 | | jessicafischerqueen: lol <IQ> tests don't prove a thing. I scored in the <0> percentile on the <Wexler Test>. The psychologist assured my parents that this result was quote "impossible" and told them I might be a "very special child." You know, like <Stephen King's Carrie>. Anybody up to be my <Prom Date>? I will begin screenng resumes as they come in.
I promise a <fiery date> at the least. Can't be bad. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Bill> Can't wait to hear your observations on psychology of chess. When I make my first move in a game, my adrenaline is through the roof. I love winning, hate losing.
I'm also unhinged.
Are these helpful qualities to a chessplayer?
Post a big honking long answer <Bill> if you have time/inclination, or as short as you like. Looking forward to hearing more from any of you guys on <chess psychology> |

| Jun-02-07 | | achieve: I'm up for it! Except I go for my early morning exercises now and briefly checked your place out.. It's Saturday here!

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Ok <Niels'> has his resume in to be my <Prom Date>. Remember, applicants are restricted to those who have either read <Carrie> or seen the movie. Don't want anyone to get a nasty surprise.
Hi <Niels>! There's a post for you here I guess on the other page now. Prediction: You will jump with your trusty <wiener dog> today. |
|

| Jun-02-07 | | achieve: <Jess> Check this out! (if you haven't done so already) Judit Polgar vs Bareev, 2007 (title at the top) CG's admins have hired a master at puns, giving titles to games like this.. |
|
| Jun-02-07 | | Eyal: <Jess> Speaking of daily <Chess Quotes>, I see that today's cg.com homepage quote of the day (on which branko also supplied his commentary) is right up your alley: <When you absolutely don't know what to do anymore, it is time to panic!!> Very educational.

 | | jessicafischerqueen: June 2, 2007 <Jess Quote> My name rhymes with "chess."
Get it? HAHAHAHAHA
ok here it is.
<Adolf Andersen> 1851: "The English player... sits straight as a poker on his chair, keeps his thumbs in his waistcoat pockets, and does not move until he for an hour has surveyed the chessboard. His opponent has sighed hundreds of times when the Englishman eventually moves his piece." LOL |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> yes of course I will send you <Bill's> fable, but I may not be able to do anything for two days cuz haffta finish my editing. | | jessicafischerqueen: Ooh <Mojo> has a new girlfriend?? SCORE!!!
Way to go <MojoXXX>!!! |
|
| Jun-02-07 | | Eyal: Re Anderssen quote: I believe he had specifically in mind Howard Staunton, who was notorious for thinking a lot at the board - even on his first moves (maybe that's how he came up with the English opening...); they didn't have chess clocks and time controls back then. |
|
| Jun-02-07 | | Eyal: <Canada is home to the mighty <Negev Desert>> Well, after moving the whole world to <Jessica time zone>, I suppose it's only natural that the next step would be to move all places to Canada. |
|
| Jun-02-07 | | achieve: <Way to go <MojoXXX>!!!> LOL!! I called him that too a while back and the funny thing is that he hasn't been reponding since then.. He's obviously really going at it lately..
Talk about "Rated" play!

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Eyal!> what on earth are you doing up at 3 in the morning!!! (remember, I now believe there is only one time zone-- mine). Is "belief" a condition or a choice?
I'm learning from <Pascal's Pet Badger>, thanks to you! Anyhoo, I got to sleep cuz I bin working instead of skylarking and watching horror etc. Although I did post for a bit and play one game of chess on the net today. Hope all your classes are going great, and I'm guessing you are VERY EXCITED about the ARMAGEDDON chess game six starting in one hour <JST>. Oh and I also watched all the interview video with <Kramnik> on chessbase. He comes across as very logical, honest, and level headed. Even though technically he contradicted himself.
I like our World Champion.
He's cool.
Jess the contrary solipsistic narcasisstant to the stars. |

| Jun-02-07 | | Eyal: <Jess> (or <samikd>): I'm curious - what was the evaluation of the position in your second game, in <samikd>'s engine analysis, in case of 13...Kg7 (instead of Be6)? (Btw, moves 8-18 of this game appear in your profile as 6-16) |
|
| Jun-02-07 | | Dr.Lecter: Have fun at your prom with <achieve>! I'm hating this. I'm getting rejected by all girls that I like, and you guys seem to be having fun. sigh
It's okay. I'll get over it.
Besides, if I never get married, it'll be my mom who'll be unfortunate.
:P Kidding, I would never do that do my parents. |

| Jun-02-07 | | WBP: <Jess> I've been thinking a lot on this psychological thing. Part One:
First of all, although I am pretty much indifferent to losing, I, too, am a basket case when I begin a game (and continue being so during the game as well). I've often found this quite detrimental to my play, particularly late in the game, and I wish I could control it more. I was playing a very complicated 10-minute game the other day, and I found that I literally couldn't see the pieces on the board, so nervous was I. I think it's great that you get so psyched up (and hate losing), but consider: adrenaline and thinking don't really go together, the former having evolved for a purpose pretty much antithetical to passive thought. (Ah, a duality: will vs. thought/ intellect; and a Schopenhauerian one at that! But never mind.) I'm sure that nerves and adrenaline are a huge part of every player's chesslife (I remember reading of Spassky chain-smoking before his epic battle with Fischer at Siegen in 1970--and of course he won that game), but some manage it better than others. I'm willing to bet that Botvinnik, who strikes me as one who had his nerves pretty much under control, made fewer overall blunders in his careeer than most other great players. Your stories of players telling you to hurry up are frankly disgusting. Etiquette is no doubt something most chess players should brush up on. I guess that some of this stems from the nature of the game itself, which is obviously a battle. (Part Two to follow) |
|
| Jun-02-07 | | WBP: Part Two:
I don't know if these rude comments to you by other players are a result of the combative aspect of chess, or are due to the newfound levels of incivility and hostility (one hears so much about) that seem to have sprung up on chat rooms throughout the Internet, or some combination of both. (Good example: remember that guy--the self-proclaimed US Junior Champion of 196-whatever--who kept intruding when the crew was playing the computer on Yahoo several Saturdays ago? Despite several appeals to him to hold his tongue, he couldn't resist. Gas him!) I love your way of dealing with it--scrolling the page in such a fashion as to make the remarks box not visible. Because you're right: these things do distract. But live chess has always had its trash talk as well. I recall how tense chess tournaments were (when I played in them) right before the first round--everyone sizing one another up, playing blitz while nervously maintaining a bellicose chatter. Curiously, by the time the last round arrived--when things should have been the most tense (prizes and places to be determined), things seemed calmest. Anyway, odd thoughts from a fuzzy thinker.
Chess and Psychology: remember Fischer's line to the effect that his favorite moment in a game is when he sees the other player's ego crushed. Now that's psychology! |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <positional> Happy Birthday mate!! Is your school finished? You still super busy?
I hope you will be able to watch <Mexico>. I will be there since my school/editing job will be over then and I won't have to get up at 4 in the morning. |
