| Jan-28-08 | | technical draw: This forum is too cool for me, but since I was mentioned by name I must address the Issue. Is this the battle of the bulge you're talking about? That's no big deal I used to do it with a rolled up sock. As for songs about transvestites, Lola is a pretty good song (better than junk about heroin). So have a nice day, everything is groovy. |

| Jan-29-08 | | Boomie: What ever happened to Elvis? Did Sonny Barger take him for a ride on his Harley? Is he sleeping with the fishes? Is he in the building? Inquiring minds want more sugar. Nice job, JessArooo. Now go out in search of a life. You've earned it. |

| Jan-29-08 | | Larsker: <technical draw> <Lola is a pretty good song (better than junk about heroin)>. For my money, <The Stranglers> could sing la-la-la-la all the way through (or lo-la-lo-la as it were) and it wouldn't change a thing. I think the difference is that you emphasize the text which you find funny. I hardly notice the text. Music can't be discussed. I'd say <Goldie Brown> is a <coup de génie> You say it's junk. And the discussion ends right there. |

| Jan-29-08 | | Ziggurat: I knew you would like my friend A-Pal! (I dare not write out some other possible nicknames for fear of the cg.com censors.) |
|
| Jan-29-08 | | technical draw: <Larsker> We're still friends, right? I miss the Pink Panther. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Stonehenge> "It's just time, is all, just time ..." as Burroughs wrote during a rare moment of lucidity. I had one myself once. Anyways, they say the first millennium is the hardest. |

| Jan-29-08 | | Boomie: <see he wears a Turban.. he is Indian> Settlers: Form the wagons into a circle!
Indians: Why do you always do that?
Settlers: We get better reception that way. |
|
| Jan-29-08 | | Larsker: Correction:
As texts go, I no longer prefer <la-la-la-la> or <lo-la-lo-la> but <la-da-dee-la-di-da> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaIG... |
|
| Jan-29-08 | | Larsker: <technical draw> Ninguna problema. You know, I actually like The Kinks - my favourite album being <Sleepwalker> (plus a bunch of the old hits): http://www.amazon.com/Sleepwalker-K... |

| Jan-29-08 | | WBP: <Jess> Loved your countdown! But <Dom> only number two? Who is this Dylan guy, anyway? Didn't he write <Portrait of the Artist as a Young Frog>, spawning many imitators? |

Maybe if He'll play the Sicilian it would be difficult... but no, I'll play Bc4 and I'm better, so what can He do? Unless He would use tricks, like clouding your mind..."> |

| Jan-30-08 | | technical draw: <Larsker> Thanks for that link. I always thought that "You really got me" was by the Rolling Stones, or was that a cover by the Kinks? |
|
| Jan-30-08 | | Larsker: <You really got me> Yes, good one. Or what about this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvDo...
Ray Davies sure could write catchy tunes.
And it's made well before someone invented the drum machine. They couldn't let an idiotic rhythm go on and on - they had to write real melodies. |
|
| Jan-30-08 | | technical draw: <Larsker> You're right that's a good song. I'm finally getting an appreciation for The Kinks. But I can't believe we actually wore clothes and our hair like that! |
|
| Jan-30-08 | | Larsker: I believe it's possible to make a musicological distinction: <Before> and <after> the drum machine. For some bands, you can clearly hear the difference. <Genesis> started using it on the album <Duke> - and their music became more monotonous and predictable. |
|
| Jan-30-08 | | Open Defence: <Larkser> we have got into a nice topic here.. Duke was one of my fav albums.. AND so was "Invisible Touch" hehehehe I know the Peter Gabriel fans are going to shoot me.. I also believe that the drum machine (or what sounds like a drum machine) added a certain touch to Prince's "When Doves Cry" |
|
| Jan-30-08 | | Larsker: Many regard the 1980's as the worst decennium for pop music - exactly because all these Japanese produced synthesizers and musical gadgets came about and was used pretty indiscrimately. I personally liked the 80's but to a large degree stopped following new stuff somewhere in the 90's. It's too much Britney and too little britpop for my liking nowadays. Maybe that qualifies me as an old fart. |
|
| Jan-30-08 | | Larsker: Maybe you can say the difference between a drum machine and a flesh-and-blood drummer is like Rybka compared to Anand. Yes, Rybka is more precise - but it's much more fun to watch/listen to real people. The more I listen to music, the more I prefer the real thing. Imperfection isn't bad but monotony is. |
