 | | Domdaniel: <cormier> That story is very questionable. The 'camel's eye' phrase is much older than the gate in Jerusalem. A translation error is the rational, and most widely accepted, explanation. Be more open to the joy of scepticism.

 | | Domdaniel: <H> Yeah, I was keeping half an eye on the French. I've played 3...dxe4 sometimes but rarely took any pleasure in it. I don't recall seeing Carlsen's g3/Bg2 idea in this line before, but it looks good. It's very hard for Black to get counterplay in the Rubinstein. I'm not the kind of French player who is a masochist at heart. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Thanh Phan> -- < would have many question your sanity, if they didn't before> In my case, they did before. Or else they're a bit slow. But my sanity is quite well, and enjoys quizzes. |
|
| Jul-25-11 | | Ignored: <Domdaniel> I am not on ignore. I did post your message, but it disappeared a few minutes later along with messages from <jessicafischerqueen> and <OhioChessFan>. |
|
| Jul-25-11 | | achieve: Yeah - all in favor of progress, eh?
What a scam.
Really though, this has gotten beyond sanity and Dom has even been "instructed" to try and apply some more. I'm not puzzled, but feel astranged. The "Quiet French Fianchetto" today as well, like clockwork! Carlsen nailed it though. |
|
| Jul-25-11 | | hms123: <Dom> I was more interested in that variation of the French for two reasons: 1) I tried the Rubinstein for a while and didn't mind it at all, and 2) I am currently enamored of the Ft. Knox (which is in that family). I have to say that it is not as much fun as the Winawer and the McCutcheon, but it may be good against really tough opponents. |
|
| Jul-25-11 | | achieve: <H> Nice one. I always found it hard to pick fun with less than tough opponents, though. The fun starts with tough opposition, and then ... Ok, back to
being nice. You'd make a heck of a diplomat. |
|
| Jul-25-11 | | hms123: <niels> Thanks. That's very diplomatic of you. ;-) |
|
| Jul-25-11 | | achieve: heh - well, I was taking a lump off lamont at the Fischer page, my first ever, and whaddayado after that? Compassate, my dear Watson. Compansate. ;)
(I'll be off for a movie in a minute... ) |

 | | Domdaniel: <Ignored> Thanks, I see. AJ seems to think that you are TheFocus in disguise, which seems ludicrous. People don't thank their own sockpuppets for passing on a favour ... well, maybe in AJ's paranoid world. I don't know why I bother with him. I had a flash of sympathy when he revealed that the ghastly Lennonfan had targeted him too. Now I just think they're welcome to one another. |

 | | Domdaniel: A *diplomat* ... ?
Something like a laundromat for dipsomaniacs? Or a vending machine that sells diplomas? |
|

 | | Domdaniel: Back on the subject of the imaginary temperature of imaginary places (where T = [a + ib]°K, obviously) ... the phrase 'go to hell' can often be found in disguised form, as in these lines: <"Go to father", she said
When I asked her to wed
But she knew that I knew that her father was dead.
And she knew that I knew of the life that he'd led.
So she knew that I knew what she meant when she said
"Go to father".>
Then there's physicist Arthur Eddington in 1920, replying to critics who argued that the sun's temperature was not high enough to sustain nuclear reactions: "We do not argue with the critic who urges that the stars are not hot enough for this process; we tell him to go and find a hotter place". |

| Jul-25-11 | | mworld: <I have to say that it is not as much fun as the Winawer and the McCutcheon, but it may be good against really tough opponents.
>
The MacCutcheon is pure fantastic - diplomatic even. |
|
| Jul-25-11 | | mworld: <Thanh Phan: <Domdaniel> Thanks, my search engines didn't revolt this time like they did during my searches for the <sure as stitches> and <chrisowen>'s sayings
About had vertigo after hear of the Norway atrocity ~ Have none idea what to say or think after that, will send prayer for~
>
h[TanPan]: about chris owen and sockpuppets replying to each other, your search will go smoother if you understand the cirumstances surrounding the death of Lady Mondegreen. |
|
| Jul-25-11 | | mworld: <But my sanity is quite well, and enjoys quizzes.> Yes <Domdaniel>, your sanity is swell, and quizzically inclined. =] |

 | | Domdaniel: <Lady Mondegreen>
'They have slain the Earl of Moray
And laid him on the green.'
Scots, eh? This murder mystery clearly took place during a golf tournament. Par for the course. Links are challenging. Didn't the same ballad have a line about "Norway across the foam" ...? Sanity is vanity. And there ain't no Vanity Clause neither. |

 | | Annie K.: <Dom: <I don't know why I bother with him.>> Yes dear, that's one of those things that make me question your sanity. :p But no worries, as none of us are particularly sane in this, our cozy little chessanatorium, anyhoo. Meow.
Cute hellish references there. :)
<mondegreen> - the first new term I learned upon joining the netizenry, back in 2001. |

| Jul-25-11 | | WBP: <Dom> I've just come back after a period of time (let my membership lapse), and I see that some troubling things have happened during the course of the last several months. I've tried to piece together the overall narrative, but I did want you to know that I have been sorry to see all this happen. You and <Jess> were my first friends, here, followed clsely by <Eyal> and <Niels>, and then others. I know she's suffered, too, as has <Niels>. Just wanted to let you all to know my feelings on this.
On a lighter side, although I'm not sure how often I'll be able to get on the site, I've renewed my preemie for two years, carrying into mid-2013. So much for that Mayan Calendar! |
|
| Jul-26-11 | | achieve: <WBP> Much appreciated, Bill, and needless to say I am very happy to hear of your "membership extension"! Pun not initially intended, so I'll be a good boy. A "lengthy-ish" response is in my forum, and thanks once again for your <care> and friendship. |
|
Jul-26-11
 | | Domdaniel: <Bill> Yeah, good to see you back. We had a little psycho trouble. It's unpleasant, but nobody died. |
|
| Jul-26-11 | | WBP: <Dom> Thanks! Great to be back. I hope to spend more time here than in the past, though I have my "appearances" and "disappearances" (Guess I'm kinda like a whale shark, only occasionally seen on the surface. 'Course, that suggests I spend the rest of my time in the depths, but I'm not sure what depths those are!...) |
|
Jul-26-11
 | | Domdaniel: <Bill> Nobody knows the mysteries of the deep. Nerval's lobster did, but it died. Depths are benthic. |
|
| Jul-26-11 | | mworld: if benthic is here, then
-------domdandiel is here |

 | | Domdaniel: I'm just, hic, excuse me, having an imaginary Gammeldansk or three with Bent, hic, Larsen, to drown our Scandinavian sorrows. His at being dead and mine at living to see carnage in Norway. Hic. 'Gammel' means 'old', btw. A certain opening which Bent, hic, Larsen sometimes played is the Gammel-Indische. Hic. |
