 | | Domdaniel: Vladi Mikenas had a nice story - I saw it in a magazine - about his win against Alekhine at Kemeri, when Alekhine was 'in training' to regain 'his' championship from Dr Euwe. He drank coffee (at one point he mistook a white pawn for a sugar cube, with predictably messy results) and milk. Strictly no booze. That's determination, I guess. |

Feb-10-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hi all!
I've been very busy the last week preparing for the new teaching semester. Imagine my surprise to arrive at work today, armed with an entire new freaking curriculum and lesson plans galore, full of new ideas, to be told that I IN FACT DON'T HAVE TO TEACH ANY CLASSES FOR THREE WEEKS. But I do have to sit here in the office for three weeks "working." Luckily, as I've previously posted, at least half of Korean teachers' "office time" is spent face down on a pillow snoring. God bless Korea.
Well I suppose it's time to write that novel, or perhaps a text book or three. Or I could even "gasp" try to learn more korean than telling a taxi driver ANNIYO! ANNIYO!! YOGI, YOGI...
"Chogi?"
ANNIYO! YOGI!!
Heh. Bi on da. It's raining.
|
|
| Feb-10-08 | | Eyal: Hi Jess - how about using those three weeks to write a few chapters of <Lev Itate>'s adventures? Hmm - disregard most of the EMU I've sent you today, except for the Fischer link... |
|
Feb-10-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Too late!! Another wonderful EMBU from you-- and thanks for the Fischer stuff and keep it coming. I actually read and saw the Cavity material before work- had me weeping... Then it was OFF TO THE NO WORK WORK OF KOREAN TEACHING.... Good grief this has to be the slackest "job" in the history of the world.... <Lev Itate>... I seem to have trouble getting past the first passage-- with the missing black bishop... I feel like <Kierkegaard> writing and re-writing the story of <Mount Moriah> over and over in <Fear and Loathing>, except for he was brilliant and famous and I'm just a po country girl. I expect I'll end up like <Dilsey>, only not Black, not a house servant, not in the south, and not a fictional character. Mainly, I believe I will frequently yell YOU LUSTER when I get old. I think you should all go to Asia.
There are many, many Asian people here.
Really.

| Feb-10-08 | | valiant: HallÄ Jessicafischerqueen!
Many of my relatives are teachers and when I was a child, my father had 10 weeks paid vacation every summer, 3 around Christmas, 1 week in February (sports-holiday) and Holy Week. Sweden in the good old days...
