Dec-11-10 | | crawfb5: Yes, bongo was a lucky strike as well. I'd often photographed them at zoos and knew the name immediately. I did get "Kastler" last year, again probably just ahead of the usual suspects. |

 | | Annie K.: <craw> thanks for the Multi Links tip - my default and favorite browser is Opera, but I've got about 6 browsers installed, FireFox included. Sounds like this add-on may be worth using FF for the Klu Hunt. The text-only setting, I've been doing since year one... :) |
|
Dec-11-10
 | | Domdaniel: This so-called *present hunt* (then, punster?) is an <Nth nut spree> ... a way to <prune tenths> ... |
|
Dec-11-10
 | | Domdaniel: If I sleep 1/3 of each day, and 2/3 of all clues appear when I'm asleep ... I may switch to sleeping for 16 hours daily. Or I could try going mad. |
|
Dec-11-10
 | | Annie K.: Uh, it's only a game? ;) |
|
Dec-11-10
 | | Domdaniel: It's reversible. The madness, I mean. And it *is* the season for that kind of thing... Anyhoo, I'm off for my beauty sleep. I fully expect to see another batch gone by what I might technically term the morning after. G'nite. |
|
Dec-11-10 | | hms123: <Annie> And it's not like I am going to wear my t-shirt to class any time soon. |
|
Dec-11-10
 | | Annie K.: <Dom> Nite. :)
<hms> why not? It could be an interesting experiment... ;) |
|
Dec-11-10
 | | Domdaniel: < an interesting experiment..>
At the risk of conforming to yet another geeky stereotype - I'm out and I'm modest - I could wear mine on *Stick insects for Chess* day ... Yeah, I thought I was gone too.
;) |
|
Dec-11-10
 | | Annie K.: <Dom: <Yeah, I thought I was gone too.
;) >>
I think there <should> be another clue soon... ;) |
|
Dec-12-10
 | | Domdaniel: <I think there <should> be another clue soon... ;)> *Was* there?
I can't complain too much today. Only one missed overnight, and then I had a fair go at the 'Generations of Short' klu, despite its bifurcations. I took a wrong turn at Marshall, going with the man rather than the Allies. I make the general assumption that, as clues were written in advance, they can't track current events too closely. So 'Anand's last game' might have presented existential problems (as does the pair of twin primes near the top of the gid number range). Hey ho. At some point, if I wait, some genuinely cryptic stuff will arrive, narrowing the field down to the dozen or so of us who speak deep crypto. Plus the entire staff of GCHQ, Mossad, the CIA, the FSB, and the Chinese Remainder Theorem, all of whom lurk under cryptic field-names. |

Dec-12-10
 | | Domdaniel: "Information wants to be free".
No, it doesn't. Back in 1995 (!) Neal Stephenson wrote ('In the Kingdom of Mao Bell') about the Chinese hacker ethic and its utter disinterest in Western notions of individual freedom. "They are rebuilding the individual. We see the future through the binoculars of the people."

The great Western myth, from Plato to Nato ... |

Dec-12-10
 | | Domdaniel: Festin Nu à tout le monde. |
|
Dec-12-10 | | dakgootje: <<dak> If you temporarily change your game viewer to text only, you can check games a bit faster..> hehehe, I know - I thought of that just before the hunt started :D The problem is more that I have only been around during clue #3. For the rest I was either gone or did not notice that there were solvable clues.. |
|
Dec-12-10
 | | Domdaniel: Twaalfuurtje, Dakgootje? |
|
Dec-12-10 | | dakgootje: ...is that a multiple choice question? |
|
Dec-12-10
 | | Domdaniel: Aren't they all? |
|
Dec-12-10 | | dakgootje: Would that mean there are no answers but only further questions? |
|
Dec-12-10
 | | Domdaniel: Ain't it the truth? |
|
Dec-12-10 | | dakgootje: Can we really know if that is the truth? |
|
Dec-12-10
 | | Domdaniel: Why didn't I think of that? |
|
Dec-12-10 | | dakgootje: Are you really asking me to understand you? |
|
Dec-12-10
 | | Annie K.: Hey, isn't that <my> job? ;p <Dom: <<I think there <should> be another clue soon... ;)>*Was* there?> >
Dunno rilly. I played some blitz, checked back at 5:30 my time (3:30 yours) and klu #9 was already solved. <Every time I read 'Sofia rules', I think "well, Judit isn't bad either".> Heh. Me too! |
|
Dec-12-10 | | dakgootje: Do you have a job? :|
Well, they say I'm a psychologist.
I heard yesterday that, over here, the title 'journalist' is not protected anymore either, so de juro I have two jobs. De Jura I like vacation more. |
