| May-29-07 | | chessmoron: You may also get "The Unknown" (1927 film) starring Lon Chaney. It is a silent horror film that is about 63 minutes long. |

| May-29-07 | | Eyal: <Jess> Following your request for classic insults from yesterday: "In Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Canada has at last produced a political leader worthy of assassination" (Irving Layton). Actually, was this an insult? I'm not absolutely sure. |
|
| May-29-07 | | WBP: <Jess> I sent you an email today--hope it got there! I've always loved Canada, even as a little kid (I was a big Black Hawk hockey fan in the '60s, but loved it when they played a Canadian team, 'cause I loved the Canadian National Anthem ("O Canada") so much more than our "To Anacreon in Heaven"/ stars and stipes thing. John Ferguson of the Canadians became my favorite player, and I rooted for them (The Canadians) against so many teams (especially the Bruins). Edmund Wilson says somewhere that if the US founding fathers could come alive, they'd recognize Canada as the country they'd envisaged (I agree). BUT (and sorry for this), big insult of Canada from Al Capone: "Canada? I don't even know what street Canada's on." Sorry! But I've spent many years booking up on Mob lore (worked in too many Mob restaurants. P.S. I'll be in Banf in late July for a week. Ever been there? Any recommendations? |

| May-29-07 | | WBP: <Eyal> <Americans are benevolently ignorant about Canada, while Canadians are malevolently well informed about the United States> Amen to that! (Though I might switch the adverbs.) |

| May-29-07 | | Dr.Lecter: <jess> You there? Want to come watch the Cle-Pis game on <chessmoron>'s forum. I think they're tied now. I'm in need of another Cleveland supporter. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Ack:
1. Correspondence opponents- I will only be able to post my moves on Thursday-- I have an editing contract due and I've been buggering around too much gabbing and "playing chess" on the Net. 2. <Canadian Fun Facts> are not always facts, but the last one was.
Feel free to GOOOBLE them.
3.For those who disdain draws--
I just got myself in the most unpleasant position and my opponent was squeezing the life out of me. Two hours of torture. I wanted to resign many, many times. But he finally made a mistake- and I found a draw by forced repetition. And I feel like I just won the World Series!!!
Yay! 1/2 for me!!
God the adjectives "pleasant" and "unpleasant" are very well suited to describing chess positions. It's the first decent game I played in 3 days, I've been in a tailspin psychologically and very underconfident. This was a confidence booster, even though a tie. |
|
| May-29-07 | | WBP: <Jess> a hundred billion apologies, but I forgot to congatulate you on your graduation/new degree (with honors, no less!). Bask in the academic glory! Also, very glad you pulled your game out. |

I got your Fable- Congrats on getting it DELETED heh. <Niels> really wants to read it. Should I forward it to him, or did you already send it to him? |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Eyal> they Hated <Trudeau> in Quebec and the Western Provinces. Layton was a Montrealer of course.
But <Trudeau> was elected PM <4 times>. Same for <Mackenzie King>, <FDR>, and who else? |
|
| May-29-07 | | Eyal: Oh, Congrats on Cavs' win. With that and the results of the candidates' matches today, your future groveling-wise doesn't look so bleak at the moment. |
|
| May-29-07 | | WBP: <<Niels> really wants to read it. Should I forward it to him, or did you already send it to him?> <Jess> Do please forward this to <Niels> (and anyone else who may want it), as I don't have his (or anyone else's) email. Go Cavs!

Have you seen Nicole Kidman's "The Others?"
"The Descent" was also pretty good. |

| May-30-07 | | brankat: <jessie> <just got myself in the most unpleasant position and my opponent was squeezing the life out of me. Two hours of torture. I wanted to resign many, many times. But he finally made a mistake- and I found a draw by forced repetition.> I assume You are talking about a Chess game here :-)
Anyway, the other day I forgot to ask about your school thing. Is it now getting to it's final stage? If so, any plans for later? Perhaps even as an undesirable notion as "work"? Assuming You have any spare time. Looks like You have notched 22 pages in this forum in last 3 days! Take care. |
|
| May-30-07 | | achieve: <and I found a draw by forced repetition.> "repetition" is NOT a word!
It should be:
repetivity
or repetiveness
PLEASE write correctly in your native tongue. |

| May-30-07 | | achieve: <dak> It was a wink to the Plato/Pi debate.. ;-) |
|
| May-30-07 | | dakgootje: Yeah, true! I missed that whole debate! What was it about - for with very quickly scanning the posts it looked more like a rant versus eachother than a discussion =/ |
|
| May-30-07 | | achieve: <dak> It was a wink to the Plato/Pi debate.. ;-) Very interesting read btw..
Good luck on your last exam! |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Branko>
Heh. Yep it was a chess game. I lost a string of tough games and lost confidence-- the draw today was the first decent game I played in three days. So I feel better. Psychology has so much to do with chess. Also, I think one game a day and not every single day is in order. But funny how a draw can feel like a victory.
Tbanks for asking! I have my degree now (well the work is finished, I will have the "Paper" diploma soon). I'm doing an editing contract for money, it's due Thursday night so I won't be around much. After that, I'm off in September to teach English in either Korea or Japan. In the summer, I plan to have fun with my nieces, enjoy the sun, study and play chess, read, and relax. I hope you are feeling better each day, I am so relieved you are back. Jess |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Wilson> I thought <others> was strong, but I really loved <descent>. Will add <innocents> to my horror list, I have three to rent now. I just posted at your house. Thanks for all the tips!! Horror movies are mainly terrible, so it's very valuable to know in advance which ones are worth watching. Jessica Rabbit Energizer Bunny |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dak> so good to hear from you! I read your warm greeting in <Neils'> forum. School is tough and a pain in the ass, but worth doing and has its own rewards too. That's my opinion at least. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> Heh that was a pretty funny joke, as usual!! I wouldn't be surprised if our two combative lads were still asleep after spending 14 hours straight arguing. That has to be a record!!
Heh |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: May 30, 2007 <Canadian Fun Fact>! Canada has a Constitution, passed by Parliament in 1982. But Quebec did not sign it, nor do they have any intention of signing it. Strictly speaking, this means that <de jure> Quebec is not part of Canada!! It's a Fact! |
