| Feb-01-08 | | Boomie: "keeping shoes in line" at first I read "creeping shoes in line" with the chilling image of disembodied feet. I can live with hoes in line because I like a tidy garden shed. |

| Feb-01-08 | | Boomie: Although the honeymoon is over
one can hope we've learned a lesson.
Now grows thorns where once was clover.
She left me for a Smith and Wesson.
Though the landscape is eroded,
man she sure was locked and loaded.

Feb-02-08
 | | Domdaniel: It's like a fairytale ... or a pantomime ... the prince gives a tulip to the princess and suggests a nice game of chess ... but the wicked baron (in make-up) is watching from his secret peep-hole ... oh no he isn't ... and she takes a bite from the apple ... blunders ... and they all get killed by the Indians. Something like that, anyhow. |

| Feb-02-08 | | bloodnok: Like you,Jess, I was an admirer of the late, great R.J. Fischer. Like the great man, I was given my first chess set by my older sister. He was about a month younger than me. The resemblance ends there. He was becoming a GM while I was playing my first game!
A few articles and Fischer-relayed stuff at this link http://sport.guardian.co.uk/chess
If your not already aware of it, this newspaper has a good chess section.
Cheers!

| Feb-03-08 | | Boomie: The skies cleared to reveal Sirius, the winking eye of the Big Dog, faithfully following his Don and Master, Orion, The Dogbother, who holds in his left hand by the throat a hapless schmo, late on his vig payment, and in his angry red right fist, the shillelagh of retribution. |

 | | Domdaniel: <The shillelagh of retribution> Nah, that's his *sidereal organ*. It gets cold out there in the great spaces between the void and the other void. 'Ere, I think this is MMMMMMMM. I'm in the 8K club ... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: I'd just like to thank all of my friends for subjecting my <liking firearms and keepin they hoes in line> thesis to a <RIGOROUS> scholarly investigation. I suspected I was on to something, but <Deffi's> GUNS N' FASHION page was really indicative. Of what, I couldn't say.
Pretty funny though.
AS a woman who just had her legs waxed twice in the last two weeks (It's comforting), I'd just like to say that in terms of fashion, I prefer the "CLASSICS." IE: The WWII (the big one) German 88 mm long-barelled anti-tank/anti-aircraft gun. They played Hell on <Monty's> troops when the Krauts had a battery of them up on <Alem Halfaya> Ridge. Apologies to non-WWII (the big one) buffs, but here's a pic. VERY SEXY.. http://home.pacific.net.sg/~ymcham/... |

 | | Domdaniel: <Talk to me Capablanca!>
On resigning the world championship:
"J'abandonne la partie ... vous etes donc le champion du monde ... mes compliments a Mme Alekhine ..." And none of yer Bobby nonsense about still being champion 87 years later. That's class, Capa-style. |
|
| Feb-04-08 | | brankat: <Dom> That'd be more like 81 years ;-) For the last game of the 1935 match with M.Euwe, A.Alekhine, expecting to lose the title, used his best attire. Black suit, a splendid white shirt and a bow tie. While walking through the crowd to approach the stage he was asked by a spectator about it. "This is to honour Dr.Euwe" was the reply. In the end, after signing the Draw, although hurting tremendously. Alekhine did gather strength to exclaim: "Hooraah for the New World Champion! Long live Dutch chess players!" |
|

 | | Domdaniel: <Brankat> I wondered if anyone would do the sums. Actually, I didn't intend to refer to the years from 1927 to now ... just a random large number alluding vaguely to Fischer's tenure of the world championship. I know, I know. 36 years, right?
I shoulda stuck to my original thought and said "137 years". There is *always* room at the inn for confusion. This inn, anyway ... |
