| Mar-08-08 | | Tactic101: <just a kid> A good game on your part. I'll just drop a few comments. 9...e5? was a terrible mistake on black's part. It weakens d5 and blocks the g7 bishop. Here, white could have taken immediate advantage over this strategical mistake by Bg5 or Nd4. I know nothing about the Sicilian, but I think that if white wants to attack, 0-0-0 would be better instead of 0-0. h4 would be much better if the white king is on the other side of the board. 10. g3 weakens the light squares around your king and Bg4 would have taken advantage of it. Also, 11. Bxe6 is not good as it effectively neutralises the mistake black made with e5. 11...fxe6 and now black no longer has the gaping hole on d5 and may play d5, breaking through. Black made some mistakes later though. 14...Nf7 is not as good as a6 (getting rid of the annoying b5 knight) From here, the tide swings your way. Kg2! is a star move, with the perfect intentions of doubling on the file. From here, you played the attack very well. (note that Rh6 should allow black to survive and Bxg5 is somewhat better than R6h5). Overall, a good game on your part. Jess would do a better job analysing the game as she know Sicilian ten times better than I do and is a better player than me. |

 | | Domdaniel: <A Pedant Writes> One is much amused by the chess battle between the Deity and the Evil One, as seen in Tactic's link. The news that the Caro-Kann was created in Hell comes as no surprise. But one sentence puzzled me ... <But the Almighty One was not easily daunted, for even a disease as virile as the Caro-Kann has a cure. > I think he means 'virulent'. |

A few words of advice about opening analysis. Use the Opening Explorer and follow your game to a key move. (The esay way to open the OE is through the Opening of the Day on the main page.) In this case I would stop at 3. Bb5 and look at the options for black. Which ones have had the most success? Although there are speed games mixed in with the long, you should get a good idea what the best lines are. Continue playing the game moves and chacking the lines. When the list is pared down to a handful of games, play them to see how masters treat the position. If you have a chess engine, you can check the moves after the opening. However this isn't important at your level. Playing sound opening moves should be your first priority. After all, what good is endgame technique if you always get squashed in the opening? Good luck! |

| Mar-08-08 | | Open Defence: <Jess> actually since you like to play the Scotch.. shouldn't you be the Scotswoman ? |

<Deffi>
Yes, I suppose you are correct. But, since the <Last Free Scottish Parliament Sat in 1704>, a "Scotswoman" actually IS an "Englishwoman." Though I suppose <Sean Connery> wouldn't see it that way. he's very handsome!!

| Mar-08-08 | | just a kid: <Tactic101>Note that before 29.R6h5 there is no dark-squared bishops on the board!Also how does Rh6 let black survive?The ways to guard the g6 pawn is g5(played in the game)And Kf7 which loses to Rh7!Good analysis though.Speaking of castling queenside I just played a game going 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 0-0 where I did castle queenside and sacrificed a rook for a Bishop and Pawn to win 5 moves later!No one shall dare to play the KID against me because that is my SECOND attacking game against it.That too I will post in my http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... chessforum. |

 | | Domdaniel: <A Pedant Returns> At the start of the <Godly Game> we learn that the clock is ticking. But later, increments are used. Is this possible? Does the all-powerful entity have a clock that can be analog or digital as required? And has anyone told Stephen Hawking? |

| Mar-08-08 | | Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: Good Evening. Very kind of you to give such on-point advice to young <just a kid>. I like the cut of his jib.
<Frankie, remember the old Roman Emperors?>> You have all the experts and masters in your pocket like so many nickels and dimes. Always enjoy helping the younguns just like you.
Scotswomen wear kilts too. At least when they are dancing. The thought of seeing you in a kilt has me chuckling even though I have no idea what you look like. The proliferation of Just a Red Open October Kid Defence causes some concern at the CDC. Give me the antidote. |

I found this young Dutch lad, posting video analysis on TouTube-- and I just HAD to share this guy... He has 13 vids uploaded and I ran into the "calculation practise"-vid by accident, but had such a good time with it (I was laughing my head off at one point because of his pronuciation and stuff... little details), anyway, very refreshing, spontaneous (15 yrs young)-- all in all just wonderful to see such a young kid going for it and making chess explanation vids!! (I think he's proud as hell) He's uploaded quite a bit these last 3 weeks and has had little feed back... I commented on one and will check out some more. His name: <AddictedToChess> (doesn't get any better than that eh?) http://www.youtube.com/user/Addicte... (I subscribed - ggheh) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Good Morning.
<Dr. Euwe> thanks for the tip to the "Dutch treat"! I will check that out today. I think that with the aid of a computer, or even just with the aid of enough time to make a thorough analysis of a chess point, a player of ANY PLAYING STRENGTH is capable of making a good instructional video. I believe this.
