Feb-15-08  Red October: <jess> this is also <POLITBURO INTER STAFF SALUTION DAY> notice that the hearts are all Red ?

jessicafischerqueen: Yes, and I have to confess that after all these years it's still very disorientating to see <Red October> posting in <Open Defence> forum and vice versa.

the "power of the visual image" is so strong, biochemically, that I frequently "think", for a few seconds, that they are two separate people.

I notice the number of <politburo> decrees has been increasing.

As a close neighbor of <North Korea>, I'm forced to applaud!!

Not to mention obey....

Have a look at the youtube link I put there-- it's only a cupla minutes long but it explains my obsession with <World War II Valentine Day> celebrations...

Domdaniel: <Mrs Smoots> Your devout patriotism is appreciated in the higher echelons, and reports of your athletic work with the women's auxiliary have been passed to Downing St, where Winston enjoyed a good laugh between snifters.

But, I say, this business about 'the Hun' ... isn't it time you got over Attila? Yes, he *was* the Scourge of God, but dammit, woman, it's been 1600 years.

jessicafischerqueen: Heh.... I watched the whole episode tonight earlier on <free streaming video> I laughed my head off.

My Dad had two main interests (bordering on obsession): <World War Two History> and <Chess- Bobby Fischer>.

I'd spend hours listening to him on these topics, and predictably took them up as "hobbies" as well.

Which made me an ODDBALL at school, I can tell you.

"This is a bit like the Siege of Leningrad", I'd say to my mates during group detention.

Then they would scowl and chuck erasers at me.

But I lasted!! All 900 days of Elementary school...

Domdaniel: You can make a *nutritious soup* from erasers. Bet you had the last laugh on your classmates when they all starved to death...

jessicafischerqueen: heh thanks guys!! You are very good at cheering me up, specially on Holidays.

My childhood doesn't seem so strange to me now that I've found <CG.com> and you guys in particular.

Imagine a six year old girl- not sitting on her Dad's lap, but rather across from him puzzling over a chessboard---

And while he showed me the moves and I learned to play-- deciding which pawn to move-- He'd suddenly say--

"Did you know that during the <Siege of Leningrad> they ate the plaster out of the walls??"

I'd look up-- and think-- hmmmm.. I wonder what plaster tastes like?

I loved my Dad so much.

Sometimes when I'd periodically become obsessed with playing chess during my school "career' and fret about my Grades going down, and feel guilty, he'd say--

(quoting from the Bible, though he was no Christian)---

"Well, you play a good game of chess. Don't "hide your light under a bushel."

Domdaniel: <Jess> -- <"Well, you play a good game of chess. Don't "hide your light under a bushel.">

Well, you *do* play a good game of chess. And your light is many things, but sub-bushel isn't one of them.

You kinda brighten up our lives too, you know.

Feb-15-08  achieve: "When Jess' name appears on the forum board, my heart jumps up in excitement and anticipation." -- Quote from a kibitzer

Suppose he's not alone for a reason.

Generosity in abundance - "grace under pressure" & "proceed in style"

I'm looking forward to it.

And, <Jess>, you *are* also a great Chess player. Your Dad was right, of course.

Feb-15-08  euripides: <Jess> if you're short of people to play chess with in Korea, this profile might be interesting - they seem to make sensible comments:

jessicafischerqueen: Well I'm speechless-- in his third and final biography/epitaph on <Fischer>, <kingscrusher> mentions my Dad and his relationship with <Fischer> and the effect it had on me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhIK...

I'M IN TEARS AGAIN.....

Oh my goodness.

It was very emotional for me to hear him named "in real sound" by one of my favorite chess tutors.

I miss my Dad and I miss Bobby.

I can't help it.

Morphetta of the overemotional month.

Feb-16-08  achieve: Here's a strong looong HUG for you <Jess>!

Wish I could send Lars over... He is very consoling in nature...

I saw that vid earlier this week, and that remark by KC of you and your Dad immediately caught my ear.

Feb-16-08  Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: Happy <Victory in Europe Day>, BOOM YOURANG!!>

We certainly taught the Hun a lesson in 1918 and they hardly have bothered us since then. The boys are still fighting though 'cause they won't come back til it's over over there.

The Right Honorable Leftenant Southpaw-Bridgetoofar, Esq

Feb-16-08  Boomie: <JessArooo>

How's the Morphy study coming along? I'll bet you are enjoying the carnage. Don't forget to review Morphy's notes to the Louis Charles Mahe De La Bourdonnais match with Alexander McDonnell. (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...)

Morphy was a great admirer of Bourdonnais and with good reason, as always.

Feb-16-08  Eyal: Hi, Jess - I've just listened to the opening of KC's video and was almost in tears myself... very kind of him to do that.
Feb-16-08  Tactic101: <Jess> Hey! Weren't you supposed to have displaced User: acirce as the top kibitzer here by this time? Why the sudden slow down? :)
Feb-16-08  Open Defence: Ok the 80s ARE BACK!!!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnTr...

what is it about this song ???

the cheesy lyrics, platinum blonde hair ? track suit like costumes?

maybe it takes me back to my teen years ?

The song is so cheesy BUT I LOVE IT!!!

Heh!

Feb-16-08  achieve: I LOVE IT TOO !!

Most likely it is a "back to my teen years" thing -- very powerful emotion for 30 plussers - esp. guys and Kylie, I should add...

For a slight change of pace: Kylie Minogue and Kermit the Frog - Especially for You -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLPA... (Sung Live, great atmosphere in the audience, just very cute altogether)

PS. The composition is quite good - I already jammed a bit on it on my Piano -- think of one of Stevie Wonder's harmonica improvs...

Feb-16-08  achieve: Major Boyhood crush -- 'I Should Be So Lucky' -- Kylie (she was sooo, ehh... gorgeous) --http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5a7E...
Feb-16-08  achieve: Last one-- hope Jess likes the non-pretentious music too...

Rick Astley - Whenever you need somebody -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onrz...

From the Stock, Aitken & Waterman team, but I danced my bum off back then... I love it!! Seems all so innocent now but the girl is very cute!

(Tremendous amount of comments with this clip btw...)

  jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi n' Niels>!!

Thanks so much for that <mini 80s concert>!!

If you don't like <Rick and Kylie>, and all them flashy clothes, it means you are crabby.

heh.

<Rick> has such a deep, deep voice for a guy who stands just over 4 feet tall.

<Fun fact>: <Rick Astley> used to wear "elevator shoes" in concert that made him look a full two feet taller.

<Fun fact 2>: Paul Newman, also a dwarf, had a clause in his contract that all his co-stars had to act in two foot deep trenches so people wouldn't know he was so short.

It's a fact!!!

OK here's my addition to the <Mini-80s> concert.

Yes, predictably, it's <Joy Division> again, with IMO the greatest and most accurate love song ever written.
