you know much about Michael T. Taussig? I've just come across the lad and it seems like I've known him all my life. |
