 | | Domdaniel: <Ohio> Strange indeed. Maybe a pic of the *young* Elvis would have been more popular. Hard to say, really. "Yun Gelvis ... Yong Elves ... Yin Ehlvest ..."
Yep, hard to say.
I noticed that one of this year's avatar nominees had a big pair of cartoon lips. On one occasion, they posted immediately after me, and I found myself wondering if anyone had a nose to come between us. "Gogol ogled googols of googled go-go gals". |
|
| Jan-10-12 | | hms123: <OCF> Elvis? Really? I thought that was your self-portrait. I do see the resemblance now that you have mentioned it. |
|
Jan-10-12
 | | Domdaniel: <H> Now that you mention it, there are quite a few CG members whom I think of as being just like their portraits. |
|
| Jan-10-12 | | hms123: <Dom> I don't even own a bow-tie. |
|
Jan-10-12
 | | Annie K.: Meow???! |
|
| Jan-10-12 | | harrylime: Can you imagine the Eurovision song contest with the added ingredient of certain countries having other countries placed on 'ignore' ? |
|
| Jan-10-12 | | crawfb5: I am sort of ruff around the edges. |
|
Jan-10-12
 | | Domdaniel: <crawf, Annie, hms + brankat, twinlark...>
People with dog or cat avatars don't necessarily *look* like that ... but they seem to score well on the empathy/intelligence test. <harry> That might even *improve* Eurovision. I'd vote for three minutes of Russian silence. |

Jan-10-12
 | | OhioChessFan: <Dom: <<mack> Of course you have. People like you and me tend to notice these things.
It's only when 'common sense' or 'the bleeding obvious' is thoroughly dissected that, er, one gets any pleasure from it. Where was I?>
You were talking about how common sense and the bleeding obvious have to be thoroughly dissected to get pleasure from it. |
|
| Jan-10-12 | | frogbert: actually, when it comes to "best avatar" i think the picture in isolation is the least important factor. if i'm not alone to feel that away it might explain the lack of success for your elvis avatar, ocf. although, when i come to think of it, you've provided a good number of enjoyable song <lyrics> (to well-known melodies) for various team games, in particular for the pogonina game. "best avatar" to me would be one with the best match to both 1) nickname, and
2) kibitzer's personality/style
of course there might be other puns lurking, for instance that sq's santa hints at him basically winning all his premium memberships until now (saying that he's smart - or cheap - depending on your personal interpretation) dom's avatar probably indicates him being in touch with his female self, but more importantly it says that he <sees> everything - so beware. of course, if i were not a cultural primate i should've recognized the origin of that all-knowing eye too. |

Jan-10-12
 | | Domdaniel: <Ohio> -- <You were talking about how common sense and the bleeding obvious have to be thoroughly dissected to get pleasure from it.> Do excuse me. I've been giggling at that for, oh, must be *hours*. I don't, hmpfnk snork, think the decibel count ... you know Count Dracula's brother, Count Decibel? Big fan of the bleeding obvious, he is ... and dissection too, strangely enough ... um, I don't think it qualified as sheer insensate lollery. But it were close. |
|
Jan-10-12
 | | Domdaniel: <frog> The truth about the Eye ... long since buried deep in the CG archives, possibly on a live game between Morphy and Staunton ("I say, he's pushed the King's pawn to the fourth! I may win some chess-guineas, chaps...") ... and certainly long forgotten by *me* ... is that it was an impulsive response to a trivial joke. Something like, say:
NN: Are you looking at me?
Dom: I am *now*
*flashes newly discovered eye avatar*
I'm reasonably sure that I didn't notice its apparent femaleness or its mascara until later. But doesn't everyone go through that cross-dressing phase? The point, of course, is that I *kept* it, thus validating all psychological interpretations. Except the Freudian ones, which are deranged by definition, except when they're merely daft. |
|
Jan-10-12
 | | Domdaniel: <Quylthulg> Also ... funnier ... and funnier ... and funnier. Something old, something new, something borrowed ... it's a keeper. I. must. not. Lol. *too*. Lollardishly. I noticed earlier, I think, that the poet of the Burroughsian cut-up plus word association football announced his intention to 'roger' a certain life master. I think it was meant as an allusion to the three Toon Rabbits: Roger, Bugs and Jessica. Ah, word association football. We tru kings of Leyton Orient are. Hand me some statistical tables concerning, oh, smothered mate during the first week of marriage. Anything to keep the laughter at bay. |
|
| Jan-11-12 | | frogbert: you need some sleep, dom. :o) |
|
Jan-11-12
 | | Domdaniel: <frog> So do you, unless you're a day ahead of me. I should have mentioned that The Eye signifies that I am a <Life Peer>. I'm usually too modest to mention this, but ... yes, I need some sleep. G♘ all. |
|
| Jan-11-12 | | frogbert: <So do you, unless you're a day ahead of me.> in this case i was, but that was rather accidental. :o) |

 | | OhioChessFan: <Ohio> -- <You were talking about how common sense and the bleeding obvious have to be thoroughly dissected to get pleasure from it.> <Dom: Do excuse me. I've been giggling at that for, oh, must be *hours*.> I'd put that one in my top 10 of all time list. I think Frogspawn is the only place on the site that it'd be appreciated. It puts a lot of pressure on a person to say something funny and expect only one person on the site to grasp it. I'm glad to know I'm not alone in giggling for hours over kibitzes. |
|
Jan-11-12
 | | OhioChessFan: <I should have mentioned that The Eye signifies that I am a <Life Peer>.> I thought that would be a LIFE Peer. A gerry of your peers. Here's peering at you, kid. I should have gotten more sleep. |
|
Jan-11-12
 | | Annie K.: <Ohio: <I should have gotten more sleep.>> Definitely. Posting things like <...and expect only one person on the site to grasp it> is not the wisest of decisions, as there are at least a dozen regulars of this forum I can think of who surely easily got it, and, like me, simply didn't see any need to comment. Watch it. :p |
|
| Jan-11-12 | | achieve: <is not the wisest of decisions, as there are at least a dozen regulars of this forum I can think of who surely easily got it, and, like me, simply didn't see any need to comment.> Is it? - though I agree, you could have not commented, stuck to that, and have left it to the two boys. Men. <OCF> feels he isn't famous for his clever light brand of humour, but surely he was generously rewarded "this time." Times for "wisest decision making," eh? Think again.
I'm sure most of the regulars would just have left it between the two. Probably, hopefully, it's darn old me who is the last one to address this. Take care, and have fun. Avoid the wise-thing if you got the chance. |
|
| Jan-11-12 | | mack: <But doesn't everyone go through that cross-dressing phase?> Yes. |

I should have said only one forum. I apologize and offer some catnip as a token of remorse. |

Jan-11-12
 | | Annie K.: <Ohio> Heh. That's purrfect. ;) <mack> indeed. I still find myself wearing trousers all the time. :p |
