  jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <Nako>!!

ONE VOTE <Al Pacino>

Now, "purists" may consider this as another vote for leading nominee <The Godfather>, since <Boomie> already voted for <Pacino> playing <Don Michael Corleone>.

However, NOT SO!

Scent of a Woman was specified so that's only ONE vote for Al.

Interestingly, however, <Pacino>

enjoys both firearms and "keeping his hoes in line" (especially in <Scent of a Woman>)

This appears to be a strong trend among 20th century men.

Have things changed in the 21st century?

Floor is open for discussion...

Jan-27-08  achieve: Hi <jfq>!!

Lars has just made it clear by a woof woof, that he'd also like to vote for <Al Pacino> -- both for that unforgettable dance in the restaurant, the Ferrari ride AND the monologue for <Charly> at the <Baird School for Seegoing Snitches> ( All from <Scent of A Woman> )

Sammy Davis Jr. must come in a close second, I was just informed...

  jessicafischerqueen: Ok now that's

TWO VOTES for <Al Pacino>...

Jan-27-08  brankat: Just checked the votes above. Is there a stipulation that the "coolest" one has to be from Hollywood? I certainly hope not. I haven't seen anything "cool" out there yet.

I'd say: Sir Winston Churchill.

Jan-27-08  Boomie: Top Coolie Man

City Cool

James "Your tearing me apart" Dean

Country Cool

Jimmy "Pure pork sausage" Dean

Jan-27-08  Boomie: All Time Cooler

Mohandas K. Ghandi

Any guy who can wear diapers in public has gotta be supremely confident. Plus Ghandi trumps Churchill. So there, Kitty!

Jan-27-08  Open Defence: <<Hugh Jackman>, whoever he is???>

  jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi>

Well originally it was supposed to be a decision between <Elvis> and <James Brown>, since I was grooving all night to them, thinking they are the most charismatic singers ever.

Then, predictably, CG.com members refused to "follow orders" so the contest went "wide open."

Curiously, there STILL hasn't been a chess player nominated...

<Eyal's> vote:

<For the <COOLEST MAN OF THE 20th CENTURY> I vote Kafka, naturally.

Jan-27-08  Open Defence: <Mohandas K. Ghandi> I believe it's Gandhi :) in India he would be addressed as Ghandhiji or Bapuji as a mark of respect :)
Jan-27-08  Boomie: <OD> I've been afflicted with a typo tic of late. Another nickname is Mahatma, of course, for great soul. Bapu mean Father. Ji, of course, mean cool. So Bapuji means Cool Daddy-O.
Jan-27-08  Open Defence: yup Daddy Cool
Jan-27-08  Boomie: <JessArooo> For best R and R singer I would vote for either Joe Cocker or Janis Joplin but I like my R and R rough. For soul I prefer Aretha Franklin. Of course none of those could move worth a darn but they sure could sing.
Jan-27-08  mack: <Curiously, there STILL hasn't been a chess player nominated...>

Maybe coolest chess player of the 20th century could come next. Bryon Nickoloff and Lawrence Day would be up there.

Jan-27-08  Eyal: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...
Jan-27-08  mack: I think I honestly have to go for R.A. Zimmerman as the 20th century's coolest person - a man who remains the epitome of all things buzzing & immemorial despite going through an ultra-daggy two decades or so. Also-rans: John Peel, Debbie Harry, Brendan Behan, Major Clem.
Jan-27-08  NakoSonorense: I nominated <Al Pacino> only because I saw the trend the nominating Hollywood-created characters: the Godfather, Murphy, etc.

But, in real life, few have had such a high C.Q. (Coolness Quotient) as the great and only <Edson Arantes do Nascimento>, a.k.a. PELE.

Here are some of this 'coolness achievements':

-Best football/soccer player in the world. Period.
-Athlete of the Century.
-National Hero in what in may well be the Coolest country in the world, Brazil. -Role model for the youth in the whole world.
-UN ambasador ofr environment.
-UNESCO Goodwill ambassador.
-Has appeared in movies, documentaries, etc.
-A writer.
-Philanthropist.
-Dated XUXA.
-etc.

Jan-27-08  Open Defence: <Edson Arantes do Nascimento> true true....

but then..... <Salvador Dali>

Jan-27-08  chessmoron: Johnny Carson

Domdaniel: <Jess> I've disqualified myself (again) for time spent outside the 20th century as a tax exile. Next choice would be Scott Walker, but he's a self-confessed <30 Century Man>.

That leaves Marcel Duchamp, obviously.

Domdaniel: Cheeta the Chimpanzee (various Tarzan movies) and William S Burroughs (Naked Lunch, etc) *both* enjoyed second careers as abstract painters. This is undeniably cool.

So I now vote for Burroughs as coolest human male, and Cheeta as coolest nonhuman primate male.

Coolest female male is Dylan, yet again, as played by wotsername.

Domdaniel: <Gandhi> ... from an Irish Quiz Show:

Q. What was Gandhi's first name?

A. Ehh, was it 'Goosey Goosey'?

Stonehenge: The coolest person of the 20th century, let's see...

Adolf Hitler?...mm, no.
Attila the Hun?...mm, no.
Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern -schplenden -schlitter -crasscrenbon -fried -digger -dangle -dungle -burstein -von -knacker -thrasher -apple -banger -horowitz -ticolensic -grander -knotty -spelltinkle -grandlich -grumblemeyer -spelterwasser -kürstlich -himbleeisen -bahnwagen -gutenabend -bitte -eine -nürnburger -bratwustle -gerspurten -mit -zweimache -luber -hundsfut -gumberaber -shönendanker -kalbsfleisch -mittler -raucher von Hautkopft of Ulm?...mm, yes!!!

But if long names aren't allowed I'll vote for David Gilmour (Pink Floyd).

Jan-27-08  Open Defence: you gotta envy <achieve> he should have been at the games today.. he would have seen Anand's Kb1 LIVE!
