jessicafischerqueen: <Tactic> download <baba>, you won't regret it. Plus you can customize the board in a number of styles and make it as big or small as you like. And you can also use it to play games on FICS as well.

Ok, back from <baba> and I wasn't kidding about plan 3- a dual wing assault.

So I looked hard at <a3>, <a4>, <Kb1>, and <Na6> (strange but flexible).

I also have looked at <e3>, <f3>, and <Ne7>.

But I see no immediate reason, after all this, to give up my <h pawn> just yet. Your control of the <g> file is making your <Kh8> look good now, I think I made a mistake there a few moves back.

So, I launch Plan 4 with <23.Rh1>. Looks passive, but I have a secret "idea."

I move <23.Rh1>.

Jun-15-07  Tactic101: You want to advance your pawn to h6, right? I'll stop that and fix another target to attack. I have many ideas in this position, but I can't choose which. h6 will be my move. My knight is trapped, but it's attacking your f6 pawn, immobilizing your rook. Crazy style!
Jun-15-07  Ragh: <jess> When are you starting the next simul in your forum. Are the opponents decided yet, if not what is the minimum rating criteria to pass the evaluation. Looking at all the fence above makes me wonder how good can I be at correspondence play.

jessicafischerqueen: <tactic> good lord man you are Blitzing and my other three opponents are nowhere to be seen!

I just got back from <baba board> looking at the many, many Candidate moves for Black including <h6>. I wouldn't have chosen that one, so I'm relieved. I think you had other moves that would cause me more long term structural problems.

then again, what do I know?

jessicafischerqueen: <Ragh> didn't we already make a date to play on <gameknot>?

I can play 4 at a time in my forum, but on <gameknot> you have to make the deadlines, it's more of a committment.

<MannBee> gets the next spot, He wants to play on <gameknot>, which I've never tried before.

I believe you are next in line, and you can choose <gameknot> or my <forum>. I prefer my <forum>, since we can "trash talk" and I also let opponents take back moves occasionally. They are informal workshopping "friendly" kinds of games, and <Dom> and <Eyal> very kindly do analysis post game for the benefit of me and my opponents. However, either way.

I have zero criteria for opponents except one-- they must be friendly people. You qualify. Oh wait there's another one. I'm ducking <Bill> and <Shropshire> cuz I'm afraid to play them. <Shrop> slaughtered me twice in my first two Correspondence games I ever played. He's a monster in Correspondence.

BTW, I have won every game against lower rated players and against higher rated opposition I have lost every time except one win against <samikd> and a draw against <wilson>.

Ratings matter!!

Mine is approximately 1650 at the moment, <Yahoo rating>. I haven't played enough games on FICS to get a rating yet, I'm one win one loss there. I find the site confusing. In fact, in the game I won, I didn't even realize he had resigned for about ten minutes.

What is your approximate rating? I think <Yahoo> ratings are inflated, maybe even 100 points or more. So in "real ratings" I'm probably a 1500 Class "C" player.

jessicafischerqueen: <Tactic> <h6> is a useful prophylactic for you, but it allows me to play the pawn-break <e4> (which has long been part of both Plans B and C), now rather than later, and offers me the opportunity to activate my Knight to the center, potentially.

At any rate, I now take the initiative back a pawn up, unless I've missed something dreadful.

I play <24.e4>

Prove me wrong!

jessicafischerqueen: Nice!! Are you playing in your forum, by email, or on <gamknot>?

I wouldn't know an <exchange variation> from a <pink elephant>, btw.

I only have a four opening repetoire. In Correspondence, I generally pick my opening moves from the <Opening Explorer>.

Jun-15-07  Open Defence: gameknot.... openings are over rated.. the only theory worth knowing is end game theory ...

jessicafischerqueen: That's what all the books I read said too.

When I started studying chess seriously for the first time in my life, just about a year ago, everything I read said the same thing.

Study endgame first and most, study tactics problems, pick two openings for White and two for Black and do your best, playing players at least 50 points higher than you.

I'm going to try <gameknot> for the first time against <MannBee> soon.

jessicafischerqueen: When I play on Yahoo, I play <Scotch> when allowed with <e4>, and <QG>.

With black, I play <c5> against <e4> and <d5> against <d4>.

If I'm prevented from playing these four, I have to "wing it."

But I ALWAYS avoid Spanish Game.

My favorite thing about Ruy Lopez is you never, ever, have to play it if you don't want, Black or White.

heh.

Jun-15-07  Open Defence: hehehe i love the Ruy....

Heh.

PS can I call you <Deffi> like the guys do? I was going to try <OD> but it didn't look right.

Awaiting permission.

Jun-15-07  achieve: Nice <wiener dog> cartoon -- I like cartoons ;-)
Jun-15-07  Tactic101: Damn! My position is now going down under. So be it. I can't really let you play e5, so I'll take the pawn and be risky. I see nothing better. dxe4. Hanging around still. Let me see you raise the knife.
Jun-15-07  Tactic101: Actually, things don't look SO bad. But they still are not in my favour. A draw would a favourable outcome.
Jun-16-07  Ragh: <Jess> Cool, then please give me a holler when a simul slot opens up here. Thanks for your detailed explanation of the existing criteria. I can't compete with you in writing long posts but would look forward to the chess battle.

I don't have any OTB tournament rating yet, but my Yahoo rating has been in 1600's like an year ago, since I play on playchess (1600+) these days.

Playing chess here is fine with me since I like some trash talk too. But I don't know how 'trash talking' works in chess and especially how to make an optimal use of it to gain advantage. On the contrary, you seem to have gained a lot of expertise in that area thru the games above ;) Neways, am ready to jump in the correspon<dance> bandwagon.

I am considering prem membership as soon as I reach a milestone of 1000 posts here ;) Seriously, my only concern was the time I would be spending on the chess study with all those candy-like features it brings with it. But actually, now I am actively considering to have it to be able to watch the live games (from Dortmund and esp. Mexico) at work ;).

Jun-16-07  Open Defence: <PS can I call you <Deffi> like the guys do? I was going to try <OD> but it didn't look right.> anything is fine as long as I know its me you're kibbitzing to... ;-p
Jun-16-07  Tactic101: I've analysed the position once more. Actually, it does look like I may have some good active play.
Jun-16-07  whiteshark: This forum was awhile all right. But now it's over and I can't see the forum operator's postings anymore. Saying goodbye, forever, is made quite simple here at cg.com.
