jessicafischerqueen: Your over there regimen sounds salubrious! Interestingly, in Canada we save time by spelling "music and poker" as "moker." Initially we spelled it "poomus" but that sounded a little too declasse, even for us...

jessicafischerqueen: I hope you win, so long as he goes down against <Motylev>.

OK see you in "the same room" Saturday at 2 pm "Normal Time."

Jul-27-07  achieve: <Jess> Nice sidestep to the <topalov> page.. LMAO <petrol amnesiac> must have done it! hehe

I say GOOO! <slomarko>.. Funny guy, really..

  jessicafischerqueen: Yes, I'm a <slomarko> fan myself...

I've been reading articles from the <Krabbe> website and he really is a marvellous chess writer.

I wish I understood <Dutch> so I could read all the articles.

Jul-27-07  achieve: He is very good.. Reading them in Dutch is a treat of course.. I have a book on the K-K match 1985 with <introductory short stories by <Jan Mulder>> ( annotations Hans Bohm) and they are unsurpassed.. I once tried to translate one to English ( for you guys here) but fell WAY short to get the hilarious style and use of special words across -- I think a pro translater would have, too..

jessicafischerqueen: DAng it why is this volume not translated into English?

Do people not realize how important <the Netherlands> has been to chess and chess history?

I heard even the farm animals play chess in <Holland>.

Jul-27-07  achieve: <I heard even the farm animals play chess in <Holland>>. Mean politicians here disguise them selves as sheep -- but I am convinced they are not smart enough to play chess.

Dutch sponsoring of tournaments has been in the top league for over 50 years.

Jul-27-07  achieve: <Jess>! I found a true story by <Krabbé> called:

<Walking with Kasparov>

A priceless insight in the great man (Garry) just after a loss against Piket in the 1995 last round of the <VSB- Tournament> with Kasparov eventually taking Krabbe to his suite and opening his personal Notebook.. To look for a forgotten line he had analysed 8! years earlier for his match against Karpov..

jessicafischerqueen: Heh I read <walking with Kasparov> tonight before you posted.

JINX you owe me a wiener dog now.

I got the <Krabbe Kuriosites> page on "favorites" now.

I just finished his hilarious piece on <ICC>.

I'm too excited to sleep!!!

Jul-27-07  achieve: I owe you nothing! Jess!

Just kidding.. (easy now.. be a good boy..)

Actually I was considering <translating> the whole thing but it seems you have the <English Lyrics>??

Do you have a link? So I can compare? Purely out of curiosity of course -- and admiration possibly if it is done very well..

Jul-27-07  achieve: <I'm too excited to sleep!!!> Perhaps a new mortal enemy arrived at the scene..

I take it you are well asleep by now, secretly constructing a strategy to unsettle <UN>square Dance..

Do you know that <Dave Brubeck> song? It really is called "unsquare Dance" and it might be that Paul Desmond wrote it.. But I'd have to use Google to make sure. No option..

Jul-27-07  YouRang: I left you a response in JoeWms chessforum regarding your trivia question concerning the <Earl of Sandwich> and <Canadian History>.

Possibly, it will keep me in contention for your <Mortal Enemy> position.

Jul-27-07  Eyal: <I just pounded 500 bucks down on <Motylev> to beat <Carlsen>.>

No luck... Motylev vs Carlsen, 2007 - he had a won game, but instead of clinching it with 35.Qg6 (or earlier with the pretty 33.Rxe4!) he played 35.Bd6??, one of the leading candidates for the "blunder of the year" title.

jessicafischerqueen: <YouRang> That's one of the funniest accounts of <Canadian History> I ever read in my life.

Heh. You get a robust partial credit for your answer, but the <real answer> (and there is one, though who might actually care about it is beyond me), has yet to be found.

The prize is all of my <chessbucks>

Which are about <ten> since I just dropped 500 on <Motty>.

Jul-27-07  YouRang: I bet it's a trick question: the <real answer> probably has nothing to do with sandwiches!
Jul-27-07
Premium Chessgames Member
jessicafischerqueen: Well, you are correct about that. It's not a <trick question> though.

The way to find out is to know the <Earl of Sandwich's> real name.

And then know his connection to <Canadian history>.

The story itself is actually kind of entertaining. The <Earl> was a rather remarkable fellow.

Jul-27-07  Eyal: The 4th Earl of Sandwich (1718–1792) was called John Montagu, and there's a John Montagu who lived in about the same time (1719–1795) and was a governor of Newfoundland - but they're not the same person. Or is this just a weird coincidence unrelated to your question?
Jul-27-07  Ragh: <Eyal> You found the answer by googling on this <sand witch> guy? I thought googling was against the "rule".
Jul-27-07  Ragh: Hey, those html links disappeared :)
Jul-27-07  Eyal: I don't know if I DID find the answer...

Anyway, here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_M...

Jul-27-07

  jessicafischerqueen: No points for <Eyal>!

No <Googling> allowed. Plus, it's not the correct answer yet.

This particular answer is "google resistant".

Heh

Jul-27-07  Ragh: I think I know the answer. Probably, this Ear of sand witch guy was the only Canadian male to have the distiction of being convicted of witchcraft and for subsequently getting executed during the infamous Salem witch trials.

jessicafischerqueen: Very close <Rah!> except for not being anywhere close to getting the answer.

Partial credit!!

Jul-27-07  YouRang: <Ragh> Since you're obviously familiar with the subject, you may be interested to know that the <wicked witch of the west> was most probably a sand witch, which accounts for her falling apart when splashed with water.

As for <jessicafischerqueen>'s trivia question: I think if we all work together, we can scrape up enough partial credits to get a whole credit!

Jul-27-07
Premium Chessgames Member
jessicafischerqueen: <You> get more partial credit for suggesting the "Partial Credit" solution.

Which is similar to <Doyle's> the <7 % Solution> except for the <not being about cocaine part>.

Jul-27-07  Ragh: <Jess> I see that you are scaring the hell out of people at Topalov's page. Sort of like a CG-cop restoring the order, perhaps.
