 | | jessicafischerqueen: Why <synthesizers> are super great when they have <super instruments> and <super singing> and <super great lyrics> on top of them all mixed together perfectly. I'ts a <New Order> I tells you... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xezm... |

| Jan-31-08 | | Larsker: <Who knew you would be so crabby about pop music?> I do listen to <some> of the new stuff. I'm just saying - in my own words - that quite often I prefer listen to old stuff instead. And we haven't even started discussing other kinds of music yet - jazz, classical, etc. See - now I got stuck on Youtube.
Is this happy music - or is it happy music?

| Jan-31-08 | | Open Defence: dude these days 80s music is considered old... |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | Larsker: What went wrong is the americanization or McDonaldization of pop music. Britney's breasts became more important than the melodies. 80's is old - compared to what? Much of the current music is old before it hits the Ipod. |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | Open Defence: <80's is old - compared to what?> exactly dude if we ignore the marketing then the art shines through, the marketing has always been there... Pat Boone was required to sell Chuck Berry's music etc that won't go away... |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | Larsker: <Open Defence: dude these days 80s music is considered old...> Just one piece of advice: Don't start listening to classical. Believe me, some of that stuff was written in the 18th century. Gasp. How out of fashion can some things be? |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | Open Defence: <Larsker> as a matter of fact I enjoy classical music |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: New is Old too.
<American Roots Country Music>, <Jazz>, and <Blues> and <Rock> lyrics are pretty much 100% about <Keepin' you hoe in line> and <enjoying firearms>. Which is precisely the main subject matter of all "modern" <Rap Hip Hop> lyrics. I maintain this is the defining thread of ALL American pop music lyrics. That's why the contestants for COOLEST MAN OF THE 20th CENTURY all got <extra points> for enjoying <firearms and keepin' they hoes in line>. |

"Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand?" Hmmm... yes. Where is he going? |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | Larsker: <Open Defence: dude these days 80s music is considered old...> Age doesn't really matter in music - so go dude yourself. |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | achieve: (a) All pop musicians who can play decent in front of a knowledgeable crowd have all had classical training (b) Quality is timeless
(c) Personal tastes differ (in quality) heh
(d) I am more on Lasker's side, in case there IS a side (e) I need to go now |

| Jan-31-08 | | Open Defence: <Age doesn't really matter in music - so go dude yourself.?> what's this supposed to mean ?? you don't really get what I have been trying to say have you ? |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | achieve: re (d)
<Open Defence> I wrote that without knowing the "dude yourself" post I think it is a miscummunication as Europeans may consider the word <dude>, rude sometimes... |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | Open Defence: aah well time to be a bit multi cultural then... |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | achieve: Wikipedia
-- "Originally "dude" meant a city person in the country, with strong connotations of ignorance of rural ways. The word as used in contemporary culture, typically American, may have had its origins in the Irish [4], and indeed, dúd in modern Irish is a deragotory term for a foolish person [5]. The word is also found in German where "Dude" is dialect for ‘fool’ [6]." --- I "know" the word has gotten different connotations over the last 10-15 years- but wasn't aware of that until seeing it being used at CG quite often. |

 | | Domdaniel: <dude these days 80s music is considered old...> Sigh. I just spent several days writing a *profound* 1500-word piece on how the 70s/80s (once 'the decades that style forgot' etc) have receded so far that they've lost the power to embarrass us ... and are now just temporal signifiers like an 1890s Oscar Wilde drawing room ... waffle, waffle ... ... and then <Deffi> expresses the same idea in ... one, two, three ... in *eight* words. Argh. Cultural commentary? I resign. |
|
Jan-31-08
 | | Domdaniel: <modern Irish> "Dude" is cool. Just don't say "Dudeen", is my advice. It means 'a small pipe'. Certain connotations inevitably follow. Oh, I forgot, I'm done connotatin' ... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: In <Southpark>, the expression: <DUDE!>
Means <Holy cow I can't believe you are saying/doing that!>. |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | Open Defence: well I have already said whatever I have to say.. if he wants to take offence over something innocent I can't change that |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi> he's just a <crabapple>. You, on the other hand, are a <priceless Blue Apple>. Plus whenever you make a post, there is a menacing <kill msg> sign (also in blue) underneath. I've always found this to be quite exciting, as a <Godfather> and <Greek Mythology> fan. Don't kill the messenger!
On the other hand, <sometimes even Santa Claus gotta get whacked> |
