jessicafischerqueen: Hey you guys I accidentally invented a chess variant called <Jessica Random Chess>.

It really sucks!

Me and <Wilson> just finished the first, and hopefully the last ever, game of <JRC> in his forum.

Have a look!

May-28-07  WBP: <Plato> and <Danielpi> Greetings. You have both managed to express, in rather uncertain terms, a relatively thorough contempt for one another. You have had, apparently, three substantial spats by now (two of which predate my time on this site), and the end to the conflict is by no means clear.

I can understand this. You are both extremely intelligent, brilliant, and, one might say, (without it being pejorative or negative), intellectually arrogant. You are cut from the same cloth, and both remind me of many super-sharp students--most now safely tenured and publishing--whom I encountered in graduate school. I have read many of your respective posts on several different forums and over the course of many weeks, and find you both compelling and fascinating observers.

It is with this in mind that I offer you both a new forum--my own <SeeSee> forum--to continue your discussion. <SeeSee> is a sock puppet of mine, conceived only to be a foil to me and my other sock puppet <Blako>. <Jess> has extended herself to you both--and make no mistake, you’ve been both very gracious with her. But I think her wonderful forum is perhaps not the place to prosecute your differences. (And I dare make this known: I was once myself asked not to post on her forum, due to a misunderstanding [one thoroughly understandable].)

The <SeeSee> forum will allow you both the opportunity to say whatever you wish--the only judge will be Chessgames.com, not I; I’m too busy trying to manage my own place. I have no feelings on managing things, so to speak. I’m going to open that forum after posting this message, so please consider this offer.

Very best to you both, Bill

As I posted above in my forum, I almost missed out on the chance to get to know you. I didn't name you, but since you named yourself, I figure it's ok now.

May-28-07  WBP: <Jess> I have a short--very short--thing I wrote that I'd love to post in your forum (my forum's the slop sink of this site). It's an upbeat, parable-like thing that has religious undertones. Many will find their life imroved by it. May I?

jessicafischerqueen: <Bill> btw I already started a fight in the new <SeeSee> forum!!

I'm very excited about his forum.

I predict it becomes the weirdest forum in CG.com history.

Kudos to your secret plan of <world domination>!!

May-28-07  danielpi: <Plato><Many of the ones that I keep repeating are points that you are unable to find an adequate response to because they are completely true.>

Oh yeah? Heh. Okay. Once again, thanks for the info.

<But the difference between us is that I'm able to move on after arguments>

Obviously.

<You go on pretending that you don't care about me and that it didn't get under your skin, all the while demonstrating an utter inability to put it behind you.>

Oh yes. Yes, I admit it. You've gotten under my skin, my dear Plato. And... and... I love you. There! I've said it! Wasn't it always obvious!? I cannot help but imagine the thick mane of luxuriant hair that covers your manly neanderthal brow. The way you utter sweet nothings. The way you know just how to judge yourself as innocent, victorious, and intelligent, and then express it like a fact, further vindicating your innocence, intelligence, and victory. I was ever so impressed with your CV. How dashingly you instruct us all with your knowledge of philosophy 101.

Hah! Okay, now listen carefully, because if you repeat yourself again, you will only provide further proof of your inability to comprehend basic English sentences.

1) I enjoy making you squirm- yes, it is a sadistic streak, and no, I have no intention of correcting it. What're you gonna do about it, eh? Eh?

2) I have a life outside of CG. I have a lot of work, which means that I'm not often able to sit around posting for long periods of time. So what? What the hell does that prove? When I get back to CG, someone else bring you up, and I respond. Does that in any way prove that I've been stewing about you? I have a million things to do, but I spend all that time thinking about a spat I had with a person that I regard as a total moron on a chess website? That makes sense to you? This is a coherent chain of inference? And even if it were, who cares?

3) For the sake of argument, let's say that I did start it, and let's say that I'm a bigger jerk, and let's say that I do attack you unprovoked. Mind you, I'm not granting a single point, but if I did, SO WHAT?

I mean, WHAT is your point? You were "attacked", and so <Plato> bravely rides in to rescue <Plato>? Fine. Say that you're not an idiot, and be done with it. What else is there to say?

Look, look: Plato is a broken record. Plato is a nose-picker. Plato is a liar. Plato is a bully. Plato is a ugly fugly. Which of the following are you choosing to employ:

A) "Am not!"

B) "No! You are!"

C) "You're a big meanie."

This is tough. Which of these is the most mature? Heh. Have you decided yet? You're a jerk. I'll say that you're a jerk. And you can either pick one of the three options or shut up. You know, before you take it for granted that I should follow the rules of your absurd little "truce" offer, might I remind you the rules of my "truce" offer, which incidentally predated yours. I realize you never agreed to it, but then I never agreed to your "rules" either, so that's evidently an irrelevant consideration.

The proposed rule was that neither party ever addresses the other directly. Of course, this would deprive you of your precious right to "defend" yourself. And that would be unacceptable, since you must defend yourself. You're doing admirably in that regard. Keep it up. Really, bravo. You're scoring points all over the place. That bit about how I started it. That burns. Zing. Ouch. I really should've just ignored the mention of your name, but I had the audacity to comment. And to comment negatively! Heavens to Betsy, how could I expect you NOT to respond!? Surely, you are in the right. Keep at it, tiger. You're really getting to me now! You're totally winning! I'm on the verge of collapse! Can you feel it coming? Post 20 epic-length kibitzes in a row, and I'll just crack. Go for it, man!

May-28-07  WBP: <As I posted above in my forum, I almost missed out on the chance to get to know you. I didn't name you, but since you named yourself, I figure it's ok now> Big time blush--but you were still %100 correct in your actions, make no mistake about it.

One thankful to be a part of it all.

<your secret plan of <world domination>!!> Just you wait!!

BTW, I have had in my life, between vinyl and CDs, over forty versions of <Elektra>

May-28-07  danielpi: <WBP> Thanks for the offer. I just don't think there's too much more to say on the topic. I think you summed it up quite well:

<You have both managed to express, in rather uncertain terms, a relatively thorough contempt for one another.>

I would nix the "relatively", but at any rate, I just can't imagine what else he has to say to me, or I to him. In the event that this looks like it might get to be a prolonged argument (about what, I wonder), I'll be the first to move to <SeeSee>.

Thanks for the compliments, but they are certainly misplaced. I'm neither particularly intelligent nor brilliant. To the contrary, despite whatever illusory evidence may suggest otherwise, I'd say that my intellect ranges somewhere from average to dumb, and <Plato> is far dumber than I.

May-28-07  Plato: <danielpi> Ok, for now I'm not going to even respond to your most recent post. I wrote a response but at least for now I will not post it. I will offer this truce right away so that you know I'm not just doing it after getting the last word. Please consider your response:

------------------

That is an amusing poem. I remember <Bufon> too... I took him much too seriously and had my share of arguments with him on the Leko page (finally got him to stop calling Leko "Drewko").

Under different circumstances things could easily have turned out differently between us. Like you, I am a big fan of Kramnik and I was one of his most outspoken supporters during and after the match with Topalov. We share similar interests (film, philosophy, chess).

I am not asking you to respect me, if that is no longer possible for you, and it doesn't bother me what you think so long as you keep your insults to yourself. I would appreciate if we could both stop insulting each other from now on. I think you got a bad (and perhaps somewhat mistaken) impression of me early on which stuck, and likewise for me regarding you, because IMO we both reacted in an oversensitive manner to criticism and ridicule.

Please consider what I'm saying and refrain from answering with sarcasm or further ridicule. As you know, we both tend to respond to insults, so they generally lead to more unwanted bickering between us. I would really prefer to end these feuds once and for all. Perhaps it's possible for us to be on better terms with each other? The tone of your response to this message will let me know. (If you choose to respond with sarcasm, it's an indication to me that you'd prefer for these arguments to continue, and I will post my response to your previous comment and we'll have to find some other way of ending it).

May-28-07  danielpi: <Plato><What do you try to achieve each time you behave that way?>

A witch hunt, last time. T'was much fun to watch.

<So far you have been unwilling to apologize for anything during our exchanges. Do you really consider this mature behavior on your part?>

Not particularly. I'd apologize if I felt there was anything that I judged to warrant an apology. And that's the end of that topic. Ummm... I guess I'm sorry that you have access to oxygen.

May-28-07  WBP: <Danielpi> Understood, and much good luck to you, man. You endured my drunken rant one night with great patience, and I'm very thankful for that, believe me.

<I'm neither particularly intelligent nor brilliant> No, sorry, but this is not true.

And yes, should you wish to take things to this forum (SeeSee), there is no problem.

Very best wishes, Bill

May-28-07  Plato: <WBP> Your comment was well-written and right on target, except for the "brilliant" remark which certainly doesn't apply to me.

Unlike <danielpi>, however, I wouldn't describe my own intellect as ranging from "average to dumb," and I somehow don't get the impression that that's what <danielpi> honestly thinks of himself either. Nor do I consider <danielpi> much dumber than myself, regardless of what he happens to think of me. I don't consider him dumb at all -- I think he is intelligent. My only criticism is that he is often poorly mannered and arrogant, at least in our exchanges, and the same can be said about myself sometimes.

May-28-07  Plato: <danielpi: I'd apologize if I felt there was anything that I judged to warrant an apology.... I guess I'm sorry that you have access to oxygen.>

?

Am I the only one who finds this comment unwarranted and very disturbing, especially coming on the heels of my post right above it?

May-28-07  danielpi: <Plato><Perhaps it's possible for us to be on better terms with each other?>

I've got enough friends.

<Under different circumstances things could easily have turned out differently between us.>

Perhaps. I held my fire for a few posts on the Karpov page, when we had first contact, and I certainly felt like you were attacking me (a stranger) at full force. I'm not doing a "you started it" thing- I'm just saying that this was not the best introduction.

<I would appreciate if we could both stop insulting each other from now on.>

That's actually a pretty fair offer, but why not just ban directly addressing one another? I don't like to censor myself, and it's not the insults so much as the prolonged bickering that anyone really minds. As long as we don't directly respond to one another, I think it's probably fine. If you mention me in a forum, I won't be there the next day playing tit for tat. Likewise, I'd like to reserve the right to badmouth you at my leisure, without any threat of a prolonged ping-pong match.

It produces the same result, no?

As you are clearly an observant individual, you will have noticed that I don't quote from your most recent message, as I was responding to a prior message.

I find it neither disturbing nor unwarranted. I find it apropos, appropriate, and witty. Of course, I seem to find all my comments witty- admittedly a mark of vanity.
